An incredible book - a heart-wrenching and emotional read of a young boy growing up in the care system in Glasgow, after being taken away from his mother (who had undiagnosed mental health issues and self-medicated). At times it was difficult to read because of the trauma he experienced. He ended up being adopted by a family who loved him (with conditions) and after coming out was rejected by the family. I am glad to read that he reconciled with his father (the one who adopted him). He ended up losing two mothers in essence (his adopted mother died in a car accident and his mother still struggled to be a mother to him and ended up dying as a result of domestic violence). His story ends up on a hopeful note - he is a successful artist (he clearly had this talent at a young age) who has collaborated with many famous people. He and his husband have a son and I am so happy to hear how things have turned out for him. I cried when I saw a photo of him as a little boy holding the hand of Sister Pauline - a nun who showed him incredible kindness.
Thank you to Netgalley and Mobius Books/Brazen for an ARC and I voluntarily left this review.

Really heartwarming yet tragic boy. It's a book about struggle and trying to find yourself when you're living a tough life.
