"Perfect for the fans of Gilmore Girls and Wicked" HI THAT'S ME!!!!
Bridget Morrissey has BEWITCHED me with Everything She Does Is Magic – a cozy, sapphic romance, set in the charming town of Fableview, where every day is Halloween. You can give me a story with golden retriever and black cat energy any time and I will eat it up like chocolate (anyone who knows my Supercorp obsession can attest to this).
Darcy Keller, resident ray of sunshine and town spirit princess, loves her home, but also feels trapped. She has dreams of going to college, despite the very clear assumption that Darcy is expected to stay in town and take over her parent's art shop. Then there's the brooding new girl Anya Doyle, a real-life witch who keeps to herself and doesn't have any friends. To be initiated into her coven as a full member, she's expected to choose a mortal to be her protector. When pressed by her parents to tell them who she has selected, she lies, blurting out the name of her secret crush–Darcy. But, Anya and Darcy have hardly exchanged more than a few words to one another.
Fableview has the delightfulness of Gilmore Girls' Stars Hollow, and all of their kooky festivals. Fake or not, tourists travel from everywhere to experience the magic found throughout the town during the fall season, with many believing witches exist in hiding. And because Halloween is my favourite holiday, I would LOVE to live here.
Everything She Does Is Magic is a lighthearted, sweet read with loveable characters. Anya is my baby girl and I would've volunteered to be her protector (view spoiler) There is something so comforting about watching the main characters really discover what they want out of their lives while learning more about themselves in the process.
Grace, Maddie and Kyle are great supporting characters who feel fleshed out, adding to the storyline without completely taking over. They have genuine purpose(s) which I find rare in YA books.
4.5 stars (rounded up to 5 for overall rating).
If you loved Everything She Does Is Magic, I'd definitely recommend reading These Witches Don't Burn, another favourite sapphic witchy read of mine.

Let me starting out by screaming I LOVE THIS BOOK!
The writing was charming and whimsical. The town it was set in was a perfect backdrop for a coming-of-age, cozy romance, with a dash of the supernatural. I enjoyed that the plot was set up well to clearly differentiate who Darcy and Anya both were as characters but still gave them similar macro level paths of navigating complex family legacies that they were not sure they fit into or not. Their chemistry together also felt real when the feelings started to develop further.
The reason for a 4 instead of 5 start is mainly because of how minimal I felt the reaction was to Darcy discovering Anya was a witch and then felt there was overreaction when discovering Anya was telling others Darcy would be her protector. If the reaction levels on those two scenarios were flipped, I feel that would make more sense for the plot.
Overall, 4 stars is still a great rating for me and I have already recommended this book to others!

This was a very cute YA Sapphic romance. It gave all the Halloween vibes that it promised. I loved that the story of Darcy and Anya was an important part of the story but their romance wasn’t the whole plot. The friend group that slowly started to accept Anya and became so important to her, her working through the heartbreak of the last time she let someone in, the stories about what comes after high school, and even the junior HIMBO in the making Kyle. It was great.
My only eyebrow raise is over how fast the romance and eventual “I love yous” happened. I am balancing both the understanding that they are still kids so it’s not entirely unlikely that they would say I love you so fast while also holding skepticism about the fact they hadn’t spoken to each other prior to the start of the month outside of French class work.
Ultimately, this is a beautiful story of romance between two girls that any queer kid or teen deserves to have. No dread over coming out, extensive inner turmoil over identity, etc. just the story of people who find their way to each other and it’s normal and fun and witchy.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my feedback!
I normally don't read YA but the concept of this one was just so intriguing that I wanted to. I'm glad I did because it was such a cute and fluffy read. I'm so excited for cozy Halloween season!
There's a lot to celebrate about this book. It's a quick read. It has queer characters. It takes grumpy-sunshine and puts a unique spin on it that is charming. The characters are young but I appreciated that they were not treated like young children.
Anya and Darcy are a great pair. I was really happy with how the plot turned out. Even if this isn't your normal style, I'd say it's still worth your Halloween reads list!

Very cute sapphic Halloween story! The setting was incredible and made me nostalgic for 90s and early 2000s Halloween movies! I really appreciated that it was a queer love story that didn’t have a traumatic coming out story. I loved that everyone was accepting of Darcy and Anya and no one tried to weaponize their queer love. Thanks NetGalley for the arc!

If you're looking for a dose of Autumn vibes, but apple cider, cozy sweaters, pumpkin candles, and those little ghost/pumpkin sugar cookies just aren't quite doing it - Everything She Does is Magic will feel like a balm to your soul.
As someone who loves Fall, but doesn't get to truly experience it where I live (85° in October in FL just doesn't quite hit the same), this book was a full-on celebration of everything I love and miss about Autumn in the Northeast. That said, this is also such a cute sapphic romance, and I had so much fun following Anya and Darcy as they navigated the perils of teen romance and the weight of familial expectations.
Set in the Halloweentown meets Stars Hollow-esque town of Fableview, we meet Darcy Keller, lifetime resident and literal social butterfly. She helps her parents run their store, Pam's Paints, and the town's Fall Planning Committee that hosts each event throughout the month of October. Darcy literally does it all and still finds time to look fabulous, and hang with her best friend Grace, but her real goal of going to college is pushed to the side in favor of her parent's expectations that she will carry on their legacy.
New to town is Anya Doyle, though her family's legacy runs generations deep in Fableview. Anya is a witch, even if Darcy doesn't believe it, and even if she might have to give it all up and live as a mortal when she turns 18 because she "just isn't that enjoyable to be around" according to her Uncle Edward. Anya needs a mortal 'protector' in order to join her family's coven on her 18th birthday, and Darcy seems like the perfect choice. But as they get to know each other, Anya and Darcy quickly realize their feelings for each other aren't just "friendship" but much more.
And of course, there's everyone's favorite fearless, reptile-loving, costume-wearing, disco ball of a best friend, Grace. She's the glue holding everyone together, and in my opinion, might just be the real hero of this book. While she's bold and bright and constantly "cultivating a sense of intentional whimsy", she isn't afraid to be vulnerable with the people she cares about. We all need a Grace in our lives.
I had a lot of fun with this book, and if you're looking for something that is a lighthearted, feel-good Halloween-filled sapphic romance, this is a book you absolutely have to pick up this September.
Thank you to Netgalley, Bridget Morrisey and Delacourt for providing an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

If you are looking for an adorable fall romance to pick up later this year —- look no further!
This follows Darcy who lives in a town obsessed with Halloween. She works at her parent’s art shop and helps run the many town fall/Halloween festivities in the expectation that she will take it over when she graduates. Problem is Darcy loves her town, but she always wants to branch out and move away. She then meets Anya who is a real life witch. People aren’t sure about Anya, but Darcy starts to see her for who she truly is and they work together to help achieve their goals with a lot of fall and Halloween fun along the way.
This was so so stinking cute! It had every bit of fall and Halloween that I LOVE to see in books and the sweetest romance.

Everything She Does Is Magic might be my favorite book of the year. This was so cozy and adorable, and perfect for Summerween!

Magical, whimsical, heartwarming—this book was everything I wanted it to be and more! I highly recommend this book for youth and adults who appreciate all things fall.

I've read one other book by Morrissey before and loved it so I had a feeling this would be good too. I was so right! This book has whimsy, magic, found family, love, and drama!
The entire time I read this, I pictured it as a tv show or movie. The settings are so vivid and characters fully fleshed out. This was such an absolute joy to read beginning to end.
I'm excited to find out this is a series as well!
Thank you for such an unapologetically queer love story.

This was such a sweet, sapphic spooky story that I felt so happy to read! As I’ve read it during the summer, it made me yearn for all the fun autumn activities to arrive in a few months. Darcy and Anya’s partnership was adorable from the start. I especially loved Anya’s coming of age, particularly how she learned what being a witch looked like for her. The characters in this story were strong and lovable—I really felt like they brought the town to life. This was a wonderful exploration of queerness/how Halloween allows us to explore all types of versions of ourselves.

first off, thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc! what follows will be a reflection of my honest thoughts about the book!
i cannot act like this wasn't undeniably one of the cutest, sugary sweet books i've ever read. morrissey masterfully balances serious conversations, like topics of responsibility or just how much you can really put onto your friends, with light-hearted banter and an absolutely stunning atmosphere and setting that it's so difficult to put this book down once you've started it.
to just dive right into it, our cast of characters is nearly perfect. there's darcy, our sugary, responsibility carrying golden retriever main character, who i adored every single time she was on page. darcy's dreams match my own in many ways (feeling a sense of loyalty to your parents and hometown even when you desperately want out is a nightmare.) and it made it so much easier to connect with her. anya, our reserved, anxious black cat second main character, was equally as lovable. no matter how much she hid from everyone around her, she was truly just operating in everyone's best interest. she was the absolute sweetest, and i could not get enough of her character (even her being more of a stereotypical "witchy" teen worked in her favor both in the terms of her own personal characterization and the books setting overall.)
even side characters, such as grace or kyle or cal, the parents, and everyone in between, became so important to the plot in ways that, whilst it didn't take away from the main story, it made you love all of them so much more. (because lets be honest, who could you really hate in the world of fableview?)
on that topic, the setting is far and wide the strongest point of this book. fableview is such a textbook storybook town, and i wished so badly on every page that i could just snap my fingers and teleport into the city that morrissey created. the imagery was so vivid, and created the coziest atmosphere for this sweet, sweet story.
the romance between anya and darcy was simply the cherry on top of an already incredible story. their banter was perfect, and i didn't feel that anything was too rushed or too slow in building to it (given the books already shorter length.) I thought they fit together well, and when i saw that the book was marketed as wicked if glinda had kissed elphaba... well, safe to say i see the vision, and i love my silly little gelphie inspired children.
the story itself unfolded in a way that i didn't see it going. i didn't know that a certain character would prove to be so important in the end, but i am really glad that it was the choice that morrissey decided to go with, as opposed to how i thought the story would go. it made for both a good plot twist and cementing this character as a cornerstone of the book, which i sincerely appreciated. i feel like it's rare, at least in romance novels, for side characters to ever hold much weight aside from being plot devices, so i enjoyed the spin that this book took in making one of its side characters such a pivotal part in the ending of the story. definitely a plus from me.
in all, this was truly one of the cutest novels i have ever read. it was packed full of love, joy, and community, and it was so delightful to read. i cannot recommend it enough. definitely hope to pick up a physical copy on release day so i can scream in the margins about everything that made me swoon.

Happy Summerween, witches!
With alternating POVs and a countdown to Halloween, this cozy YA romance invites us into the Halloween-obsessed small town of Fableview. We follow the main characters through a costume parade, a pumpkin patch party, apple bobbing, trick or treating, haunted houses, and maybe even the Fall Ball.
If you need a cute and cozy romance for Halloween, this is the one! I would love to live in Fableview and it was so easy to root for our main characters as they grew exponentially during this month. The side characters are just as spectacular as our main girls. Grace is an icon and even Kyle grew on me. Honestly, there were several times that I found myself laughing at the characters. The sarcasm! The sass! I adore them.
In addition to being cute and funny, this story includes themes of embracing change, speaking up, taking ownership over your own narrative, and feeling like you don't have a say in your own future. But mostly, it's about how magical good friendships can be and how they can help you bloom into your best self.
I'm so excited to see what comes next to Fableview!
Thank you to Random House Children's Books - Delacorte Romance for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I will only be reading books about witches for the foreseeable future because OMG. I want to move to Fableview and dress up in costumes for the whole month of October!!
Darcy wants to leave her cozy Halloween loving town, Fableview, to go to college next year, but she doesn’t know how to tell her parents because they just announced that she’d be taking over their store after she graduates. Anya is a witch and is almost ready to become a full member of her coven, but she needs a “protector,” and unfortunately she has no friends. So, of course, she lies to her parents and says that Darcy (who she has a crush on) is her friend and will probably become her “protector.”
This book was so cute (as is the cover!!) The spooky season vibes were amazing and I love Anya and Darcy so bad. And GRACE!! We need a book about my girl Grace!!
Anya was literally SO down bad like she was literally staring through a window at Darcy in the second chapter talking about how perfect she is like omggggg. Her and Darcy had me giggling and kicking my feet they were so cute.
Not only is this book super cute, but it also focuses a lot on growth and separating yourself from parental/social expectations.
I’m in such a Halloween mood now why is it only July?!? Seriously, I’m this close to watching Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus and pulling out the Halloween decorations…
Anyways, I def recommend this book, especially if you love Halloween like me!

Thank you NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review. This book was very cozy and made me want to step into their town to celebrate Halloween with Anya and Darcy. Both girls are discovering who they are and find comfort in each other while helping with halloween festivities around town. Their friendship blooms being on the planning committee together and that friendship turns into romance. The only thing I wish was different was that it didn't leave with Darcy leaving for college and Anya staying back in hopes that their relationship will work out long distance.

This was the perfect cozy read, with great characters, a fun setting, and lots of queer joy. Darcy and Anya's stories were engaging, and their interactions with each other (and especially some side characters!) were sweet and believable. Once I started reading, I was completely engrossed and didn't want to stop until I finished. Netgalley tags this as the first book in a series and I'm eagerly anticipating the next one!

This was such a cute, cozy Halloween lesbian romance! Darcy and Anya were really sweet together and the side characters were really cute as well. I loved the small town, festive Halloween vibes of this story. It felt soooo cozy, the chapter design was a really fun aspect and I really enjoyed the magic witchy element of the book.
Would definitely recommend to people looking for a fun, cozy read!

Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Darcy is Fableview's resident ball of sunshine. She is smart, kind, and helps with her parents shop.
Anya is quiet, brooding, and observant. She has a few problems. One, she needs a protector or she'll be ousted from her coven. Two, she told her parents Darcy is to be her protector.
The problem with that is she and Darcy haven't been able to have a conversation more than a few brief words.
This story is sweet, emotional, and funny. If you celebrate summerween or are just looking to get in the Halloween spirit, check this beauty out!

Everything about this book was perfection. First of all the side characters were so lovely and endearing and hilarious. I loved Grace and her antics and how she was always over the top but also so sincere. She also cracked the funniest jokes. I loved that Kyle just randomly popped up places and was so goofy but also so kind. and Maddie was so cute. As for the main characters I really loved how different Darcy and Anya were and they both had bias about the o ther going in that they learned to work though and deal with as they got to know each other. I really think their relationship is so cute. I apprecited the Halloween town for the setting and all the events that they did. Overall a completely incredible story and one I can't wait to read again. I'm already begging everyone I know to read this when it comes out so I have someone to talk about it with.

Everything She Does is Magic is a cute, sapphic delight that hits all the right notes for a cozy, witchy read. The story blends easy, accessible spookiness with themes I can’t resist—magic, romance, and self-discovery. It’s light and fun, with just enough of an edge to keep things interesting.
The characters are sweet, and the chemistry between the leads is undeniable, though I wish we’d gotten a bit more depth from them—especially in terms of emotional growth. But the magic system is playful, and the whole vibe is so charming that I couldn’t help but enjoy the ride.
A perfect comfort read for fans of witchy romance and gentle spookiness!
