A book for action movie lovers. Reece is a hired monster hunter who gets tasked with retrieving a little girl, all with a new partner she knows nothing about. As the mission progresses, unexpected conspiracies and complications arise and Reece must revise her plan and learn to trust others, then herself...
I had very high hopes after seeing the summary, but sadly, it didn't deliver for me. The lack of description and mainly leaning on the dialogue were what had initially discouraged me. But I understand that for some, it might be a winning point. Another thing that bothered me a lot was the lack of overall depth of characters. They felt like stereotypes of what a security firm employee, government agent, a tech guy or a badass chick would look like. Firstly, I have to say I hated Reece (a very strong word I know, but she had no redeeming qualities at all), she is rude for no reason to everyone and everything, uses harsh language every time she speaks and has no depth of emotion. In short, it felt like a 2D action movie character, she had the best fighting skills, the best hunting streak, the best aim... You can see where I'm going with this by now.. And her tragic past was not enough to cover for her lack of social skills. Even when met with others whom she was supposedly close to, it felt flat.
Secondly, I have to mention "forgetting" of, almost exclusively, a 6-year-old Maelie in scenes. There have been several instances where the girl's presence was forgotten in the room/car. Events were happening, things were blowing up, and Maelie had no input on them, and she was the best-written character.

TL/DR: The summary has you interested. Now you are reading reviews. In my opinion this is a great start to a new series with interesting characters, a lot of action and some laughs along the way. My advice. Get the book.
OK, so first off let me say I am very excited that this is the first book in a series. I loved the world building; the irreverent, strong FMC, Reece; her new partner, MMC, Devon and all the hints at her history, her relationship with her boss (not like that) and then probably my two favorite characters in the book, Maelie and her cat, Aliester Meowly (Alie-cat).
Reece likes to work alone, has trust issues and a few dead partners (hoping to find out more about that in the series). Her new parter, Devon, is also new to the agency, Hunter’s Inc. They are contracted out for various jobs and use, well, not exactly above the law methods.
Enter their job to get Maelie and fulfill the contact. What should be easy, a “milk run”. Turns out to be anything but, unfortunately saying anything more would include spoilers.
What I can tell you is this book is nothing like I thought it would be and was so much more than I could have ever imagined. I loved it and read it in one sitting. You know the whole “one more chapter” thing? Yeah. It got me.
If you like incredible world building, an interesting storyline, unexpected characters and some laugh out loud moments, this may just be a book you will enjoy as much as I did.
I would like to thank the authors, Paige Andrews and Percival Constantine; Sterling & Stone Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and my review is voluntarily given. As always, I wish you happy reading!

At first read I thought it was so strange these hunters literally kidnapped a child named Maelie, a mythborn from her foster home along with her cat Aleister Meowly as part of their mission. You find out later on why and what magic abilities she possesses without spoiling too much.
On this road trip with the hunters Reece & Devon hired by Hunters Inc. Someone is chasing after them and they have their enchantments come into play during the battles.
This ebook was a fun read, with funny one liners and my favourite part was when Maelie discovered the f*word haha. This book reminds me of Stranger Things with Eleven and ends in somewhat of a cliffhanger.

It took me about a chapter to really get into the pacing of this story, but then we hit our stride and it was go-go-go until the end.
Reece is a grump in every sense of the word and I’m here for every moment as she slowly softens for the kid-supernatural she’s charged with transporting and a new partner who’s definitely giving off brawn—over-brain energy. I was cackling at this trio’s dynamics. Then, there’s the cat. No spoilers, but this cat is so much. Love him!
Percival and Paige have a seamless shared voice and it makes for a boss collaboration. Also, getting back to the pacing, there’s a moment where chapter 13 ends and 14 begins that was the best delivery in the entire book for me. These authors had me in the palms of their hands.
There were a few times where it felt like I was reading a recitation of facts and I could’ve used a little more description/emotion, but at other points that style really helped maintain the high energy the scene needed.
I laughed, got mad, and cried. So I’m def excited for the next book!
Note: I rate my stories based on level of enjoyment. Does this mean a story is perfect? No, but it means I fully escaped into it and had a good time doing so.

The 1st book in the Chaos Caretaker series, and it's a winner. Paige Andrews and Percival Constantine introduce us to unique characters who are sure to find themselves in difficult circumstances while just trying to get from point A to point B in one piece. Reece O'Dell proves herself capable of facing any challenges in the completion of her missions. Even when her mission includes a changeling child and a new partner who is a bit too cheery for her. Andrews leaves many story threads open to build upon in the following books. I'll be following to see where Reece and her friends go next.

It's a good thing I like grouchy women characters, because Reece O'Dell is about a foot over the border into mean territory. Girl is a bit much.
With that said, I also found her hilarious. Her new partner, Devon, was a great foil for her since he was an all-around good guy. The development of their partnership was something I really enjoyed.
The development of her relationship with Maelie was also a treat, especially at the beginning when Reece was so clueless about how to handle a child. Should I mention Maelie's cat? Why yes, there is a cat that plays an important part in the book.
The plot wasn't as simple as I first thought, and I enjoyed the reveals along the way. There was plenty of action, and the world building kept me intrigued. The more I learned about the mythborn, the more I wanted to know. The same could be said for Reece and Devon's backgrounds. We got a few nuggets of info, but I'm so interested in finding out more.
The ending is a cliffhanger, and a surprising one. The next book is going to be fun!
