I absolutely loved the art style in this! The plot was super cute even though it took a turn that I didn’t think it would take. I liked the characters a lot. Night Chef was my favorite. I’m not sure if this is going to be a series, but I would definitely like to see more of it!!

I liked this book, but there were definitely some moments where I wondered if I was missing some pages--it lacked flow at times. But the illustrations and the story were interesting; I'm definitely interested to read another story set in this world.

A cute racoon serves as a night chef for a local group. While making his nighttime ramen an egg turns out to be expired, meaning there is a crow. Now on a mission to find the home for the crow, the racoon encounters many different friends along the way. He steps up to help a restaurant, encounters a band of animals on a train, and finally reunites the crow with its family. Such a touching story about friendship and family.

An absolutely charming young graphic novel from the incredible mind that brought us Norma and Belly the squirrels. A little Ratatouille, a little Frog and Toad, and all heart. I love Night Chef and her dedication to her craft and all the creatures she meets along her journey to return a lost hatchling. Withe recipes in the back, this book will have children begging for seconds!

An utterly adorable graphic novel about a raccoon chef that ends up on a quest to find the crows' nests after one of the eggs they were cooking hatches. I LOVED the illustrations in this one. The animals were all fun, and I am eager for more foodie raccoon adventures.

Thanks to NetGalley, Mika Song, and Random House Children's for the chance to read and review. My opinions are my own!

A cute graphic novel for kids about food and found family. This was very sweet. If you have young ones in your life, I'd recommend it for them.

I absolutely adored this gorgeous graphic novel. It tells the story of the Night Chef,an adorable raccoon with a talent in the kitchen. The chef rescues a tiny crow who hatches from an egg,Itchi, and goes on a journey to reunite Itchi with his fellow crows, unwittingly paying back the crows in an unsuspected way.
The watercolors are gorgeous and lush, and the characters are reminiscent of Patrick McDonnell's 'Mutts'

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it had similar vibes to Garlic and the Vampire by Bree Paulsen, and the Tea Dragon series by Katie O'Neill. The resourceful nature of each character, and the found family nature of th book kept this light-hearted and cozy. The illustations are warm and creamy, with easy to read dialogue and well-placed speech bubbles. Some illustrations are able to stand on their own and add to the story, which is one thing I appreciate in a solid graphic novel. I would recommend this for anyone ages 5 and up, and i think many young adults would enjoy this read (add to your classroom library!).

This was a quick and enjoyable read.

The art style was pretty and I liked the various (animal) characters.

The book could have been longer though, everything seemed a bit rushed to me.

Night Chef is a little raccoon that lives in a restaurant. One day while the humans are away, she decides to make ramen and needs an egg. As she looks in the flowerbox outside the restaurant window, she finds an egg that hatches in a little baby crow. Night Chef doesn’t know how to care for a crow, so she is determined to find Ichiban’s home and family. They go on a little adventure, come across many different species and restaurants, and find love and camaraderie along the way.

This was such a sweet little graphic novel. I’d read this one over and over again for all the good feels.

Such a cute little story of a raccoon who has always hidden herself away from the humans. She has a knack for making and creating food concoctions that everyone loves. One night while making ramen, she finds a baby bird and her adventure to deliver the baby back to her home leads her in a great adventure.

I loved how quick this story was while remaining action packed and sweet.

A lovely, reflective story about persistence, the power of friendship, and the importance of thinking on your feet. The watercolor art style is divine. Everything about this graphic novel is filled with a warmth that'll encourage kids to come back for repeat readings. These characters are such a delight!

I received an advanced copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
For Night Chef, a lonely raccoon living within the walls of a French restaurant has its perks and downsides. She, someday, wants to cook with humans, yet is afraid they would never want her. Yet, on one evening while making her ramen, she cracks open an egg and out pops a baby crow. What starts out as a surprise, Night Chef ventures into the wildlands with numerous animals, accompanied by the baby crow named Ichi. Determined to find Ichi’s home, Night Chef stumbles across a tavern on the waterfront full of animals like her. Will Night Chef ever see her own family?
Utterly adorable and just as fun. Night Chef takes the cake where found family and cooking come together in a delightful graphic novel for all ages. I loved the art style, which resembles watercolor, as it appears on every page in darkened browns, rustic oranges, and emerald greens. As a fan of the author’s Norma and Belly series, I hope she continues with Night Chef. This graphic novel is full of warm fuzzies!

This was such a cute middle grade foodie graphic novel! The landscapes are beautiful, and the characters blend animal traits with anthropomorphized behavior in an adorable way. The humor and internal logic of the story are charming. The Ratatouille vibes are strong with this one, though there are no central human characters, and in fact very few panels with humans in them at all.

I love that the whole quest to reunite a nekkid baby crow with his flock began with the desire to make the perfect bowl of ramen. Relatable.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

This was a fun graphic novel with absolutely incredible illustrations. The details in each panel and the humor throughout while the Night Chef went on its antics to make the perfect ramen were brilliant. However, it felt a little long for what the story was. Recipe at the end was a great touch. I always love with authors surprise us with something interactive or personal at the end of children's books.

This is an excellent, offbeat graphic novel that seems perfect for middle grade and up (though younger readers need to be prepped for a comparatively slower, weirder time than the most typical middle grade fare). I love Night Chef the raccoon, and I was fascinated by the not-all-that-cozy world we get introduced to through their journey. It's got great messaging, and I while I didn't absolutely adore it as a new favorite, I can't stop thinking about it. And that makes it pretty great, imo.

This was a very cute story great for 2nd-3rd graders looking for longer graphic novels while not being too wordy. The "twist" didn't surprise me as an adult, but some kids will be excited about it.

I absolutely love Mika Song's graphic novels and they are quite popular in my library, particularly Apple of My Pie. I'm sure this one will be loved, as well, though maybe with slightly older readers, as Night Chef is a little bit spookier.

The art and story are so charming.
