The Prologue did a fantastic job of setting up the relationship between Kent and Ivor as childhood playmates till Kent was sent away to learn to be a knight as a young child.
As a Guard of Six knight, Kent de Poyer protects Henry, King of England, and is the heir of the powerful Norman de Poyer family from Netherworld Castle. Ivor ap Yestin is one of the powerful warlords in southern Wales and becomes part of a war that Kent is sent to calm down and see what is true about the stories.
This story is filled with strong male characters who are knights, warriors and warlords and a plot that leads the reader on a discovery of what really happened.
Madelaina ferch Bryn is the daughter of the apothecary from the village of Penderyn and The Narth protects her village. She is a very social young lady wanting more from life but worried about the English armies.
When Kent poses as a Welsh traveler searching the village he meets Madelaina. And there the lies begin. Kent finds her attractive and sweet and she is mesmerized by him.
There is a lot of fighting and long-term secrets that rip Madelaina apart and trust is lost for all. I like how the author resolved this book, and I felt it was believable and well handled.
I give it 4 STARS for the well written ending.

Love is all around!
This is the story of Kent and Madelaina, which is an all-encompassing romance that expands to include the romances of other characters as well. I really enjoyed that aspect of the book, as it made all the characters feel so realistic.
Kent is one of the king's personal guards, but when one of the Welsh castles is taken over, Kent knows he has to intervene, not just on the king's behalf, but also because the displaced castle lord is one of his childhood friends.
Madelaina has her own complicated family history and carefully guarded secrets as well, making their interactions all the more intense because of the hidden layers in every connection.
I loved how these two balanced their attraction with their reservations, and how they allowed love to overcome it all eventually. They have a beautiful HEA with a very satisfying epilogue. As always, this author's writing is impeccable, creating an intricately detailed world that will make you feel as though you're right there in the 13th century alongside the characters. Everything by Ms Le Veque is captivating, and this one is right up there with her best.

This is one of the best stories I've read from Kathryn. I have read all of her books over the years. She is one of my top three favorite authors. I was so excited to see a new story! So many other authors could learn from her. There are many characters and they are interacting with each other all the time. I have stopped reading so many books where the whole story is from thoughts or angst inside someone's head. I am waiting for the Tempest in June. Thank you, Kathryn. I need to add to my review. This was really about two love stories. The Guard of Six are such a strong and resilient group. They are always there for each other, and as this story progresses they are able to share some of their stories with each other. These moments forge even stronger bonds, beyond duty and country. I could not put it down. I am a slow readers, so it took me awhile. I never wanted to see the title EPILOGE scroll up on my tablet. I am so glad she included the three men and their families, many authors have stopped doing this. We want to know what happened to them. We have invested hours in their stories, it's so nice to see the end.

Title: Insurrection: A Medieval Romance (Guard of Six)
Author: Kathryn Le Veque
My fellow readers I had such a wonderful time reading this extraordinary story. I’m still reminiscing over the most unforgettable moments. If you have a chance read this exquisite jewel. It has all the feel good tingles. The story for me is touching, emotional and extremely compassionate.
I was entertained for some hours. I found myself captivated by Kent and Madelaina’s love story, which by the way was pure love. Kent is a bit of a smooth talker. His dialogue explains it all. Mayhap that’s why Arthur has taken such a liking to his leg.
But Kent is a strong Knight who was born to be a leader. The best part for me is Bennett’s story. This was an emotional one for me. I may be a sap that cries during drama movies, but this part moved me. Bennetts journey takes the emotional and compassionate side of the story to a much higher respectable level.
A level of great honor, love and respect for a character or characters. I had a interesting time getting familiar with old and new characters (Knights and Warriors) marching under the same flag of King Henry. As I said before Kent is a smooth talker, as well has an honorable man and extraordinary Knight. A Knight who finds himself caught between the complexities of war. His only saving grace is his Madelaina, a strong young twenty year old woman whose will and determination no one can bend or brake.
I loved how the writer used her magical talent by adding in the love scenes with Madelaina once she changed and matured into an older woman. This was cleverly done. Other characters joined the march with Kent, but the one that stand out the most to me is Orion. If Monty (Orion) was my son?— I would have him mucking out the horses stalls everyday.
Not only that, but I would have Stefan standing right over him as he’s just itching for Monty to make a run for it. Poor Monty, not even Cheppy, the big Knight, who has been trained by the Blackchurch Guild can get you out of this one. Readers the writing is both exemplary, and compelling through the dialogue and narrative. There are some cute and comical moments that were very funny. I was delighted at how these moments popped up at the right time, some during the climatic highs in the book.
I found them to be most up lifting, it also makes your heart feel good right along with the characters. The writer tapped into my imagination and told me a story. Each chapter seemed so real. Down to the description of the flowers. My fellow readers I give this book two golden snaps and a twist.
Until the next time my fellow readers. Read on!

This second book in the Gaurds of Six series was an exciting and captivating, well written medieval historical romance. It had drama, battles, a murder plot, intrigue, secrets, emotional issues, and other twists that were very entertaining. I enjoyed the characters' growth and their powerful love. I highly recommend reading!

Another great read from Kathryn
This is a story of medieval period of Henry II in the troublesome Welsh borderlands
Two boys were friends one English and one Welsh then they were separated as one was sent to fostering. Then as adults they were reunited after the trials and tribulations of a battle between two armies but all ends well everybody is safe, well and finds their love partners.
As always this is a romance with a touch of drama and politics all rolled into one story.
I would give this book 5 atars

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Brilliant story from Kathryn as always, she never fails to deliver.
Full of love, angst, action packed and so many great characters, old and new.
I adore her books.
I recommend her to anyone looking for a little medieval romance.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Kent and Ivor's friendship as children was precious. I'm glad they got to know each other again in the story. The epilogue was excellent. I hope we eventually get Ivor's story.
Thank you to Dragonblade for the copy of this book. Opinions are my own.

A code of honor. It’s the basis of everything. How one lives one’s life. How one does one’s job. How one interacts with others. Follow Kent de Poyer of King Henry’s Guard of Six in medieval England as he unravels what happened to cause Treyton de Russe to raid a village and lay siege to the castle of The Narth in Wales. Expect unexpected twists and turns as all of the questions that Kent needs to resolve are answered.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was well paced and kept my attention. It made me feel I was in medieval England and Wales.
Any fan of medieval historical fiction would enjoy this book. I know that I will be finding more of Kathryn Le Veques books to read! Thank you to Dragonblade Publishing for providing this book and selecting me to review it on NetGalley. These are all my own opinions.

There absolutely nothing that I have ever read from this author that wasn't amazing, attention grabbing, fantastic, riveting and just plain phenomenal! And this story is no exception. Kent de Poyer is loyal to the king, who sends him on a mission. The mission takes him back to his roots in Wales and to the lovely Madelaina. While that presents it own issues, the rest of the tale spinning the reader around and around like a tea cup to keep you just enough off balance but with a thrilling sense all the way until the end. Fasted paced, complex, suspenseful and more. Don't ever miss out of these tales.

A Romantic Adventure of Loyalty, Deception, and Love on the Welsh Marches
This medieval romance blends intrigue, action, and emotional stakes in a world where oaths are made young—and tested in adulthood. English knight Kent de Poyer is sent to the Welsh borderlands to manage a volatile situation. Years ago, he vowed never to fight his childhood friend, now on the opposite side of a rising conflict. To uncover the truth and find his old friend, Kent pretends to be a Welshman and questions Madelaina, the apothecary’s daughter. He never expects their growing connection to complicate everything.
The deeper Kent goes, the harder it becomes to balance duty and desire, especially as secrets threaten to unravel around them. Loyalties are tested, truths are buried, and just when I thought I understood the stakes, a twist left me reeling.
This story kept me turning the pages with its layered characters, political tension, and romantic pull. I recommend it to those who enjoy medieval romance where nothing is simple, loyalty runs deep, and the battle for love is never easy.

In Insurrection we meet Kent de Poyer, one of Henry’s elite guards. Once again there is trouble on the Welsh border and Kent is tasked with getting to the bottom of the unrest. As he spies among the villagers he meets Madelaina, the daughter of the apothecary. Will their love survive the lies and turmoil surrounding them?
What I liked: I enjoyed the fresh set of characters. I haven’t read the first book so it was nice meeting all new characters, while still reading how they connect to some of my old favorites. I also enjoyed the brotherhood and friendships in the story and the glimpse of it continuing for the next generations. The story provides a good setup for the rest of the series. I’m very intrigued to see what happens to the side characters who will hopefully have their own story to tell.
What I didn’t like: There was not as much romance as we typically get. I would have liked more time with Kent and Madelaina as they explored their feelings for each other.
Enjoyed the brotherhood and friendship seen - and the glimpse of it continuing for the next generations
Favorite Quote: “days move slowly but the years move quickly”
Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade for providing an ARC of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed it; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a medieval adventure /romance set on the border between England and Wales. Our hero was born there and often played with a boy who might, one day fight on the opposite side of a battle. Years later he and his fellow knights get sent to the area by the King to sort out a problem.
Will our hero be able to help, or will he just make it worse??
I will read anything from this author because she never disappoints me. Her books are always packed with wonderful characters, lots of adventures and steamy romance. This book certainly lives up to expectations. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. I loved every page.

Even though I give this review 5*, I was a little disappointed. Yes, Insurrection was mentioned several times, but only in passing. I want to know how de Poyer came up with the name and how he wields it! I was glad to see a few Welsh words used in the story, it made it seem more authentic. A good story and worth the read!

Prepare for intrigue and secrets as King Henry sends Kent from the Guard of Six to a castle that has been captured.
Diplomacy is the key to resolving the underlying issues.
During a reconnaissance mission into the village by the castle, Kent meets Madelaina
He rethinks his plan never to marry.
Skirmishes and action are challenging for all participants.
A secondary love story adds to the tensions.

Insurrection by Kathryn Le Veque is her newest story featuring the Guard of Six, Henry’s elite guard. In this story, Kent de Poyer, with a sword called Insurrection, has been called as part of a contingent to take a Welsh castle that has recently been won by a Marcher family, de Russe, in vengeance against a supposed attack on his sister. His army had found piece of her jewelry available for sale in the small town adjacent to the castle so he felt justified. The Welsh prince who had been ousted knew nothing of the attack and had plans to return to his castle and retake it for the Welsh. Because Kent had a Welsh nanny, he spoke Welsh fluently so he entered the town of Penderyn to do some reconnaissance. There he met a young, friendly woman named Madelaina who was the daughter of the town apothecary known as The Byrn, s ho had a story of his own. She moved him as no woman had ever before and he kept returning to see her. The younger de Russe was adamant that the Welsh lord, Ivor, must be guilty and punished and so took his men into town to see to it.
De Poyer is 35 or so years old and felt he was far too old for Madelaina. That didn’t stop him, however. Madelaina is charming and intelligent and so beautiful he sees starts. There is so much more to this story than can be summarized. It moves away from most of Le Veque’s novels in that Madelaina is a “commoner.” The setting in the Marches and the friendship between Kent and Ivor makes for a nice change of pace. The tendency for a son to run off half-cocked is a somewhat common theme. The Guard of Six angle is not really in the forefront and the addition of an extraneous character, Orion, makes me wonder what his importance will be in a later novel. All in all, a fine example of Le Veque’s unique and wonderful storytelling skills.
I as invited to read Insurrection by Dragonblade. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #KathrynLeVeque #Insurrection

Kent de Poyer's loyalty to the king and the Guard of Six is severely tested in this novel when it comes into conflict with a childhood vow made to his best childhood friend. It almost seemed impossible to wade through the troubled waters caused by an impulsive knight out for revenge, whether or not his victims deserve it. However, there is more to the story than Kent first thought, especially when he comes face to face with Madelaina and her quirky hound. The novel is fast-paced, romantic, and suspenseful, especially when tempers are aroused and orders are ignored in a fury of bloodlust. The mayhem caused is even more appalling when the truth is eventually revealed. However, more than one relationship is healed, and there are new beginnings for the knights and their ladies. I received a copy of this exciting romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Mystery, Brawls, Camaradery, Surprises:
Book two of the series is very intriguing story where these elite men are on a espionage mission for the king.
The story takes us into a deeply complex story where the author shares much of the history behind the characters, so it made it easy to follow the characters and the plot.
I truly enjoyed all of the characters that made this a very interesting read.
Kent and Madelaina are the main focus, and their attraction is quite evident but with much reservation at the same time.
Conflicts between the men make things very difficult at times and also very heartwarming.
This is an emotional story with more than one scenario between the characters with many heartwarming confessions that bring the characters into the light and bring the story to a happy ending.
An intriguing story that I was totally captivated by.

This author has never disappointed me and I loved everything about this story. It has everything: danger, secrets, old friends and a new found romance. Kent and Madelaina are two great characters that I fell in love with from the very beginning. They eventually get their HEA but there are a few bumps along the way. This is a story that I would highly recommend as a great read.
There were several surprises but to me, the most intriguing one involved Celyn and Bennet.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and are voluntarily leaving a review.
