Fiction, Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Private Detective

This is the seventh book in the Peter Bragg series. Benny Bartlett is a writer in Seattle. When his life is in danger, he contacts Peter to investigate. Peter begins looking into stories that Benny has written about but none of them seem to be anything that would feel threatening to anyone. Things go from bad to worse when Benny’s office is blown up and his family members are threatened. Peter tells Benny to go into hiding but when refuses Peter must move fast to save everyone – himself included.

The story has a steady pace, and the characters are developed. It is written in the first-person point of view. The book is somewhat dated since it was written before cell phones and other modern technology, but I thoroughly enjoyed that fact. If you like hard-boiled fiction with a witty private investigator, you will enjoy this book too.

I loved the character of Bragg and he reminds me of the old gumshoe detectives. There were many twists and turns with plenty of wit woven in. I didn’t want it to end.
Many thanks to Brash Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
