Everything she does is magic by Bridget Morrissey is a cute, sapphic, witchy romance. We follow two main character POVs. Darcy, the towns brightest and most ambitious student/practically the princess of all halloween festivities. And Anya, the new girl in town who is determined to remain as mysterious as ever… until she needs Darcy’s help. Anya is a witch, and in order to be initiated into her coven she kind of needs a mortal protector… which she’s already signed Darcy up for without ever having spoken to her. The girls get to know each other over the month of October and as their relationship develops they both find themselves having to make some difficult decisions.
I quite liked this book. I feel like the fall vibes were super cute and cozy. (Also can we talk about that cover?? SO CUTE) I love the town of Fableview, it’s almost Halloweentown-ish, which is one of my favorite movies. I really like Darcy and Anya as characters. Darcy is so bright and sweet it’s hard not to like her, and you’re wanting to root for Anya to find her place in town and become more comfortable there. I will say that while I like the relationship between the two characters, I feel like it developed a bit fast… I wish we would have taken a bit more time to see them together, as it felt a bit insta-love-y. Overall though I think this book is a good 3.5 star read, it’s a quick read that will get you into the fall spirit!
A big thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for sending me this eARC!

This book centers around accepting change and who you are and I think that is very lovely. Darcy and Anya made great main characters and the witch aspects were incredibly fun. The witch aspects still played on typical witchyness but this was written as something new. It was an enjoyable change.
Each character was fleshed out and each character had their own quirks. Everyone learned to accept what was happening and embrace change.
Wonderful read!

This was an extremely cute, witchy sapphic YA rom-com- you get exactly what you ordered with this one! The combination of the quirky town obsessed with Halloween and the addition of the found family trope makes this a perfect cozy fall read. I felt it was a little longer than it needed to be, but I ultimately enjoyed it and would recommend to readers of books like Dungeons and Drama, The Ex Hex (but without the spice), Spells for Lost Things, and A Modern Girl’s Guide to Magic!

the book was a cute little fall sapphic read! i felt like the timeline was a bit quick and some of the writing of the characters didn’t land for me personally (im looking at you kyle). overall though, the book was cute! it gave very much black cat and golden retriever vibes & i ate that shit up.
thank you netgalley and Random House Children's Books for the arc!

I went into this book assuming it would mostly be a cute romance. It’s also a book about friendship and family and expectations. 4.25/5

Everything She Does Is Magic by Bridget Morrissey is a warmly written cozy sapphic romance that combines small-town charm with light fantasy elements. Set in the vividly realized town of Fableview, where Halloween spirit permeates daily life, the novel explores the growing bond between Darcy Keller, a cheerful local eager to leave for college, and Anya Doyle, a reserved newcomer on the cusp of witch initiation who must find a mortal protector.
Morrissey skillfully balances the enchanting magical world with relatable teenage experiences, creating tension and warmth as the characters navigate their arranged alliance. The narrative shines in its portrayal of friendship turning to romance, set against a series of fall festival events that enhance the seasonal atmosphere. The emotional stakes are well-calibrated, focusing on themes of belonging, trust, and self-discovery.
This title will appeal to readers who enjoy character-driven stories with cozy settings and a gentle touch of the supernatural. The story’s heart and humor, combined with a contemporary sapphic romance, make it a strong addition to the market, particularly for fans of light urban fantasy and slice-of-life romantic fiction.

“Because that’s what the spirit of this holiday is. To try on different lives as often as possible. To have the courage to become someone new.”
This is a cozy, magical coming-of-age tale about a girl ready to step outside her small world, a town full of enchantment, and a journey of queer identity, self-discovery, and chosen family. It’s charming, quick, and just the right kind of heartwarming.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. I preordered it—and honestly, you should too. It’s fall in book form. Perfect for fans of Halloweentown, Twitches, and The L Word with a little more sparkle and a lot of heart.

I didn't have a good time and was pretty bored.The plot is just kind of weird and the reason for the tension doesn't make sense. Darcy is supposedly a disappointment for her parents by being too ambitious and the reason she is sneaking around is to work more on the family business? All her friends are bizarre and annoying I couldn't stand any time they were on page. Anya is just very flat and I guess that's the point that she wasn't allowed to have a personality. The ending was all too perfect and even with magic was just way too cheesy.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

High key, kind of obsessed with the vibes of this. Small town, gorgeous fall setting, fun Halloween vibes, SAPPHICS. The writing was great - it instantly sucks you in and the story goes by pretty fast. So much fluffy goodness filled within. A fun little mix of those classic Disney Halloween movies mixed with Hallmark.
The characters are all so much fun, minus Darcy's parents, that it's one of those rare books where I like all the side characters on top of the main characters. Grace?? Like that's my girl. That's my bestie fr. Anya and Darcy's relationship is super cute! I love a little opposite aesthetic and vibes in relationships.
Would absolutely recommend for anyone looking for something fluffy and light!
Thank you to netgalley and publishers for the arc xoxo

First, let’s start with the good stuff, 1.) the cover… gorgeous and so cute, the vibes are literally perfect 2.) I really loved Fableview, it scratched that Halloweentown itch that I always crave and 3.) I really adored all of the characters, especially our main friends, Darcy, Anya, Grace, and Kyle - I loved how they all grew together throughout the story. However, my only “dislike” is I felt it was very rushed. While I don’t know that the main plot required more pages, I just wished we could’ve had more time growing the relationship between Darcy and Anya, it’s for the most part, their love story but I didn’t feel like we had enough time exploring that and having fun with the flirty stages and stuff. I’ll definitely read more from Bridget regardless and do think this one will be enjoyed by people.

I feel like this book had a lot of potential. As I was reading I really enjoyed getting to know the characters, however I felt like there were a lot of holes in the plot. Parts of it felt like a movie being fast forwarded and I ended up feeling like I was uncertain how I got from point A to point B. I would have enjoyed much more of the journey along the way. There could have been a lot more character development in terms of them developing their magic skills, how the friendships formed, and how the conclusion of the book came to be. There was a lot of potential for the book to be something really touching and heartwarming, but I feel it missed the mark. The romance felt rushed, which honestly someone who is ACE may appreciate more as it was there but not over the top in any way. It was a sweet start, but left me wanting more.

"Everything She Does is Magic" by Bridget Morrissey is like taking a sweet trip to a place where Halloween never ends, and honestly, who wouldn’t want that? First, can we just fangirl over the cover for a second? It's so gorgeous it's basically a magical portal itself.
Diving into the story, I was immediately enchanted by the quirky town of Fableview. Seriously, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to pack your bags and move in next door to Darcy Keller—our upbeat, sunshine personified main character. Trust me, if you’ve ever felt stuck between family obligations and your own dreams, you'll see yourself in Darcy. She’s the kind of character who makes you laugh while awkwardly juggling a pumpkin and contemplating the meaning of life.
Then there's Anya Doyle, our brooding witch, channeling all the mysterious, black-cat vibes. She’s adorably awkward in her attempts to convince Darcy to be her "mortal ally," which might just be the best use of peer pressure ever. Their dynamic is like classic "opposites attract" with a magical twist, and yes, it absolutely gives off that "what if Glinda and Elphaba had a love story?" vibe. Sign me up for that ride!
The side characters? Absolute gems. They bring so much unexpected depth, it’s like they’re all vying for the Best Supporting Actor award. I love how they’re not just background noise but actual contributors to the plot—big plot twists included!
The town of Fableview is practically another character. It’s painted so vividly that I half-expected to look out of my window and see a parade of pumpkins marching by. It’s charming, cozy, and makes you want to dive into a stack of Halloween cookies with a cider on the side.
In short, this book is a feel-good explosion of sapphic sweetness, community warmth, and a touch of hocus pocus. I’m definitely grabbing a physical copy just so I can annotate all the swoon-worthy moments—and maybe figure out a way to magically transport myself into the world Morrissey has so wonderfully crafted. If you're looking for a sweet escape with plenty of heart and humor, this one's a no-brainer.

In, Everything she Does is Magic, Darcy is a lifelong (everyone in Fableview is a lifer) living in a real life Halloweentown. There is a long standing tradition of make believe magic and witches in Fableview- enter Anya an actual witch, with actual magical powers. Grumpy-sunshine vibes but make it cozy, YA and witchy! Anya has to figure out how to pass, basically a coven entrance exam, with Darcy's help as a "protector". The catch? Darcy knows none of this, not that Anya is a witch and certainly not that there are real witches all around the world.
First of all, I absolutely LOVED this entire book. The writing was so easy to love and get into, and the characters were just adorable and I couldn't help but fall in love with them! This title caught my attention because it featured a F/F relationship, and boy, it sure did not disappoint! I have not read YA in at least a decade, and it is something I actively stay away from. I will most certainly be reading the rest of the series as they come out. I would highly recommend this to teens and adults alike!

Tropes:
* Broody witch X bubbly mortal
* Cozy romance
* Halloween vibes
* YA
* LGBTQIA+ rep
Favorite quotes:
“I love when my friends have different opinions than mine, because it forces me to sharpen my own—to really understand why I believe something or, sometimes, why I shouldn’t.”
“And I love hearing every single thing you have to say.”
“Nobody in our town will care what you have to say… we will all choose Anya over you. So maybe get over it. Or just leave. You won’t be missed.”
“Closer to the top, it’s so black around the edge of carnival that it looks limitless, an infinite stretch of nothing.”
My thoughts:
A magical coming of age sapphic romance about a bubbly mortal and brooding witch. A book that will make you wish Fableview was a real place. I don’t usually read YA but I loved the vibes and the characters in this book! Vibes are very Halloween Town and I loved that! The relationships between characters made me turning every page. Certain character growth I just did not see coming. Overall I enjoyed this book, i don’t normal read about teenagers but this was so cutesy, cozy, and I don’t turn done a good Halloween moment!

First thank you to the publisher and netgalley for allowing me to read this book. I really enjoyed this book and thought that the story and two main characters were very sweet. Both Darcy and Anya bring out the best in each other and they find strength in themselves through each other plus Darcy’s best friend Grace who is awesome!
I highly recommend this book, it’s cute, sweet and a easy read.

Perfect, perfect, perfect cozy Halloween teen romance!
Darcy and Anya are both carrying the expectations of their respective families on their shoulders, looking for a way out. Darcy is expected to take over her parents' business and responsibilities, and Anya is expected to continue their witch traditions. They look to each other for comfort and find eventually find a way to each other and their true selves.
I absolutely adored this book. Darcy and Anya were great characters, fleshed out enough in this book to make it fun to read. Even the side characters are great. I was most surprised by Kyle. He could easily be a major conflict in the story, but he is instead just a dream male character. This is perfect for people who are looking for a cozy book for Halloween with very low conflict.

This was a totally charming, quick read! The romance was cute, the town sounds amazing, and the characters felt like real teens. A fun sapphic book to get ready for spooky season!

Halloween/fall sapphic romance? I’m sold, right off the bat.
Firstly, the cover?!? It’s so cute!!
This was such a sweet book, I absolutely adored it. I’m typically not a grumpy x sunshine sort of girl, but when it’s Sapphic? Count me in.
The side characters were well written, the setting is AMAZING, I wish I lived in Fableview!!
The romance, the banter, the plot itself, everything was amazing.

This book feels like a cozy Halloween movie. I enjoyed the journey Darcy and Anya go on to live the way they want. The book’s Halloween setting was immersive and had a cute sapphic relationship I enjoyed.
Thank you to Random House Children’s Books and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC.

If a book can make me cry, it's usually a 5-star read, and this one absolutely hit that mark. I found myself tearing up repeatedly at the sheer depth of love, heartwarming friendship, and enchanting witchy magic woven throughout the story. I wholeheartedly loved this book for its YA Sapphic witchy romance charm. It's undeniably the perfect read for Halloween! Let me count the ways I simply have to gush about this incredible story.
