A beautiful story about a young boy learning to navigate life as a medium while still grieving the loss of his favorite person, his auntie. Being able to connect with spirits sounds like a gift, but for him, it’s a journey filled with confusion, comfort, and learning how to let go while still holding on to love. I loved the message that shows us the ones we love never truly leave us. Perfect for young readers who’ve experienced loss or are just looking for a heartfelt story about connection, healing, and growing into your gift

This book was not quite what I expected, but that was not necessarily a bad thing. I went into this thinking it would be a fun story about kids investigating ghosts (or at least what they think are ghosts). But this story actually had a lot of layers - grief/loss, making new friends, navigating disagreements with friends, and handling a situation that was not what it seemed. Clem was a bit much as a character for much of the story - big personality, little self-awareness. I liked Gabe's full belief in his paranormal abilities and felt bad for him when he discovered the truth. There were not a lot of bumps-in-the-night kind of moments which means this is definitely not too scary for younger readers.

This book is a really great read for kids or teenagers who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. It explores grief through the eyes of the main character, who is struggling after the death of his aunt. Before she passed, he believes he saw a ghost, which gave him a unique way to feel connected to her. After her passing, he begins searching for her ghost and ends up making a new friend along the way. As things spiral out of control, he and his mom are finally able to connect and start the healing process together. It's a heartfelt and emotional story that handles loss in a thoughtful, relatable way.

This was a super cute graphic novel with a powerful message about grief. I really enjoyed the design of the characters and the panels. A lot came across. It was all very clear and had a somewhat whimsical vibe to the overall design. The story was well written, and I really enjoyed the journey that the characters went on. I would definitely read more in this series.

Kids read it on day. They really enjoyed it. They asked if there would be any more. I asked them what they enjoyed and they said the characters where funny.

This is a book about a boy who discovers that he has the ability to see ghosts at a young age. It depicts a world in which ghosts and humans co-exist. It is funny at times and suspenseful at others. I love the way the dialogues are not as wordy as some other graphic novels, making it more authentic. (We do not talk like we are giving out lectures in everyday life...) It will surely be a hit among children.

This was such a heartwarming story. Navigating throughout a time in Gabe’s life that was filled with so much grief. While finding a friend in Clem along the way! This is an emotional ride and I couldn’t recommend it more!

KT Healey's Psychic Investigators, Evil Exterminators plunges readers into a thrilling world where the supernatural is not just real, but a daily part of a unique team's job. Without revealing any plot points, this book masterfully blends elements of mystery, action, and the paranormal into an engaging narrative that keeps you guessing.

Healey's writing is sharp and evocative, creating a vivid atmosphere that makes the supernatural threats feel genuinely menacing, while also injecting moments of surprising humor. The characters are a definite highlight; each member of the "Evil Exterminators" brings their own distinct personality and psychic ability to the table, leading to dynamic interactions and unexpected challenges. Their individual quirks and collective chemistry are a joy to follow.

The pacing is relentless, with one intriguing case leading to another, each building on the last to create a larger, compelling story arc. The author excels at crafting suspense and weaving intricate puzzles that the investigators must unravel, often relying on their unique gifts in clever and unforeseen ways.

If you're a fan of urban fantasy, detective stories with a twist, or just a good old-fashioned battle against malevolent forces, Psychic Investigators, Evil Exterminators is a must-read. It's an exciting, well-crafted adventure that promises a wild ride without giving anything away about the journey itself. Prepare to be entertained and perhaps a little spooked!

Such a great story. We follow a young boy as he loses his aunt and is grappling with the possibility of seeing her ghost as she was very spiritual and passed that on to her nephew. He then goes and participates in a detective club to try to find proof of ghosts.

I’m interested to see where the second book goes.

My rating: 3.75
Ever since a childhood encounter with a neighborhood ghost, Gabe Navarro believes the has the ability to speak with ghosts. When his exuberant classmate Clem finds out about Gabe’s abilities, she senses a business opportunity. After livestreaming their (unsuccessful) investigation into their middle school’s haunted shed, Gabe and Clem go viral.
Soon, Mel, another classmate, seeks their help with the ghost of her recently deceased grandmother. During the course of their investigation, Gabe reveals that his abilities as a medium may not be quite what he’s led everyone to believe.
Psychic Investigators, Evil Exterminators tackles grief in a realistic, age-appropriate way without losing the fast-paced fun of the kids’ ghost hunt. Gabe’s longing for his tía and Mel missing her grandmother are the emotional backbone of this graphic novel. KT Healy’s art style is at times chaotic – especially when Clem gets a new idea - which works well as a counterpoint to the sweeter moments. The tense moments and the emotional beats are handled with a light touch appropriate for middle grade readers.
I was let down by the lack of scares. I hoped for a bit more spookiness based on the title and the premise. So if you are looking for a graphic novel with chills to go along with the emotions, this may not be the book for you. But if you are looking for a cute, quick story about friendship and grieving, you can’t go wrong with this one.
Thank you to IDW Publishing and NetGalley for providing the e-arc for my honest review.
