I was not expecting to hear about the toilet troubles our main character was having......
That was quite the surprise.
Im not sure this was my cup of tea if im honest... one of the MMC was constantly calling women sluts and that just rubbed me the wrong way. like im sorry am i supposed to like this man??
The world building was not great and i really wish there was a bit more and it was paced properly.
Not my favorite but not the worst thing ive read.

5 Stars!!!

I absolutely devoured this. After Blood of Hercules (which I loved), I had high expectations, and Jasmine Mas delivered again. This book is chaotic, intense, a little unhinged, and I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between the characters is wild, and the darker elements are written so well. It’s fast-paced, messy in all the right ways, and exactly what I needed. Jasmine Mas is quickly becoming a go-to author for me.

This one had an interesting concept and some unique world-building that caught my attention, especially if you’re into paranormal romance with a twist. The plot moved at a decent pace, and there were moments of genuine tension and intrigue.

That said, I struggled a bit with the character development—some felt a bit one-dimensional or rushed. The romance was there, but it didn’t quite grab me emotionally. Also, a few plot points felt predictable or underexplored.

Overall, it was an okay read—fun in parts but didn’t fully deliver on the potential. If you’re a big fan of the genre, it might be worth checking out

As a very vocal lover of Blood of Hercules, I of course had to start working my way through Jasmine Mas’s backlog and I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner. While some elements felt similar to Blood of Hercules, a lot of this was pretty unique and made this stand out from other shifter books on my shelves. That mixed with some (a lot) of bullying and some sarcastic humor made this hard to put down.

These beasts are brutal and slightly terrifying, but you won’t be able to help but swoon at their protective instincts around Sadie. Watching them slowly soften up to her makes them just lovable enough to look past the many red flags these shifters are throwing.

The ending sent this story into a direction I never saw coming, and put a bit of a pit in my stomach BUT I trust that things will be made right. Hopefully. Please.

The story felt slow with not much momentum or buildup of mystery. I was hoping for more development in the characters, their world, motivations, and relationships beyond just physical descriptions. There are cool elements like different realms, creatures, magic, and politics, but they aren’t really explored in depth. No one seems to question much of anything, which made the story feel a bit flat and less engaging than it could have been.

Amazing. No notes. Perfection.
Love this why choose! (Because seriously I could not choose between them if you paid me)
This book isn’t even out yet and I’m waiting on the edge of my seat for book two- it was that good!! I ate up the whole thing in one sitting.

This had potential—dark vibes, hot shifters—but it felt too chaotic and rushed. I couldn’t connect with the characters, and the romance moved way too fast. Just not for me.

Alpha deliciousness. Is it just me or does Jasmine Mas write male characters that have us swoon. I was entertained from the beginning. It was emotional, it was full of action and blood with that spice that makes one blush. I would definitely love to see where this story is going.

“Psycho Shifters” by Jasmine Mas is a fantasy novel centered on Sadie, a lowly servant who discovers she is, in fact, an Alpha—a top-level shifter with immense potential. Taken to an outpost tasked with guarding a portal to the Fae lands, Sadie finds herself in the company of three other shifters: Jax, Cobra, and Ascher. While the premise holds promise for intrigue, adventure, and character growth, I found the book deeply unsatisfactory in execution.

The concept of the book is intriguing at its core. A servant discovering her hidden, powerful identity is a classic fantasy trope that, when done well, can lead to a transformative journey filled with self-discovery, action, and emotional depth.

Unfortunately, the potential of this premise is squandered. The book fails to balance the development of its characters, plot, and world-building. What could have been a richly layered fantasy feels instead like a superficial story bogged down by repetitive writing and underwhelming execution.

The writing style in “Psycho Shifters” comes across as juvenile and unrefined, making it difficult to immerse oneself in the story. This is particularly evident in Sadie's inner monologues, which are often awkward and cringeworthy. Rather than offering insight into her thoughts or emotional landscape, these dialogues feel tedious and repetitive.

One of the most glaring issues in the prose is the overuse of certain words, which creates an impression of laziness and lack of variety. For example, the word “hideous” is used 11 times, “massive” appears 111 times, “large” is repeated 118 times, and “little” is used a staggering 177 times. These repetitions detract from the reading experience, making the text feel monotonous and amateurish.

Sadie, the protagonist, struggles to evolve beyond the archetype of a downtrodden heroine who lacks confidence. While her newfound status as an Alpha could have opened avenues for character growth, the portrayal of her self-perception is frustratingly one-dimensional. Sadie's repeated self-deprecation, where she views herself as "small and hideous," becomes tiresome, especially when contrasted with the incessant reminders of how "huge and gorgeous" the other Alphas are. This dynamic not only diminishes Sadie’s relatability but also perpetuates a shallow lens through which the characters are viewed.

The supporting characters, Jax, Cobra, and Ascher, are likewise underdeveloped. Each of them seems to fall into predictable tropes, and their interactions fail to add depth to the story. Of particular concern is Ascher, whose point of view is riddled with misogynistic undertones. His frequent derogatory references to women as "sluts" (the word is used 18 times in the book) are not only offensive but also detract from any potential complexity his character might have had. Instead of contributing to the plot or providing meaningful conflict, these perspectives serve only to alienate readers.

Overall, “Psycho Shifters” by Jasmine Mas feels like a missed opportunity. While the premise had the potential to deliver an enthralling fantasy tale, the execution falls short in almost every aspect. The writing is repetitive, the characters are underwhelming, and the plot lacks direction. The misogynistic overtones in Ascher's point of view further mar the reading experience, making it difficult to recommend this book to anyone.

For readers seeking a fantasy novel with compelling characters, engaging prose, and a strong plot, there are far better options available.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was so excited to read this one after how much I loved Blood of Hercules and Jasmine Mas's writing style. Her characters have hilarious inner dialogue that adds another layer to the story line. In this book our main character Sadie is an unassuming, petite female who is actually an alpha in a world of shifters. After being abused for years, she is taken to a training facility/war camp where she encounters the other three alphas who run it, Jax, Cobra and Ascher. The men assume from her appearance that she is lying and a spy. Having to prove herself again and again, Sadie uses the Numb that she developed in her abusive childhood to help her fight off people five times her size. When battle comes and her shifter form is shown, the men finally start to see her for what she is, and start to think of her as their possession which creates a whole different issue. This book has mentions of child abuse, sexual assault, and other violence, please read triggers accordingly. Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for giving me the opportunity to read and review this publication.

🌟 4/5 Stars – A Wild Ride Through the Shifterverse

Psycho Shifters is a journey into a world where shifters reign and chaos is the norm. The multiple narrators and shifting POVs of this audio add a dynamic layer to the storytelling, keeping me engaged throughout. If you enjoyed Blood of Hercules, this book offers a similarly unhinged adventure, swapping gods for shifters.

The FMC is not standout, typical 20 year old that's special, but it was fun. This is a guilty pleasure and most definitely a dark fantasy, I didn't take it too seriously. I found myself eager to see where the story would lead. The narrative's intensity and the complex relationships between characters kept me hooked, and I'm looking forward to diving into book 2.

Pretty wild and crazy and spicy - everything the description said. It's clearly the first in a series and there are a lot of unanswered questions that will, hopefully, be answered as the series continues. It was a great start!

Oh this was excellent! The tension, the badass FMC, THE MEN! I loved every single thing about this book and could not put it down! This is paranormal why choose at its finest!

Thank you for the ARC copy! I had actually already read this series on Kindle Unlimited a long time ago. So long that I forgot I had ever read it and had to go back and look. This was literally such a fun read.

unfortunately this book continues to be mysoginistic, transphobic and feeds into the stigma around mental illness. I absolutely do not recommend it. I thought it would have been reworked but I guess not! the writing was just so bad. the characters are unlikable and two dimensional and predictable and misogynist and boring at best.

Psycho Shifters is a story about Sadie, a servant girl who doesn’t believe herself to be much of anything in the world. Suffering from abuse by a man that took her and her sister in when they were kids, she becomes a numb and violent adult. Until the day that she is taken to the sacred lake, and is determined to be the first female Alpha. Forced to join an Alpha training camp, she faces the three other male Alphas who don’t believe that she is untrained.

This was a quick read, with an interesting enough plot but I found it severely lacking where the characters come in to play. Each character is severely underdeveloped, and frankly, are terrible. Usually I enjoy at the very least one character in a story, but I didn’t enjoy any of them. They are all assholes, including our main character Sadie who is “not like the other girls”. I also was quickly over the fact that her “small, weak” size was constantly mentioned paired with how big and muscly the male alphas were. And that they kept calling her a “little girl” or “little alpha”.

Overall, this one was just not for me. I am definitely interested in where the plot goes with the fae queen and the betrayal at the end of the book, but not enough to continue with the series.

Thank you to Jasmin Mas, Harlequin Trade Publishing | Canary Street Press and NetGalley for the early E-Arc of Psycho Shifters, available at the end of June!

The premise is intriguing, there's a lot of world building to be expanded upon, and a lot of character development to be seen. Overall I liked Sadie and the big reveal of who her bestie actually is and what they're not caught me off guard and was an unexpected reveal. I was very surprised at how slow the burn is for a RH book. Overall I'm left with a lot of questions but my interest is piqued and I'll definitely continue with the series.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to read an ARC!

Book 1 in the Cruel Shifterverse series

This book is absolutely pathological in how addictive it is. I couldn't put this down, nor did I want to. I was a willing captive to Ms. Mas' powerfully compelling words. I completely understand how people become spellbound by this series. If you are a lover of reverse harem or why choose ABO (Alpha/Beta/Omega) paranormal romances, then I definitely recommend this series. I absolutely will be continuing this series. I have to know what happens next! Read, enjoy, and hold on as you join Sadie on this wild and crazy ride.

Sadie is our strong and tenacious FMC. Sadie and her younger sister, Lucinda, are orphans and nulls who have belonged to a beta named Dick for years. Unfortunately, Dick isn't a good person and routinely beats Sadie the whole time she's a servant. At twenty Sadie is taken to a sacred lake that telegraphs what a being actually is- an alpha, beta, or a null. The lake gave an interesting answer. Sadie is labeled an alpha and dropped off outside of the compound that protects the third portal of the realm. Here is where we meet the portal's alphas: Jax, Ascher, and Cobra, who are the MMCs. This is definitely an enemies to lovers story. The MMCs don't know anything about Sadie's history and are disappointed that not only is their new alpha is untrained, but also tiny. As Sadie is trained she learns more about the world and the mysterious alphas she now has to bunk with.

Now, while this book is extremely easily to get sucked into and binge, there were things that I, personally, felt repetitive. Such as Sadie being described as small, tiny, petite, etc. After the third time it became a little much. We got it, she's a small, tiny, girl. The other thing that I was sad was missing was the spicy times between Sadie and her fellow alphas. Now, don't get me wrong. There is a ton of delicious tension and two of the alphas are a couple that we get to see together. (Yumm) And we do get to see a very short spicy scene with Sadie and one alpha at the end of the book, I was just yearning for more. But, the great thing is that this is a series and we're going to have plenty of time for heat, spice, and our main characters to get to know each other and fall in love. :o)
