4.5 stars! I enjoyed this welcome back to the Adam Binder series a lot!

We go back to what the heart of the series is, the relationship between Adam and his family (new and old). I do wish there was a little more recap from the last book, because I had a little difficulty remembering who some characters were, since it's been a while since the last one. This book starts the beginning of a new, greater threat and also shows the consequences of the fallout of the last one. I am intrigued by the new plot threads and can't wait until the next book. If you enjoyed this series, this book is a great continuation of the saga.

4.75* Storygraph Rating!

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for providing a free ARC for my uninfluenced review.

I enjoyed this book so much! I had not read any of the previous novels in this series by David R. Slayton but am certainly a fan now and will be going back to read the first 3 books and all future books in the series!

The book is fun and has just enough action vs romance and main character development. Adam Binder is a kind, smart, and brave main character who romance to Vic is icing on the cake. Great world building and plenty of mystery regarding what is to come.

Those who have loved Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden books will want to check this series out! Adam may very well give Harry a run for his money :).

I absolutely love this series and was super excited to get a sneak peek at the fourth installment. It’s been a bit since I’ve ready book 1-3 or Rogue Community College. It took me a moment to remember whos who, but once I got my footing, I flew through this book! The second half especially was so fast-paced I refused to put it down.
It was so satisfying to see Adam Binder finally in a good place. He’s got support, he’s in therapy, and he’s building a real future with Vic. Their relationship is so sweet! They are both so grounded and trying so hard to use open communication (seriously, more fantasy books need couples like them!). There’s a strong theme of generational healing throughout the book, and it was written with care and authenticity. I didn’t realize how much I was craving a healthy peek at ‘happily ever after’ until I got to sink into Adam and Vic’s story.
Even though Adam is more stable now, the story doesn’t let up. There's chaos with Annie’s unexpected return from the dead, some very creepy new supernatural threats. It’s a clever blend of side characters that actually matter and plot threads that weave beautifully into a new arc.
An amazing end to this series, but I wish it went on forever!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC in exchance for a fair and honest review.

Another thrilling enrry to the adam binder series this time following Adam still realing with the events of Rouge Community College and the sudden reappearance of Annie who was thought to be dead.

I like this book a lot Adam is sweet and lovable and is getting better about being open with those in his life that matter. My big citique of this book os some of the mystery of it was messy and hard to follow. It sets up well for another book in this series. The ending also felt a little rushed and one villian was a little more over the top than i prefer. But, it was lovely and heartfelt and if you are already a fan of the Adam binder series this is a wonderful entry

Thank you Blackstone Publishing and Netgalley for this eARC, these opinions are my own. So happy for another Adam Binder book!! Adam’s life is good, he’s got his job, home, boyfriend, and he’s closer to his family than he’s ever been. Plus his role in the magical world is pretty cushy two. Things change on Halloween when he’s brother’s dead wife turns up at his door. She has no memory of dying. Is this really her? Adam must delve deep into the magical world in order to find out what is going on. But will he like what he finds? Or is he about to discover something dark and more dangerous that he could have ever dreamed of? I love David R. Slayton’s world building and depth of characters! I’m always rooting for Adam and it’s always fun to get to see some of the side characters, especially those from Rogue Community College! I was hooked! It felt like seeing old friends! Fast paced, excited, full of action, funny, mysterious, and unputdownable!

If you are a fan of the Adam Binder series, this will not disappoint! I was thrilled when I heard there was going to be new additions in this world. I had missed Rogue Community College, which is references throughout RR. I was able to context clues through but would definitely recommend reading it before you jump into this newest book! Luckily that just means that I get to go back and read that now!

The fourth main book in the Adam Binder series is more of what we love from the series.

It does a great job of taking us back to where it all began with Bobby and Annie, while introducing a whole new chapter of life for Adam and Vic, and introducing new elements and characters that will hopefully get a chance to be expanded even more in future books… 🐺

The other really cool thing about this book is that in addition to being a nod back to the beginning of the series, it also has a lot of great, natural tie in to Rogue Community College.

This might be my favourite book in the series to date, next to the original, which came into my life exactly when I needed it.

I couldn’t put this one down. I tried to savour the beginning, but I read the entire second half in one evening. It really makes me want to go back and reread all the books in preparation for what is hopefully a very long-running series/universe.

I love that David Slayton never quite leads you where you think you're going. I had a totally different expectation of how that was going to end, but I see we are going to have a few more books to resolve this plot. *Rubs hands with glee* I cannot wait...except I have to.

I hadn’t known this was the fourth book in a series when I snagged the ARC, but I can honestly say it didn’t feel like it mattered. While it’s clear this is a lived-in world, I had no problem understanding how all the pieces came together. The world was introduced casually, as it was a world Adam has lived in all his life, but still given weight and reality.

Actions in this world have consequences, and the harm that Adam endured — the pain, the fear, the betrayals, the use of his magic — are allowed to be felt, to be grieved, to hurt. Adam gets angry, and fights back, but for the most part he simply wants to get along. To have time with his lover, his family, his books … and never makes the first move. He doesn’t provoke people, he tries to build bridges until the other person begins to break them … and then he gets angry enough to fight back.

While this is a fun paranormal story with elves, leprechauns, witches and warlocks, magic swords and evil cults, it … doesn’t have much romance. Maybe because this is the fourth book and it’s an established couple, but some of the interactions felt a little like afterthoughts. However, I did get the sense that this was a couple who’d been together, fought together, and had each other’s backs.

The writing is good, the pace is good, and the mystery solidly put together. I had enough fun with this book that I’m going to look up the first book in the series and give it a try. If you’re looking for something that feels a little familiar, but has enough of it’s own flavour to stand apart, with a large cast of magical creatures and found family elements, this is definitely a series worth giving a try.

Thank you so much to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC!

Some years after the events of the last book, the reappearance of Annie jolts Adam's now much more stable life back into confusion and adventure. I always enjoy these books, as they are reliably enjoyable and exciting stories. I still remember the first image of Adam I had in my head in White Trash Warlock, slinking out of the shadows with all his angst and vulnerability and loneliness. I think this is perhaps why I was a bit less engaged in this instalment. Adam has found stability and loved ones, which is wonderful, so I think it just depends on the tone/type(?) of character one likes to read about, the place they are in life and so on. I was so grateful to have been able to read this ARC via Netgalley and I hope this series reaches many more readers!

I love this series! The world-building is great, the characters are great, and the stories are interesting. In this volume Adam's sister-in-law comes back from the dead and, well, there are questions. And Adam has to learn some more stuff about being a Page. And will Adam and Vic get an apartment together? And...and...and.....

This is another good read in a series full of them. Slayton has done a good job of building a solid fictional universe. And Adam is a solid character. I enjoyed the story and the way it was resolved while also setting up about Binderverse twist.

I recommend the whole series to anyone who likes urban fantasy.

So, as I always do at the beginning of reviews of David’s books: full disclosure, we’re friends. However, if I didn’t like his books, I would follow the rule I follow with other books I don’t like which is: If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

Hooray! Adam and Vic are back! I missed by literary sons. I’ve known them for a very long time and the break (while full of literary goodness, including: Rogue Community College and Dark Moon, Shallow Sea) was kind of killing me.

As the pandemic calms to a dull roar, Adam finds himself still in Denver with a steady job in Jesse’s garage, living in Bobby’s basement. Vic has left the police force for the chef life. The boys are still together (of course) and talking about finding a place of their own when Halloween night waltzes in along with something unexpected: Annie, Bobby’s dead wife (not a spoiler - it’s in the plot summary).

Commence action.

Most excellent action I could not put down. Like, I had stuff to do and decided not to do it could not put down. Dinner almost burned could not put down. Stayed up too late and didn’t regret it the next day could not put down. Lots of swords and sorcery and some fun new critters. A time loop that actually worked - and I am judgy about time loops people. I am judgey about time loops and I have very high expectations of David because I know what he can do and he nailed this one. There’s also really excellent development on some non-main duo characers: Cousin Jodi; a character from RCC who has a short but meaningful cameo; Annie; and perhaps most importantly, our erstwhile Winter King Silver, specifically the ways in which he’s had to change to fit the role of reigning monarch to maintain the supernatural peace. Ways Adam, and Silver himself, don’t particularly like.

There’s also a sense of existential dread that permeates Redneck Revenant one can’t quite put one’s finger on, a sort of humming ominousness you can almost hear while you’re reading that’s new to Slayton’s writing and that makes this book extra creepy. There are hints throughout that something very, very bad is coming and that the new evils that present themselves in Revenant are merely harbingers to whatever the new hellspawn is; I for one, am both terrified and absolutely stoked to find out.

Hurry up, Backwoods Banshee.

New to the series and the author—what a fun ride! I had such a great time with Redneck Revenant that I’m already planning to go back and read the earlier books.

Even jumping in mid-series, I never felt lost. David R. Slayton does a great job bringing you up to speed while diving straight into the action. Adam Binder is a fantastic lead—charming, flawed, and just trying to get his life together while dealing with, you know, magical politics, elven courts, and the occasional masked supernatural threat. Totally relatable.

The book kicks off with a Halloween surprise: Anne, who’s very much supposed to be dead, shows up on her husband’s doorstep like nothing ever happened. From there, it’s one twist after another, with missing magic users, creepy spirit realm shifts, and something big and bad brewing behind the scenes.

What really hooked me, though, was the heart of the story. Adam and Vic’s relationship is sweet, honest, and refreshingly healthy. It’s rare to see that kind of emotional depth in the middle of a fantasy adventure, and it makes everything hit a little harder. Also, shoutout to the supporting cast—each one feels fully realized, and the callbacks to past events are woven in so naturally that I never felt like I was missing too much context.

It’s fast-paced, funny, emotional, and just a little spooky. I wasn’t expecting to get so attached so quickly, but here we are.

Big thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the ARC—can’t wait for the next one!

I was the biggest fan of the trilogy that preceded this and I jumped at the opportunity to read the continuation! Adam Binder had been through it, so I feel bad wanting more conflict haha but tbh the story surrounding Annie’s return was so intriguing and compelling it felt good to be back with these characters

Oh how I've missed Adam Binder. I have been looking forward to this book and it did not disappoint.

Things are looking up for Adam, He's got a job he likes, he's Page to the Elven Court of Swords and a wonderful boyfriend. That is until on Halloween night Annie (his brother Bobby's "dead" wife) turning everything on it's head. That along with Adam stressing over his future with Vic and his recent loss of Vran complicating things.

Firstly this book had so many twists it kept me intrigued and locked in! I love how the author brings in background characters, everyone has a personality and are not just filler. I really like how what happened in Rogue Community College was interwoven into the story. I also found it refreshing that Covid was mentioned and worked into the story.

Annie how I love you! I didn't know what to expect when she reappeared but she's an absolute delight. It was also nice seeing Jodi make a reappearance and that what happened in the past for all the characters was so expertly included in the story. I'm also always happy to see spider.

Finally Vic how I also love you! Vic is following his dreams to be a chef and wanting to take the next step in his and Adam's relationship. I absolutely love these two together. They have such a healthy, open and honest relationship and truly love each other. It's refreshing to see Adam getting some therapy as well.

The story moves fast, some new characters are introduced and it will keep you engaged and turning the pages.

This book was worth the wait and now I can't wait for the next installment. What an absolute joy to read! I love this story and these characters.

Thank you NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I've greatly enjoyed the Adam Binder books, and this one was no exception. The writing was excellent, as usual, and this book sets the stage for some very promising conflicts ahead. I don't want to comment on specific spoilery details, but overall, two thumbs up, and I can't wait to see what comes next.

My thanks to the publisher/NetGalley for an advance copy of this book.

got this arc from netgalley!

anyways i have been a fan of the adam binder series for ages and this one? did not disappoint. continues to be entertaining, have a cool magic system, and all in all be a cool time. also fun to see the character growth happening in real time. i don't think this would make sense without having first read the other three books, and tbh i wish i had gone and re-read before starting this one, just for my own reading experience.

i don't really have an in-depth review, because i think the important part is: this is a good book and you should read it!

truly my only issue, and this is a very personal one, is that i have an instant visceral reaction to any covid mention in media so if that is you as well: be warned! this is urban fantasy and takes place in a world where covid also happened.

thanks again for the arc, i devoured it in like two days. would read again!

I received and ARC from NetGalley for my honest opinion.

I love the first Adam Binder series a lot. I still think about it a lot, so when I was able to get my hands on this? Super excited. Definitely read Rogue Community College before delving into this one, though. A lot of events that happened in that book are referenced in here (and I am sure will have ramifications later in this series perhaps). I loved being back in the world and I love this new plot thread we have going in this new one with regards to Annie and her family. More of the world gets explored and I dunno, I was just really happy to be back.

If you enjoyed the Adam Binder series so far, definitely come back for this one. It promises a cool new plot and more Adam and Vic (I was very happy to see so many scenes with them together and being all couple-y. It made me happy).
