I only see someone liking this book if they were an absolute fan of We Were Liars and Family of Liars, which I cannot say that I was.
This story follows Matlida, who receives an invitation to Hidden Beach from her father, whom she’s never met or even heard of.
The premise was good, but the book just fell flat for me. I wasn’t connected to any of the characters, which didn’t allow me to submerge myself in the story.
Again, this book is great for those who liked the two other books in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and author, E. Lockhart, for an advanced copy of this book.
This is the 3rd book in the We Were Liars series. You don’t have to read the 1st two before reading this one. I absolutely loved We Were Liars. The lien the author’s writing style, its unique without trying too hard.
We Fell Apart is about a young woman traveling to the east coast to meet her famous painter father for the 1st time. However, once she gets there nothing is as it seems. While not much happens, I was never bored reading this. I knew there would be twists and turns, and I figured out some but not all. It was an easy, enjoyable read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Twisty, sharp, and emotionally gripping
We Fell Apart was an excellent read that didn’t let up on the twists—I was hooked from start to finish. As a sequel to We Were Liars, which is a killer book in its own right, this follow-up more than holds its own. E. Lockhart brings that same lyrical, haunting style and adds layers that deepen the original story in unexpected ways. If you haven’t read We Were Liars yet, do yourself a favor and start there—then come straight to this one.
Huge thanks to the author and publisher for the ARC copy. I’m so glad I got to dive in early!

One of my favorite things about this series is how whimsical and nostalgic this world can make me feel while also equally experiencing heartbreak. This 3rd entry in the series does just that. My favorite book of all time is I Capture the Castle, the decrepit romanticism of loving your life while also juggling the trauma of existing brought me similar connections to this.

Extraordinary poignant and beautiful writing about the ache of belonging and seeking family wherever you may find yourself. I loved this companion book to the previous books. This is my favorite because Matilda is such an empathetic character and her desire for a family is so beautifully written.
Spoilers:
I loved the romance of Tatum and Matilda. The enemies to lovers arc was finely written and created narrative tension. The mystery of the artist also gave the book suspense and drama that had me staying up late to finish the book!
I think some chapters were a little long when discussing all the family connections. However, I enjoyed the characters Tatum, Meer, Brock and Matilda creating their own family.
I think reading the previous books gives you background information on the characters but I also think this stands on its own for the narrative.
I definitely enjoyed the descriptions of Kingsley’s art and the mystery of where he was. That was an excellent twist. I think Saar is a comic foil and a delightful character that amplifies Matilda’s search for a family. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Press for the advanced reading copy.

5 Stars!
I loved this story. Matilda was a unique yet relatable character. I loved the growth she experienced throughout the story. I also really enjoyed Meer. Tatum and Brock were good side characters but I thought there could be more development for them. I tried the guess the twist several times but was wrong. June is terrible. I tried hard to like her in the end but I just didn't. I read this book in one day... loved it.

*We Fell Apart* by E. Lockhart is emotional and raw, with that signature twisty style she’s known for. The characters felt real and messy, and the story digs deep into love, loss, and identity. It’s a quick read but definitely leaves an impact.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
MILD SPOILERS FOR WE WERE LIARS + WE FELL APART
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I read this book in one day and I enjoyed it a lot. I've been hit and miss with these books because while I did enjoy We Were Liars, I did guess the plot twist within the first 10% of the book. I did love the characters and the setting so I continued the story. I did not end up liking the prequel. While I don't love the formatting, this new story in We Fell Apart, connected those we loved from that series into a new one where we got to learn about other sides of the Sinclair Family. I liked the found family in this and how they all had their own stories that brought them not only to the island but together. I would say this one felt like it wasn't as much of a mystery. Like yes there's some things we find out but to me it isn't set up as a mystery/thriller like I originally thought it would be seeing as how it is similar to We Were Liars. Can't wait till this officially comes out!

Another strong installment in the We Are Liars series! It was well-written, easy to read, and suspenseful. Although technically young adult, it would appeal to a larger audience. I wish I had remembered more details about the prequels, but it is not necessary to read the other two books prior to enjoying this one.
Thank you very much to NetGalley and Thomas and Random House Children’s Books for the advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The book starts off really strong. The premise is captivating, and the characters introduced at the beginning are quite interesting, they make you want to know more, while also leaving you questioning their every move.
The idea behind the story was great, though I’m not sure the execution fully worked for me. I started to lose interest around the middle, and while the ending was definitely intriguing, it didn’t leave me with the sense of satisfaction I was hoping for.
I wouldn’t call it one of my top reads of the year, but I’d still recommend it. It might resonate with someone else in a way it didn’t for me.
I really liked the theme of craving for family connection and the bonds that come from it. The romance felt a bit unnecessary to me, and I think Saar ended up being my favorite character.

I’ve been an E Lockhart fan forever. I’m a huge fan of this series and I hope there’s more to come. Thank you for the opportunity to read an early copy, finished in under a day!

First of all, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
We Were Liars was one of those books that stuck with me looooong after I read it, so I was thrilled to see this pop up - especially considering the We Were Liars series will be dropping on Prime Video in a few weeks!
The way E. Lockhart writes is truly a gift. It's like nothing else - mesmerizing, almost. I always love diving back into the world Lockhart has built. This book is set pretty soon after the Sinclair house fire, but follows Matilda Avalon Klein. Her mom left her for another man, so now she lives with her mom’s ex (MESSY). Out of nowhere, a famous artist emails her claiming to be her father, so she heads to meet him, but instead finds a bunch of unexpected characters—none of them her father. As you can imagine, there was a ton of drama and mess related to this whole chaotic situation, and it was SO FUN.
Overall, I really enjoyed this. I did feel like the pacing was a bit slow in the beginning, but it ramped up after a few chapters and it was FULL STEAM AHEAD. If you enjoyed We Were Liars and Family of Liars, definitely grab this one. The little Easter eggs and tie-ins make it so fun and worth it!

I am a huge E. Lockhart fan. Her latest, We Fell Apart, was just what I needed! I loved it! It's available later this year. Don't forget to pick it up!

I love reading about the Sinclair world that E. Lockhart has created. We Fell Apart is set shortly after the infamous Sinclair house fire, but it's still separated because we follow Matilda Avalon Klein as she navigates the truths she has found out about her family, her life and her heritage. Matilda's mother left her for a man, and she lives with her mother's ex-boyfriend, but she receives a mysterious email from a famous artist who claims to be her father. In her search for her identity, she goes to his Hidden Beach home, but she comes across some unexpected characters, none of which are her father. As with any novel about the Sinclair family, you can expect that there is some dysfunctional family drama.
E. Lockhart paints another vivid picture of mystery, tension, romance and intrigue. We see a slow burn romance, missing people, and some tie in's to Birchwood Island, that definitely keep you on your toes. I think that it was a little slow to start, but after the first 1/4 of the book it got a lot faster and more dramatic. The unreliable character analysis was pretty interesting to me and I kind of saw the twist coming but then I didn't actually, which was a fun part of the book. Overall, I think this was a great (quick) read, it only took me 2 days to finish. If you liked We Were Liars and Family of Liars, then do yourself a favor and grab this one when it's out, there were some fun crossovers and easter eggs in this one!! I rated up for 4.5 stars!
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Children's Books, Delacorte Press and E. Lockhart for the eARC of We Fell Apart in exchange for an honest review. We Fell Apart by E. Lockhart is set for publication 04 November 2025.

Review
I have read the other two books that are related to this one and loved them so I am excited for this. Interesting start for sure. I'm confused for the beginning. What is all over now? She escaped her parents? A family of two. Introduces himself by email, odd. So her dad is a famous painter and invited her to a hidden island? The art sounds umm interesting lol. His stuff being confusing in interviews and a painting of her mom? Her as persaphone? The two of them not so far apart wtf. The story of how them met. Wow that's a story but 4 mil and never made a penny? Wtf! The amount of men and screens, a gamer? So much happens but not really and then her bf breaks up with her? Woah wtf. The journey sounds so rough tbh. She vomited and met some people? What a ride both the plan and the taxi. The mention of the Sinclairs. They are discussing what happened in the first book. I didn't know what glum would be but a big dog, so cute! Idk who these people are but he's his father too? This sibling dynamic is interesting! The blue shirts and passing out? Everything seems so sus. An insight into her thoughts is interesting to say the least. The taxi driver is Tatum? The vitamins in the fridge and the trip to the burnt house. Everything seems so on edge but idk why. The story and them traveling as a group over to the island that belongs to the Sinclairs from the other two books. I love hearing about the third person account of what happened in the first book and an orphan? He knew mirren and was supposed to meet her? Snowball sounds fun tbh. Her falling and him finding her. The aftermath and her with the phone and the podcast. This is all very sus to me. He's had her painting this whole time? The emails. Learning more about Brock. The dynamic with her and the boys is very interesting. She has to like him!! Her wanting to leave but choosing not to. Woah Holland wtf. The explanation of the Cinderella painting woah. The whole gabe thing. Him talking about his parents' death is so saddening and so is her stuff about her mom. Woah what? Wtf is happening. The hidden sketchbook. She confronted him and live animals? She stood up for her brother and finally kissed Tatum. I feel like him telling her not to be here is a hint. June not showing up is sus. Them drinking and swimming and then the next day! Wow the dog killing the birds. June and her going at it. Woah what? What happened to him? Is June crazy? What just happened wtf. Tatum following her in the rain and her running. The explanation of everything, wow. Her going to Holland and how does she know meer? The family and Kincaid sounds familiar. I knew it the second Holland said his name. Meter = diabetic? All of the connections about his past and the paintings. The note. Tipper learning about her and then tipper telling meer about his cousins. He pretended to be him? That art piece. What a heavy book. She's going back to do what exactly? Scissors. Her talking to him and he killed the chicks? Woah him turning and leaving. June finding her and then them trying to find him. Meer? He's dead and the events that led to his death. Calling the police and dealing with them. Her destroying his letter. Saar showing up out of worry and seeing the world she has been living in. Her leaving, damn that's sad. The aftermath and explanation of everyone and what they chose to do with their lives. Her game sounds dope tbh. Such a good book, opened my eyes and wasn't what I was expecting at all.

I rated this four out of five stars!

Many thanks to NetGalley, Random House Children’s Books / Delacorte Press, and the author for the e-ARC.
3.5 stars.
A quick, enjoyable read - "We Fell Apart" takes us back to the world of "We Were Liars" and "Family of Liars" - a.k.a. young love with a beautiful beach setting and a mysterious family.
NOTE: You do not need to have read "We Were Liars" and/or "Family of Liars" to read this book, but there are major spoilers in this related to "We Were Liars".
This book is a good addition to the series, though I enjoyed (loved) the first two books more, especially as the plot twists were stronger in my opinion.
I wish we could have gotten to know the characters a tad bit more (i.e. their backstories) though I liked each of them enough regardless. Also, the author once again includes the occasional stilted writing style, which I think is meant to be lyrical in prose but is actually really annoying and at times confusing.
Overall worth the read, especially if you enjoyed the first two books!

I love this series so much. I can't wait for the new adaptation on Amazon and I hope we get even more books in this series!

I think this book was better than the first two books and I might’ve liked this better because it follows a different storyline, but thought this storyline was more captivating and it kept me on my toes. Where is the other storyline from the first 2 novels were somewhat predictable and relatively slow

This was a decent story. The plot twist caught me off guard, as the plot twists in the other 2 we were liars books did!
You don't have to read the other two books in this series to read this one, but I recommend that you do. it will make a lot more sense.
I was bored for the first half of this book, then it started to pick up, and the plot twist happened.
This is probably my least favorite of the 3, but I still enjoyed it!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!! this comes out in November!

I didn't realize there was another book published after We Were Liars and before this one so I had to go find it and read that first. While I did enjoy this overall it was tonally so different from the previous two. It also took so long (around 70%) to reveal how it was really connected to the previous two books. It felt really culty at the beginning which I'm sure was intended and became more of a meditation on grief like the first one. For me, nothing will capture the magic of We Were Liars, but this came closer than the prequel before it. I did enjoy it overall and will be recommending it to friends, especially those who read We Were Liars.
