Kathryn Nolan strikes again!
This beautiful sapphic novel is so much more than I ever expected! This treasure is buried so deeply into my soul, it will never cease to live.
Harper is a reporter sent on a mission to interview a treasure hunter who has stayed off the grid for 25 years. Nobody has been successful in tracking down and interviewing the elusive Monty Montana. This is Harper's mission and she refuses to fail.
Eve is a salvager of antiques, the niece and fierce protector of Monty Montana.
Harper travels from New York City to Santa Fe in her search of Monty and finds herself in Eve's shop. The electricity between Eve and Harper was fire, but of course, instead of admitting the lust and attraction, they argued. And argued. And argued. Unable to trust one another due to their own fears and abandonment issues, they kept one another at a distance. Until circumstances continually threw them together as they both took up the search Monty and her wife, Ruby, had seemingly abandoned.
The beauty of the writing in this book surpasses all of Kathryn's previous books (and I loved those too!). Reading the pages, I felt as though I was traveling with Eve and Harper through Santa Fe and the long forgotten towns along their journey. The desert and the mountains and the sunsets were all so vivid. The fireflies and the Milky Way. The dirt and the dust. The passion between these two adventurers was palpable. And our King Kathryn is still the master of that first kiss!!
The love story blooming between these two gorgeous bi-sexual women heated the pages. Their search moved from finding Monty, to searching for the lost diamonds stolen in 1900 by the wife of a wealthy and questionably moral man. The unraveling of the story behind these stolen diamonds is so emotional, there is no way to hold back the tears. Love is love is love...
I can honestly say, our world needs this book!
Some of my favorite quotes:
"You should have come with a warning label, Eve"
"But she was much too angry and much too beautiful, and it was like trying to ignore the sun"
"That same wildflower feeling told me something about them was special, that investigating them further would all be worth it, because shining a spotlight on queer and trans love throughout history was always worth it"
"It's also what it says: we see you, you are one of us, we are in this together. It's about the hope"
The Thrill of the Chase is set to release on July 1. Do yourself a favor, pre-order this book, read it the moment it is available and, of course, thank me later!!
