As a therapist, I think this book can be used as tool in session and valuable to those that have experienced various traumas. Often those who experience trauma feel misunderstood and unloveable but that isn't the case. This book is a wonderful addition to a clinician's library especially those that work with couples, trauma survivors and graduate students with interest in working with these populations.

Thank you for allowing me to read and review this novel. I want to start by saying that I think that the information contained within this book was extremely useful and thoughtfully written. I appreciated the tangible advice in each section. That said, I thought there was a bit too much "you'll hear about that in a future chapter". In the opening, I was fine with this statement, but as the book went on it got a bit grating and felt like it detracted from the information being disseminated in the current chapter.

Overall, the book was concise and helpful.

Healing as a Couple When You Both Have Trauma by Aimee Daramus
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)

Aimee Daramus offers an insightful and encouraging guide for couples navigating trauma in Healing as a Couple When You Both Have Trauma. Covering a wide range of topics, the book not only helps readers understand trauma but also offers practical skills for managing its effects within relationships.

As someone with PTSD who is recently married, I found this book invaluable. Daramus thoughtfully explains how trauma may present differently for each person and why those with trauma might be drawn to each other. I particularly appreciated the chapter on attachment styles and how they can impact relationships—this section truly resonated with me. Additionally, the chapter outlining simple, practical skills for immediate relief was the most helpful and applicable to my own life.

This psychology-backed guide is not just informative but also genuinely hopeful. It’s an excellent resource for anyone working through their trauma or supporting a partner who is. I’ve already highlighted numerous passages to discuss with my partner and our couples therapist, as this book inspired meaningful conversations about our journey together.

"Healing as a Couple When You Both Have Trauma" by Aimee Daramus, covers a broad range of topics regarding trauma and how to navigate and heal your relationships while focusing on instilling hope and encouragement. As someone with PTSD who is recently married, I found this book invaluable. I have already made several notes/highlights to show and discuss with my partner & our couples therapist.

This book starts by defining trauma and how it may show up for different people as well as the WHY people who have experienced trauma may be drawn to one another. I specifically enjoyed the part explaining how attachment styles can play into this as well. It continues to discuss simple skills aimed for immediate relief. I found this chapter to be the most helpful to me personally.

Overall, this is a psychology backed, informative guide for anyone who is struggling with their trauma or someone who's close friend or partner is.
