This is the first time I have read anything but the author, but when I saw the book cover I thought it looked like a place I would love to be reading my next book.
This is a book about starting over, even when you think you world has ended. Lily Bishop wakes up one morning to find a good-bye note and divorce papers from her husband on the kitchen counter. Sick of being controlled by him and his mother who has always beena third wheel in their marriage when she finds out the house they recently moved into is being given to another employee Lily has to make some tough choices. Having only moved to Alabama a few weeks before because of her husbands job she needs to find some new place to live and a way to make some money.
This is a really lovely book about family, frendship and communit spirit. Without giving too much away the bond between Rose and Lily is lovely and it is so nice to see it bloom and for them to start to heel each other. I enjoyed the writing style and pace of the book. And I will defintely look out for her work in the furture.
Thank you to NetGalley for a caopy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"The Summer House" by Lauren K. Denton is a cozy, heartwarming story set in a charming Alabama coastal town. Lily Bishop’s life takes an unexpected turn, and as she navigates loss and uncertainty, she begins to find strength, hope, and a fresh start. The small-town southern charm in the community of Safe Harbor really shines here—with friendly neighbors, porch swings, and all the feels of a close-knit community. The endearing characters are memorable and so believable.
I loved seeing Lily’s growth throughout the story. The mix of family drama, gentle romance, and new beginnings made this a really satisfying read. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a book about second chances and learning to embrace life’s twists and turns with hope, and allowing others to grow in their own time, and be accepting of others all along the way.
If you want a relaxing, feel-good novel with heart and hope, The Summer House is definitely worth a spot on your "to be read" list.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lauren Denton, and Thomas Nelson for an ARC of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for this arc. This was such a lovely listen. The author has a way of story telling that had me reminiscing about the past or feeling like I’m actually there in the book. This book felt like a Elin Hilderbrand book, but cleaner. I Ioved how we got to know all the different characters in the community and the way they gossiped. It was a very enjoyable listen. I would definitely read another book by this author. When I first started, I thought it would be too slow for me, but the gossiping town and the story line had just the right pace for a cozy summer read.

Summer read set in a retirement community where Lily lands a job cutting hair after waking to a note from her husband… with divorce papers. Hilarious group of bored retirees… no steam, but sweet as southern tea!
Thank you NetGalley

Realized as I started listening that I actually purchased this audiobook a few years back and was pleasantly surprised by the opportunity to listen through it again.
Lauren has a wonderful way of weaving in the view points of multiple characters while maintaining the integrity of each character's voice and keeping the personal story arcs intact.
I loved getting to travel to Safe Harbour Village with Lily and Rose. The viewpoint of a multi-generational group provides dimension and understanding to how a common experience can bring people together regardless of lifestyle or life stage.
The way Lily gets to experience a new start, new relationships, chosen family & friends is a reminder that life does not end when we experience loss or hardship, but rather we can seek new opportunities.
Bonus points for the top tier narration of this audio book. The soothing southern drawl makes the listening experience that must more enjoyable.

This left me with all the feels, and it was just the emotional ride I didn’t know I needed. I listened to the audio format and really enjoyed this style of reading.
Lily has just moved to the Alabama Gulf and her life is upturned when her husband leaves her. Lily is in need of a job when she decides to apply to a hairstylist for a retirement community.
I loved the characters and thought this was such a sweet story!
*many thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson for the gifted copy for review

I just loved this book and didn't want it to end!
I absolutely loved this novel and couldn’t put it down. I felt like I was right at home amongst all the characters, some quirky and some down-to-earth.
If you are looking for a book that is both emotional and empowering, this story will bring you on that journey. For fans of women’s fiction and clean romances, this one will bring you through a calm, charming, feel good, community.

A beautiful book full of second-chances, learning to move on, and discovering yourself.

Not very exciting but fine when you need a fast, easy, cozy read. The focus is on multiple relationships and found family. Third person keeps it at a distance.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this book. I really enjoyed the characters, their growth and the setting. Such a fun book.

I really enjoyed this book. The story was great but I think what really made it special was the narration. Devon O’Day gave the characters life. When Lilly Bishop’s world is flipped upside down she finds herself trying to start over in her late 30’s as a hairdresser in a retirement community. This is not how she pictured herself at this stage in life but perhaps it’s exactly where she needed to be.

I listened to the audio of this book and would highly recommend this to anyone that loves a delightful read with charming characters that will warm your heart! Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lauren K. Denton's The Summer House (audiobook) offers a heartwarming journey of rediscovery, proving it's never too late for a fresh start. Denton's signature Southern charm weaves through the tale of Lily Bishop, whose life is upended when she finds a goodbye note and divorce papers from her husband, just weeks after their move to Alabama for his job. Devastated and alone in a new town, Lily desperately needs both employment and a new home.
Opportunity arrives in the form of a hair stylist position at Safe Harbor, a small retirement community. This community is the brainchild of Rose Carrigan, a woman who built it after her own husband left her for his assistant. Rose runs a tight ship, keeping everyone, even her own family, at arm's length with her strict rules and cold exterior. Yet, Lily's arrival begins to thaw Rose's hardened heart, forging an unlikely friendship between the two women.
Lily's salon quickly becomes the hub of town gossip and shared secrets among Safe Harbor's colorful residents. As Lily finds herself drawn to Rose's nephew, Rawlins—a single dad who understands starting over—and observes a resident carrying a torch for Rose, both women begin to wonder if life and love hold more possibilities than they've ever imagined. The Summer House is a charming and inviting story about unexpected connections, the power of community, and the courage to embrace new beginnings, no matter where life's currents take you.

This was an absolutely wonderful book. I listened to it on audiobook and the narrator was top-notch which I think was crucial to to making this story come alive so well for me. Rose and Lily were well developed, complex characters that were likeable, even Rose with her complex personality and hard exterior.
The setting really came to life with the author's words and descriptions; I felt like I was on the warm coast of Alabama enjoying the sunshine and the water along with the crew. Which brings me to the setting, which is a retirement village. The description of it is spot on and comes to life and the supporting characters are fun and add so much to the story as well.
If you get a chance I would definitely give this a read or a listen.

I listened to the audiobook of this and loved it. The narrator was absolutely perfect for the southern setting and the multiple POV. I found the story itself pretty inspiring in its own way. Lily wakes up to find her husband has left her and has got to put her life back together. By chance she finds a help wanted ad that leads her to Rose. While 40yrs apart, they both have some healing and fresh starts to make. Enter Rawlins and Coach, they are exactly what both women need. It’s completely clean and no smut. Just a number of people finding their own joy in life and figuring out what’s important along the way.

Are you looking for a new audiobook? Pick up The Summer House by Lauren K. Denton. I really enjoyed it. It's available now.

Lily’s life changed in an instant. The moment she saw her husband’s note “I can’t do it anymore”, she feels as if she has lost everything again. Finding a job as a hairdresser in elder community bring back her mother’s memories and the way she helped her in her own hair salon. The more she works for the community, the more she start to feel like herself again. Can she rebuild her life and find friendships and even love again? Second chances, new beginnings and so much more. The audiobook with Deon O’dey makes the story even better. Thanks to NetGalley for the ALC copy. This is my honest review.

This was a Hallmark movie in a book. It’s like a good iced tea: sweet, southern, and perfect for summertime. It gave me a lighthearted story with an emotional plot I didn’t have to get too invested in. I will say, I hated the abrupt ending. I wanted more! It was a light read, but sometimes I craved depth. The author could have delivered more detailed character arcs with these great character, but I got what I signed up for — I didn’t really expect more from this novel.
The narrator did pretty good southern accents, to the point that it made mine come out after listening for too long.

I absolutely adored The Summer House! The retirement community setting was such a charming and refreshing change I genuinely wanted to be part of it. The characters were so full of life, and I loved the found family vibe and the cozy, uplifting atmosphere. It struck the perfect balance of heart and humor. I listened to the audiobook and thought it was wonderfully done. The narration really brought the characters to life and made the whole experience even more immersive. Such a feel-good listen

This was such a light nice story.
Its about two woman main characters who have struggles in their life.
The young Lily learns a lot of the older Rose and Rose also learns a lot from Lily.
This ends in a beautiful friendship.
This book makes you feel like you are with them, in their story.
I would definitely recommend this book!!
Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the chance to listen to this book!
