This was a fun and totally wild revenge mystery/thriller that I really enjoyed. I listened to it on audiobook, which was a great format—the narration was engaging, well-paced, and even had me laughing at times. I debated between 3 and 4 stars, but ultimately landed on 3 because, while I’d absolutely recommend it, I’m not sure the plot will stick with me long-term. It’s a perfect summer read: fast, entertaining, and full of drama, even if the twists weren’t especially shocking.
You definitely have to suspend disbelief—some moments are a bit far-fetched—but it’s still a thoroughly enjoyable ride. The story follows a woman who works as a graphic designer by day and night shifts at a country club, all while trying to figure out how to pay for her dog’s $10,000 brain surgery. Then one night, she’s offered money to poison a patron... who just so happens to be her ex. This was shockingly good.

Kim Valva, a struggling waitress, is offered money by a mysterious stranger to poison a rich new club member—who turns out to be her ex, Tony. Unable to go through with it, Kim watches in horror as his fiancée dies instead. Caught in a web of lies and danger, she must uncover who really wanted them dead before she becomes the next target.
This book had everything I love in a mystery thriller, twisty timelines, clever cons, and that addictive “just one more chapter” vibe! I was hooked from the start and loved how the past and present wove together to slowly unravel the truth. If you're into suspenseful plots with sharp writing and shocking reveals, I highly recommend picking this one up!

💭What I thought would happen:
If this title doesn’t scream duplicity, I don’t know what does. Also, the cover is giving me PTSD to when I used to serve in university and had to set up the private rooms for functions for middle management beige people😑
📖What actually happens:
😈MURDER!

🗯Thoughts/sassy musings:
I associate this author with a solid thriller, never disappoints, never amazes. But grab the popcorn and kick back. I love that in a book.
I’d say it rolled out exactly as I’d imagined. I was predicting (hoping) for a better twist but again, still perfectly yeehaw here we go.
The ending was quite abrupt that I went to have a pee while listening and by the time I was done tinkling all was tied up in a pretty satin bow. The end. I was like oh ok…let me pull my panties up.
Anywho, grab it and go have an iced latte in the park..

This fast-paced thriller was full of twists that kept me guessing. I really enjoyed this book full of tale full of double lives & deceit keeps you guessingTold from multiple POV and in duel timelines (then & now). PJ is playing the long game to get revenge. Kim’s past & present intertwine. Book by Jaime Lynn Hendricks. Emma Love did an excellent job with the narration.
Thank you to NetGalley & HighBridge Audio for letting me read this ARC.

Wow. This one had me from the get go! First by Hendricks and won’t be my last. Seriously, so entertaining. Loved the audio book.
PJ and Anthony seem to have the mostly perfectly romantic relationship. Or is one of them leading a double life?
Y’all. This one is a don’t miss. Loved every second.
Thank you netgalley for the advance listen!

Their Double Lives delivered a double dose of delicious deceit and drama! It’s been a minute since I’ve read a thriller by Jamie Lynn Hendricks and I’m so glad that I found this one equally, if not more, entertaining as her debut novel, Finding Tessa.
Their Double Lives followed Kim, a waitress at a posh New Jersey country club. She lived a very different life from the carefree socialites she served. There were many aspects of her life that were not in her favor. Her boyfriend cheated on her, her social life was in shambles, and her dog needed a life saving surgery she couldn’t afford. When a mysterious person who identified themself as The Stranger contacted her, he/she presented Kim with an offer she couldn’t refuse.
Hendricks crafted a fast paced, addictive thriller that was unputdownable. This story was so deceitful. It was also full of revenge, lies and manipulation. I enjoyed the multiple points of views and timelines. In addition to the alternating perspectives and timelines, I was invested in the characters and all their deceit, drama, and twisted friendships. If you love a deliciously deceptive cat and mouse thriller with utterly flawed characters, you will most likely enjoy this fast paced twisted thriller.
Thanks to Net Galley and High Bridge Books for the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

4.5
Their Double Lives by Jamie Lynn Hendricks is a twisty psychological thriller that dives deep into deception, manipulation, and the blurred lines between truth and lies. The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, centering on Kim—a woman facing financial struggles while caring for her aging dog. When an opportunity arises to insert herself into the lives of a seemingly perfect couple, the situation quickly spirals into something far more sinister. Secrets unravel, alliances shift, and no one is quite who they seem.
I really enjoyed Their Double Lives! The shifting perspectives added a dynamic layer to the story that kept me engaged and turning pages quickly. It had a similar vibe to The Last Mrs. Parrish and A Simple Favor, with its themes of envy, hidden motives, and dark secrets.
I listened to the audiobook and found it a bit confusing at times—since the narrator didn’t vary the voices much, it was occasionally hard to tell who was speaking. It was especially odd when Anthony’s parts were read in the same tone as the others. That aside, Kim’s storyline felt especially relatable, especially her love and concern for her dog and the financial stress she’s under—it grounded the story in a real, emotional place.
There were a few plot holes that left me with lingering questions, but they didn’t take away too much from the overall experience. While not perfect, it was a fun and fast-paced read that I’d definitely recommend to fans of twisty domestic thrillers.

I was hooked from the first chapter and finished the audiobook in less than 24 hours—I simply could not stop listening.
The story kicks off with Kim, a down-on-her-luck waitress at a country club whose life is unraveling. Her boyfriend just cheated, her beloved dog needs a surgery she can’t afford, and she’s desperate. So when a stranger offers her a chance at a financial reset—by slipping a pill into a drink at the country club—she’s dangerously close to saying yes. But everything flips when the target turns out to be Tony, her high school ex, now a rebranded millionaire with a glamorous 22 year old fiancée.
From there, the plot explodes!!!
PJ, Tony’s fiancée, dies suddenly at dinner, and Kim is left wondering: was someone else given the same instructions she was? If so—why PJ? Why Tony? Who’s pulling the strings, and who can be trusted?
This book is layered with secrets, double-crosses, and gasp-out-loud twists. Jaime Lynn Hendricks masterfully keeps you guessing and doubting every character’s motive. It's smart, fast-paced, and so well executed. If you love twisty thrillers with morally gray choices and high-stakes tension, this one is for YOU!

This was a super quick read that kept me hooked. I found it a little bit predictable at a few points, but it was still a lot of fun!
The only thing I wasn't the biggest fan of was PJ. I'm not sure if we were supposed to like her and be rooting for her, but I just wasn't. She came off as whiny and annoying and I wish there had been less of her.

Oh my goodness!!! This book had me from the first page and I absolutely flew through it! I needed a spreadsheet to keep track of who was double-crossing who!!!🤣🤣
This is my second read by Jaime and I love her books. The characters are all so unlikable but I am captivated by them all. Highly highly recommend this book!
Thank you NetGalley and Highbridge Audio for the chance to read and review this book. Narration was amazing and just added to the awesomeness of this story!!!

Great audiobook. I was locked in! The narration was wonderful. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this audiobook.

What a fantastic suspense thriller! Full of plot twists and chock full of morally grey characters (except for Murphy), this dual timeline novel kept me enthralled from the beginning to that very last sentence. Outstanding!
I thoroughly enjoyed and I highly recommend to all thriller suspense fans.
The narration by Emma Love is terrific! Such a big cast of characters and her narration never left me confused.

I was so excited to dig into "Their Double Lives" by Jaime Lynn Hendricks. I absolutely LOVED her last book "A Lovely Lie." The audiobook was very well done. Emma Love does a great job at narration of this book. This has many different viewpoints and timelines and I didn't feel confused at any point which tends to happen sometimes with a single narrator. There were so many twists and turns. I didn't want to stop this book at all. Every character is a morally grey other than Kim's goldendoodle who is a sweet baby angel, of course. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes fast paced thrillers. Thanks to NetGalley and RB Media for this audio ARC.

Thank you to HighBridge Audio for my gifted ALC, and thank you to Penzler Publishers for my gifted ARC.
Their Double Lives is a killer, double crossing, double take of a thriller. Each time you think you grasp what’s happening, you’re wrong. It was freaking delicious. And the last sentence? I cackled. It was the cherry on top of a brilliant book.
I am newer to Jaime Lynn Hendricks, but wow. She packs a punch. Her writing is like biting into a crispy red apple. Juicy and sweet. It makes me want to read everything she has ever written.
This is the type of book I want to wipe from my memory, just so I can read it for the first time again. You need to listen to the hype around this one, because it is a blast. Full of twists and turns, you’ll be surprised until the very end.

Kim, a waitress in an upscale country club, needs money for her ailing dog. When she is contacted by The Stranger and given a task, just slip a pill in a member's drink and all your money troubles will be gone, Kim thinks she has found the answer to her prayers. When the member turns out to be her ex-boyfriend, who has a new girl on his arm, Kim can't go through with the plan. Instead, shockingly, Kim's ex's girlfriend dies at the table. What ensues is a twisted tale told from several viewpoints. This was great! I enjoyed the narration. This was good from beginning to end, just when you think the twists have stopped, they keep coming until the very last page.

What a tangled web we weave! Secrets, lies, manipulation, double lives, and danger set the stage for Their Double Lives! This was such a gripping, fast paced, entertaining, addictive, and thrilling book which had me turning the pages at warp speed as I wanted to know how things were going to unfold! This book is full of twists and turns which kept me fully invested and turning those pages.
Kim Valva is a waitress who is in desperate need of making some money as Murphy, her beloved dog, needs life saving surgery. When she is contacted by 'The Stranger' who offers her a lot of money to put a pill in the drink of a member at the country club where she works, she agrees. She'll do anything to save her dog's life. Putting a pill in someone's drink sounds easy - deadly yet easy. Shockingly, her mark just happens to be Tony Fiore (now known as Anthony Fuller), her high school boyfriend. It really is a small world after all.
As the night unfolds, it is not Tony/Anthony who dies, his fiancée, twenty-two-year-old PJ Walsh dies instead. This leaves Kim reeling and wondering if someone else was tasked with killing PJ as she was tasked with killing Tony!?! Just what is going on? Who is "The Stranger" Why did PJ die? Was she murdered or did she have a food related allergy? Who can be trusted?
This was a delightfully twisted and clever tale! This was a wonderfully written, well thought out, perfectly plotted engrossing book that I had a hard time putting down! Whew! What a wild and crazy ride Their Double Lives turned out to be!
Addictive, gripping, twist filled, and hard to put down!
I was lucky enough to have both the kindle and audiobook versions of Their Double Lives which made for an exciting reading experience. I thought the narrator of the audiobook did a wonderful job of bringing the book to life!

DOUBLE LIVES is a well plotted, fast-paced story of revenge at its best. I really enjoyed it and think this is the author’s best book I’ve read to date. I’ll be anxiously awaiting her next book. I hope it won’t be too long! Highly recommend!!

Their Double Lives by Jaimie Lynn Hendricks
A BIG thank you to #NetGalley #HighBridgeAudio and the author for sending me this ALC in exchange for my honest review.
About the book: First off the book switches off and on each chapter between the present and the past…
Kim Valva is having a hard time in life. Her long time boyfriend she lived with cheated on her, her social life is in shambles, and the worst of it is her dogs needs life saving surgery that she can’t afford. She works as a posh country club in New Jersey and is constantly trying to pick up more shifts.
Then it looks like her lucky her about to change when she is contacted by someone mysteriously only known as “The Stranger”. The Stranger makes her an offer she can’t refuse: Put a pill in the new member’s drink and, when he dies, she’ll have enough money to save her dogs life.
The man who is the target just so happens to be Kim’s ex boyfriend from when she was a teenager, Tony Fiore. It has been 15 years since Kim has seen him, and he is a lot different from the bad boy she use to know. He is completely cleaned up his life, makes millions, and has his 22 year old beautiful fiancé, PJ Walsh with him.
PJ has her own plans for Tony that she put in place long before meeting him. Trick him, marry him, and kill him. It was supposed to be easy, but the more time she spends with Tony the more she finds herself starting to actually falling for him.
Kim is absolutely shocked to see Tony, and just can’t bring herself to go through with the plan. Instead it is PJ that all of a sudden dies right there at the table. But who did it? Was she also a target of “The Stranger? Who would want them both dead?
You’ll have to read for yourself to find out!
What I thought: I really enjoyed this book! The story grabbed me from the start. I like that it’s told from two different POV, Kim and PJ’s. So, you get to read about PJ and learn exactly what happened. For me this was one of those, I can’t book the book down sort of books. My one and only “complaint” is I did see the “twist” coming. It was a little too predictable but still otherwise a really good story! I’d rate this book 4 stars.
Narrator Emma Love does a great job!
This book will release May 19, 2025

Kim is absolutely drowning — full-time graphic designer, part-time waitress at a country club where the guests are rich, rude, and possibly murderers. Her beloved dog Murphy needs a life-saving surgery, but surprise! Pet healthcare in this economy is a joke. So when a blocked number offers her twenty grand to poison someone’s drink at the club? She doesn’t laugh. She doesn’t scream. She considers it. Because when you’re broke and your dog is dying, morality becomes extremely negotiable.
The mystery mark? Anthony Fuller — formerly known as Tony Fiore, her high school ex who she ghosted so hard he reappeared with a new name, a new face, and a fiancée so flawless she might actually be a robot. And that fiancée, PJ Walsh? She’s not just here to plan a wedding. She’s been plotting something way darker. Years ago, PJ’s mother was murdered — and a man’s already doing time for it. Case closed, at least officially. But PJ never believed the justice system got it right. She’s convinced Anthony was involved, and while everyone else moved on, PJ built an entire new life to get close enough to make him pay herself. Not in court. At the altar. With a plan she’s been perfecting for years. And now she’s moved in, glammed up, and locked onto Anthony with a slow-burning plan for revenge that’s part Shakespearean drama, part forensic chess match.
The plan is clean. The rage is earned. And if everything had gone according to schedule, PJ would’ve walked out of this book a legend. But instead? Someone ends up dead — not saying who — and suddenly Kim’s no longer on the outside of the drama. She’s smack in the middle of a whodunit full of liars in designer loafers, and every clue makes things messier. Because here’s the thing: no one is who they say they are. Not Anthony. Not PJ. Not even the people pouring drinks.
Some scenes hit light, almost flimsy — like you're skating across the surface of something juicier. But then? You start seeing the work. The precision. The years of secrets snapping into place like a mousetrap dressed in pearls. This isn’t just “rich people, bad decisions” fluff. It’s a fully-calculated spiral of revenge, guilt, identity, and manipulation that’s so much deeper than the shiny cover suggests. Every smile is a lie. Every toast is a trap.
Kim is a perfect chaos anchor — tired, broke, heartbroken, but still too smart to ignore the gaps. She’s not the kind of person who volunteers for murder — but once Kim’s dragged into the mess, she holds her ground. Watching her untangle the lies while quietly falling apart over Murphy? Hits like a gut punch in slow motion. And PJ? She’s serving full “revenge but make it couture” energy. Right or wrong, she’s magnetic, messy, and never, ever dull.
This one’s a 3.5-star ride — starts flashy, full of rich-people-murder energy, but what really lands is the slow, sneaky unraveling of how far people will go to rewrite the ugliest parts of their past. Not flawless, but sharp where it counts — and #TeamMurph all the way.
Whodunity Award: For Skipping Therapy and Jumping Straight to Contract Killing
Huge thanks to NetGalley and HighBridge Audio for the early listen — chaos, secrets, and morally questionable choices straight into my ears? Say less. Emma Love nails the narration, capturing every sharp turn and simmering grudge with just the right bite.

Great book. Kept me guessing until the end. Would definitely recommend. Will try to find more books by this author
