I always love a good vampire novel from Twilight to Anne Rice’s novels, so seeing in the synopsis that this had vampires in it had me really excited. Then I read the author's letter at the beginning and it made me even more interested on how this was going to go with flipping the story and making the victim take control of her life. I’ve also always really wanted to go to Paris and took four years of French in high school so I was really looking forward to this one! The beginning drew me in right away and made me want to book a flight to France. I loved the author’s writing style and descriptions!

I was a little sad when I got to 20% and then 30%, and we still hadn’t actually seen any vampires yet. Like when is this book going to vampire? The "vampire" is just kind of mentioned. But mostly shrugged off as a mentally ill person biting/attacking people. It might have helped if there were some povs from the vampire written throughout. It was just okay at about 30% in, it’s just not really what I was expecting at all. At 40% and honestly, when we still really didn’t even have any vampires yet I was getting kind of bored and I had a hard time staying focused and wanting to keep reading. This honestly felt mislabeled as a vampire novel to me because I made it to 45% and they still didn't feel like they were going to touch on vampires anytime soon. I know you have to set up the story and maybe I was being a little impatient, I just thought we were going to get to the vampires right away.

Overall, I might be in the minority on this one, but I wasn't the biggest fan! It felt like the author took too much time setting up the story and rambling on about art printing techniques then really getting anywhere with the plot. I was really disappointed with this one and dnfed around the 45% mark after a long spiel about making art prints. I want my vampire novels to actually include a vampire. Not making the main character out to be some sort of a victim. I can see what the author was trying to do but it didn't work for me. I get enough of that in real life and when I'm reading a vampire novel I want to get lost in the fantasy world of it all. Sadly, this one just wasn't for me.

All thoughts and opinions started are solely my own! Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the arc in return for an honest review!

I love a good vampire book, but this was not it. I hate to say this, but the book was so hard and painful to read. The character makes some very stupid and illogical choices in her new home. The main character is not relatable, admirable, interesting, or unique as most main characters should be. The romance between the two characters was sweet, but a bit rushed.

Thank you to the publisher, the author and Netgalley for providing me with an arc of this book!

The Uninvited was such a great book! I loved the Paris backdrop, as well as the catacombs setting. The characters leapt off the page, and I really enjoyed the intertwining of art and history within the book. Tosh was a protagonist that you could easily root for, and I really enjoyed her friendships with Martine and Noor. The vampire was a detestable villain, and I thought Tosh's struggle with her infection was well portrayed. I strongly disliked Tosh's father and the way he refused to listen to her and blamed her for her attack, and I do wish he had some growth over the book, but it's a minor gripe in an otherwise very enjoyable book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys vampires or horror novels, and I will definitely be adding it to my collection on release day!

If you enjoy atmospheric YA with supernatural thrills, strong character growth, and moody settings, The Uninvited delivers. It’s a love letter to teenage empowerment, a wake-up-call about fear, and a vampire story with real bite—perfect for fans of dark romance and vivid world-building.

Read about 25% of book and DNF. The descriptions of the setting (Paris) were well done. I liked that I was getting to know Paris from our narrator's perspective. However, I found the descriptions of the characters to be difficult to follow. Also, the plot wasn't moving. After 50 pages in I still had no idea of what the conflict was. I knew that eventually things would happen because the first chapter tells us what's going to happen, but the text was moving a bit slowly. I wanted to read this because I really enjoy vampire books but after 50 pages I didn't get to meet a vampire. Maybe I did but there was nothing really telling me so.
