Very quick and very good read! Although this was a meager 36 pages, it packed a big punch. Wanda did a fine job with creating tension, and setting the tone for a marriage that had reached the point of no return. I would have liked to have read more about the couple, but honestly, I feel satisfied that I had all of the details that I needed to know. I love a good revenge plot and this one delivered.
The narration was well done, it was my first time hearing the narrator, but her tone and performance matched the short story perfectly!

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version.
I didn't know this was a short story (under an hour). I did not like this book. I was expecting her to get revenge on her husband and I think that would have been better, this ending where the MFC has this build up... everyone loves a good revenge story/movie etc...but it just ends...just in a blah way.

I didn't like this novel. The story was yes a short story but I expected more....just a pass for me.

Small Things is a great short story thriller perfect for a quick listen and adrenaline hit. I've read All Her Little Secrets and Anywhere You Run by Wanda M. Morris so as soon as I saw the author's name I was excited to check this short story out. One thing that shocked me was the absence of race. As noted, I've read other books by Wanda M. Morris and her literature often centers Black women/Black American experience, so it was interesting that the characters in Small Things were racially ambiguous. Despite this, I still enjoyed the thriller and could relate to the FMC. I'd recommend for a quick, rollercoaster ride. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!

This short story completely blew me away and was definitely my favorite from The Alibis collection! Right from the very start, I was hooked! Wanda M. Morris doesn’t waste a single word and I was super impressed with how complete the story felt. It packed so much into just a few pages without ever feeling rushed!
Wanda throws you right into the action and keeps the tension high the whole way through. The characters were vivid, the suspense was real, and I found myself wishing it was a full novel.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Amazon Original Stories for the advanced copy of the book! All thoughts and opinions are my own!

Small Things is a short story in the Alibis collection by Wanda M. Morris. The audio version is narrated by Susannah Jones. Stuck in a marriage to a toxic husband, Hannah Ferguson’s only respite is in the little Etsy jewellery-making business she conducts in her little shed. She puts up with criticism, psychological cruelty and infidelity, but when Rusty vindictively prevents access to her only source of pleasure, it crosses a line. Hannah’s plan needs a good alibi, but she is clever and resourceful.

A good quick mini thriller with a delicious ending. I haven't read this author before so it's a good way to test their style. Everyone loves to see a bully come undone. Does the husband come out on top or will the downtrodden wife rise to the surface and seek her revenge? Thoroughly entertaining.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Amazon Original Stories, and Brilliance Publishing for gifting me an audio ARC of #6 of the Alibi Short Story Collection by Wanda M. Morris. All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 5 stars!

Hannah's only refuge from her life is her little shed in the yard where she makes jewelry. But her husband resents every minute she spends there. What's a girl to do? I'm working my way through these short stories, and so far, this is my favorite! Even in a short story, Morris is able to make you feel all the emotions.

Small Things
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wanda grabs you from the very beginning. You will not want to put this short story down. Hopefully it gives someone the power & confidence to leave a toxic relationship. It's so sad how many women keep themselves trapped in these kinds of situations. Please get help & running! The Audio was really good.
Thank you NetGalley

An entertaining short story well told by the narrator, the strength of this piece lies not in any twists as such, but in how well the writer renders the tale of a dysfunctional marriage.

It is an interesting take on what makes people stay versus what makes them leave, told in the voice of a character who is both relatable and sounds authentic.

Definitely worth a listen, it gets 3.5 stars. Because you will find yourself rooting for the underdog even harder than you expected!

Super Quick listen and an interesting story which is always the case with Wanda M. Morris. I am familiar with the narrator, so that made it even more enjoyable.

I received a copy of this audiobook via NetGalley.

This is a short story, but the feelings evoked when considering Hannah’s scenario make it feel much longer and detailed. It’s difficult to review without giving too much away, but I loved and appreciated how Hannah came “full circle” and realized, “If he’s willing to do this to me, what else has he done or might he do?” Anyone who has been in a situation like this can’t help but relate to Hannah.

I haven’t read any others in this series, but it sounds like they can also work as stand-alone titles.

Thanks for the opportunity to listen and review!

This book was not great either. I’m just not impressed by these short stories. I don’t understand the abrupt endings at all.

This was meh for me I mean it was highly predictable and some parts for me didn't make sense entirely.

This was enjoyable quick easy audiobook! The characters were intriguing— even Rusty’s horrible self! I was happy with the ending but just wished it was longer lol

Small Things is a masterful short story that left me wanting so much more—my only complaint is that this isn’t a full-length novel! Wanda M. Morris packs so much tension, atmosphere, and character depth into this brief listen, it’s honestly remarkable.

Hannah’s story gripped me from the start. The quiet dread of her situation builds beautifully, and you feel every ounce of her fear, resilience, and determination. The way Morris captures the small acts of defiance and the tiny sources of joy that can sustain someone through unimaginable circumstances was both heartbreaking and empowering.

The narration was pitch-perfect—every moment felt intimate and immediate. I could easily picture the shed, the jewelry, and the dangerous undercurrents running through Hannah’s life.

This is one of the standout stories in the Alibis collection, and a brilliant example of how short fiction can still deliver big impact. I would absolutely read a full novel about Hannah.

Love this story. One of my favorites from the Alibi collection. Wanda Morris left me wanting more. There was so much tension and suspense. You really felt for the FMC in this story. Hannah is a very likeable person and you want things to work out for her. She goes through some struggles however, I thoroughly enjoyed the ending. It’s hard to review and not spoil anything. Just know this is a must read.

Audiobook Review
🌟🌟🌟🌟
*Small Things* by Wanda M. Morris is a short story collection or novella, and an Amazon Original. This is book 6 in the *Alibis* series, a collection of stories about lies, truths, and deception. Hannah did what she had to do to protect her peace! That's all I'm going to say. I'm a girls' girl.

The audiobook is narrated by Susannah Jones, and she did a good job. I listened at 2x speed.

Thank you, NetGalley, and Brilliance Publishing for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Small Things by Wanda M. Morris is short story number six of six of Alibis, "a collection of stories about lies, truth, and deception. It’s just a matter of what you can get away with."

I know it might be outdated, but all I can say is "you go girl" to main character Hannah! This cleverly woven short story was full of suspense, and concluded with such a satisfying ending!

Susannah Jones sounded threatened, frightened, and accomplished during her audiobook narration - which was spot on!

This series features 60-ish page/1.5 hour-ish long books, and they're just the sort of story to slip into when you've got just a bit of spare time!

Thank you NetGalley, Brilliance Publishing and Amazon Original Stories for the complimentary audio copy to read and review.
