I thought this was an okay overview of cybersecurity for someone who has no or very little background to start with, or for someone without any technical background. It is a very general overview and it uses some old terminology, but would give someone trying to decide if they were interested in cybersecurity enough to decide if it piques their interest. I didn’t find this book to be particularly attention-grabbing or a stand-out, and it is a bit of a drag to get through - even as someone in the industry.

This work is well written and informative; however, nothing really grabs me that would make me want to purchase this book over the other hundreds of books regarding 'Intro to Cybersecurity'. The author uses some older language that has been deprecated, such as Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) was updated to Adversary-in-the-Middle (AitM) or Machine-in-the-Middle. The penetration testing process feels a bit inaccurate and I find the HTB portrayal a little more accurate because we jump around a bit.
Likes: This book covered a variety of topics that could be useful to professionals who need to run assessments to ensure they are in compliance. The chart regarding common cybersecurity risks would be beneficial to this group as well. It would also be useful for anyone interested in the field and considering whether they should pursue a career in cybersecurity. I also appreciated that this book covered topics that I was not 100% familiar with and terms I've never heard before, even working in the field.
Dislikes: The quiz pages are difficult to read. The Netgally reader may make them appear white on cream. I also really hate the plaid at the top of the chapter pages. Sorry, but it was distracting. There aren't a lot of engaging photos.
