After the disappearance of her sister, Sabrina sets off into the fairylands to find her. There she meets Neirin, a fae prince, who offers her a bargain to help her find her sister if she offers her help in return.

Honestly, I was here for the vibes and the folklore, which I thoroughly enjoyed!

It’s giving Alice in Wonderland but with a Welsh Mythology twist!! This book was well written as well as researched appropriately. Sabrina was such a strong lead and really held the book together from start to finish!

It was a beautiful book. I love Sabrina Parry! I read it all in one day, it was so addictive! 5 stars.

Fans of Holly Black and Ava Reid will love this dark and atmospheric story. I loved that Sabrina wasn't particularly likable or perfect, but that didn't stop her from being brave and loving. I also really liked the dynamic between her and Neirin, and the development for both of them was sweet and satisfying.
The author also did a lovely job weaving elements of Welsh history and mythology into the world. I can't wait to read what Fiteni writes next! Thank you so much to NetGalley and Little Brown Books for the eARC!

I thought this was decent overall. I really enjoyed the classic fae aspect of this book where they can’t lie/you shouldn’t trust them/can’t touch iron etc. It felt so much like a classic story book world.

What I did not enjoy as much were the characters. Sabrina was very knowledgeable about the world of the fae, but her common sense was next to zero. For being an older fae, Neirin felt very young. I feel like he should have had some knowledge of the human world being around them as much as he did.

The plot was ok, it felt all over the place at times and tied together kind of weird.

I enjoy a good YA every once in a while and this one was definitely it. This is not a romantasy its definitely fantasy with a hint of romance.

So everyone always says romantasy. I will say this was fantasy with a hint of romance. Personally I am a bigger fan of the opposite but I still managed to really enjoy this. It had so many elements from the history, to the mystery, to the family connections I really enjoyed it. I do wish the ending was a little more fleshed out. I feel like at times I was skimming parts of the adventure that went on for awhile yet the ending seemed so abrupt and wasn’t necessarily clear. Overall still would recommend!

The Wicked Lies of Habren Faire is an upcoming YA fantasy by Anna Fiteni.

17 year old Sabrina discovers her sister Ceridwen has gone missing, and has always been able to see fairies.

Ceridwen has gone to the fairy land to be with her love, a mermaid named Morgen.

Sabrina sets off into the woods to find her sister, and learns that Ceridwen wants to be the king's champion by ridding the land of decay, in return for immortality.

Sabrina makes a deal with a fairy prince name Neirin to help her find Ceridwen, but it could cost her freedom.

The Wicked Lies of Habren Faire was a fun read. It was different from what I was expecting, but I still enjoyed it! There are elements of Welsh folklore throughout the story.

What I enjoyed
-The banter between Sabrina and Neirin
-The magical world Anna Fiteni created
-The strength Sabrina showed throughout the story

A sincere thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for the eARC.

Rating: 3.5 stars!

Is there a book 2?! Why do I feel like I have absolutely zero resolution after this? The cover of the book makes it feel like its going to be this super awesome fae boy / human girl romance. But I felt like the romance side of this book was an after thought. It's giving 'when Alice fell into Wonderland' vibes but the rabbit is her sister, and the Queen is a prince?

Overall, I loved the journey. I just wanted more of the 'romance' side of the story and a much clearer ending!

I really enjoyed this story and thought it was a great exploration of welsh folklore. I also enjoyed that it employed cultural and class critique without basically yelling it directly at the reader. It was done in a way that was emotionally impactful and well woven into the story.

I had so much fun reading The Wicked Lies of Habren Faire! The story is full of twists and messy secrets, and I was hooked pretty much from the start. Habren is such a layered character — she’s clever and a bit sneaky, but you can’t help rooting for her even when she’s making questionable choices.

The whole vibe is dark and a little wild, with magic and danger lurking around every corner. I loved how the story kept me guessing, and the banter between characters was so sharp and entertaining.

The pacing moved along nicely, though I did wish some parts got a little deeper emotionally, but honestly, the drama and intrigue more than made up for it. If you’re into morally grey characters, fantasy with bite, and stories that keep you on your toes, this one’s a great pick.

This story follows Sabrina as she goes into the woods into fairyland in search of her sister Ceridwen after promising her father she would take care of her family after he is imprisoned.

Sabrina finds out the woods are a lot more dangerous than they seem. The fairy world is starting to decay and she eventually teams up with Neirin a fairy prince, as she makes a deal for her freedom in exchange for help finding her sister. She finds out her sister is trying to become the King’s Champion by getting rid of the decay on her own in exchange for immortality.

The story is very descriptive and brings you right into the unique world and is very atmospheric. There is Welsh folklore interwoven into the story and the fae are of the more traditional variety (tricksters).

There is strong ties of family and sisterly love. The romance between Sabrina and Neirin is there but it is not the forefront of the story. There is also LGBTQ representation with Ceridwen and her mermaid girlfriend.

I liked the ending with the idea of Gran being reunited with someone from her past, and I enjoyed Sabrina’s decision at the end.

Overall this was a very fun and quick read, and I would recommend to any readers who love and enjoy YA fantasy with a bit of romance splashed in and strong themes of familial and sisterly love.

Thank you to Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

An atmospheric tale steeped in Welsh folklore! I really enjoyed the old fashioned feeling this story gave. It very much felt like an old fairytale. The fae in this book are depicted in the more traditional manner, which I always prefer (think the kind of fae that Holly Black writes). They are tricksters. I enjoyed reading about all the different creatures on main character encounters on her trip through the other realm. There’s even a slight historical fiction element to the story. I appreciated the LGBTQ representation, which was beautifully done. This book is being marketed as a romantasy, which seems to be a buzz word for any fantasy with romance. There is a slight romance, but it isn’t crucial to the plot. The story could have still existed without it. I could have done without the main romance, but seeing as it’s more of a subplot it wasn’t that bothersome. Part of me wanted the love interest to end up being the villain that our heroine has to defeat. He has the personality for it. It would’ve been a great twist. I wish we could’ve gotten a clear picture at the end of Gran and her sister. I wanted just a little more clarity with the ending for all our characters. I think fans of Erin A. Craig will find this to be their cup of tea.
