This one wasn’t my favorite. I don’t see my students willing along easily and being engaged with the story line. The pictures were fun and engaging but the plot needs some excitement added tomboy the reader.

Yuri causes a catastrophe, but then everyone pitiches in to help. Not a whole lot to the story, but told with a sense of humor, and the illustrations are fabulous.

This is a funny story that everyone has surely wondered at some point--what would happen if the dinosaur bones fell apart or got knocked over? Told in a charming, rollicking tone, with abstract, modernist illustrations, the end result is that accidents happen and friends can pitch in and help fix the problem.

Book 163 of 350 ~ 2025

🌟🌟🌟🌟

European illustrations tend to hit different..maybe it's just me.

I enjoyed this, especially since it featured a museum, dinosaurs (somewhat), and a great story behind the story.

I received a complimentary copy of the ebook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a good book about fears, teamwork, and working to overcome said fears.

Filled with excellent illustrations that will keep older littles entertained whilst the story is being told [be sure to go back to see all you can see in them], I really enjoyed this one. My only wish is that it had been a little bit longer and/or Yuri's story had had a bit more substance. Regardless, adults and littles alike will love this and will spark many discussions for sure.

Well done.

Thank you to NetGalley, Hannah Brückner, Laura Watkinson - Translator, and NorthSouth Books Inc/NorthSouth Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It's a fun and thoughtful story about a big mistake that feels impossible to fix. But it’s also about being kind, working together, and learning to face your fears.
I liked how the book shows that everyone makes mistakes sometimes — and that it’s okay, as long as you try to make things right. A great reminder for kids (and adults!) that even when things go wrong, you’re not alone.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I think the message was great, especially for anyone who gets anxious (which is essentially everybody.) The art was gorgeous!!! So much thought and detail in each illustration. This is a very calm and very sweet story that I think lots of kids will connect with. They will either be able to see themselves in our main character, or they will better understand how to help someone who might need their assistance. I also really enjoyed how the words didn't exactly describe what the situation was; this leaves lots of room for discussion with younger readers to build comprehension (what do you think happened? How did the dinosaur fall? What is everyone doing? How did they rebuild? Did they remake the dinosaur correctly? Does that matter? etc etc.) Loved it!!!

This tells the story of Yuri, a child who gets frightened by a bird, and causes a catastrophe at a museum. I like how it talks about feelings and the lesson of everyone coming together to help. It is a simple message and nicely told. I think a few words would be difficult for younger readers on their own. But this could easily be used to talk about feelings when something big or scary happens.

Thanks to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books Inc. for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. Mayhem at the museum will be released on September 2:3, 2025.

Super cute illustrations and a fairly easy to read text will make this a great book for teachers and students to read aloud or independent. A cute story about how mistakes can be fixed, this book taking place in. Dinosaur museum will have readers laughing and then enjoying the ending. A sweet story!

Thank you Netgally and Northsouthbooks for the eARC of this lovely book. It’s available on September 23, 2025.

This is such a great book for teachers to incorporate into morning meeting to discuss what kids can do when mistakes happen. I love that it includes strategies and shows others pitching in to help so that kids know they don’t have to go through their mistakes alone. It also has vibrant and interesting illustrations. I really enjoyed looking at them.

I liked the concept of the book. I'm not sure why, but the illustrations kind of reminded me of Oh the Places You'll Go. This book would be good for reluctant male readers who like dinosaurs and are old enough to be familiar with words like "catastrophe" and "mayhem."

Such a cute little story about a boy who gets scared by a bird and make a big catastrophe. How will it all turn out?

Thank you yo NetGalley for the ARC!

The was gorgeous! When a slight fear of birds leads to a major mishap at the museum, Yuri must lean on others to help fix a problem. The community pulls through with a creative solution in the end. I loved the illustrations as well!

Mayhem at the Museum - 3,75/5 - lecture en anglais.

I really loved the illustration and the colors. Everything is pastel, it brings a sense of calm into the chaos of Yuri's catastrophe at the museum.

Yuri loves dinausors but is scared of birds. One day he goes to the Dinosaur Museum. And there, a bird appears, it frightens Yuri, who stumbles and trips... Here goes the whole brachiosaurus skeleton... Hundreds of pieces of bones scattered on the exhibition floor... What a big catastrophe.

I loved the story, loved the message. We can always at least try and ask for help. Remember to breathe. Surround yourself with people who are willing to help you and others.

Mayhem at the Museum is a delightful story about a visit to a museum that leads to an accident at the dinosaur exhibit. Although the story is straightforward, the reader will enjoy the lesson on teamwork and helping others.

A precious picture book about CATASTROPHES (perceived catastrophes are just as real to kids) and what we do when they happen. Along with lovely illustrations, the reader is reminded that asking for help is always an option, and nothing to be ashamed of. A really sweet reminder for both kids and grown-ups.

I enjoyed the simplicity of the original concept. The illustrations were extremely well executed and showed a clear narrative progression of what promises to be a beautiful tale of exploration in an environment that may not be familiar to all children.
I felt that the narrative itself was a little sophisticated conceptually for the probable age range of the book and would require a large amount of parent discussion. From my perspective it pushes a principle over and above the storyline (that was somewhat lacking in content) and first and foremost a good story is what will draw in and immerse a young reader.

A very important topic about asking for help when all seems lost, and you feel like this is the end of everything. A wonderful translation by Laura Watkinson of Hannah Brückner's original text in German. Yuri is a relatable main character and I love the simplicity of the text with how big the catastrophe was. The art is gorgeous! A lot of visual diversity in the crowd. The limited colour palette works wonderfully and it's overall a beautiful picture with a lovely message. I loved reading this!

Thank you to NorthSouth Books Inc. and NetGalley for the e-ARC of this title to read and review. The illustrations in this book are really special: they feel a bit nostalgic to my own childhood days of picture books, but also distinct and modern. That blend is striking. The story itself is an absolute wonder. The plot centers around a child knocking over dinosaur bones at a museum, which is actually a huge catastrophe. Stakes are high!!! The words do a wonderful job at validating that this really is a big problem - so not just "get over it! no worries!" Worries make sense, it's a big deal. But then there's getting through it and going beyond to how fixable things can be. It's the right message, with the right amount of tension, so the child isn't shamed for an accident, but there is a whole learning arc. A great read.

Mayhem at the Museum is a delightful whirlwind of adventure, art, and imagination that kept both me and my kids eagerly turning the pages. Set in a bustling museum where the exhibits quite literally come to life, this picture book masterfully blends humour with a touch of chaos in the best possible way.

The writing is playful and energetic, filled with clever rhymes and fun surprises, while the illustrations are bursting with detail—every page is a treasure hunt of visual storytelling. Kids will love spotting the mischievous characters, from runaway dinosaurs to cheeky sculptures.

What I especially appreciate is how the book introduces young readers to the wonders of museums and art in a way that feels exciting and accessible. It’s the kind of story that sparks curiosity and invites kids to dream big—and maybe even plan their own museum adventure.

Highly recommended for classrooms, libraries, and bedtime shelves alike. A riotous read-aloud that’s sure to become a fast favourite!
