I really enjoyed this as a concept and thought it was a fantastic opener to the Roll for Danger series. I enjoyed that I was a part of the story and was able to change where the story was going. It has multiple readability with the decide your fate element. I enjoyed getting to know these characters and how the story worked with them. Overall this was such a great read and was able to be a part of the storyline. Nick Eliopulos writes a great storyline and characters and can't wait for more from him.

This book was fantastic! I used it as a read-aloud adventure and had my team vote on what Seth should do next. I really hope there will be more books like this!!

"Roll for Danger: The Cursed Catacombs" is a dice-rolling choose your path middle grade book written by Nick Eliopulos and illustrated by Ethan M. Aldridge. You are Seth, an apprentice to a powerful wizard. The wizard sends you out to get an ingredient for a spell. Along the way you get to roll a die (a traditional 6-sided one, which hopefully readers can borrow from a game at home) to decide where you go in the story. This is a fun, basic introduction to a dice-rolling rpg with logic puzzles along the way. There is a chess puzzle that some readers may find tricky, but most of the book is fairly straightforward. I look forward to seeing the final illustrations by Aldridge. A suggested purchase for middle grade fantasy collections, especially where D and D books are popular.

Choose your own adventure meets TTRPG!
In Roll for Danger, the narrator guides you through creating a character sheet before diving into the world of Seth, mage's apprentice. Throughout, you & your dice rolls will make decisions that determine where Seth's story goes, leading to some clever puzzles and the ultimate boss fight. This is a perfect introduction to tweens interested in DnD & other TTRPGs that allows them to dive into role play even if they haven't formed their first party. If purchasing for a library, I would recommend considering how to handle the character sheet & other manipulatives, or else you'll have LOTS of pen & pencil marks to deal with.
