The bard sings his next song sharing the tale of Adair and Bradana and the hurdles they overcome to stay together. The romance was sweet, the hurdles were tall, but these two characters just worked out.

Overall a decent read.

Unputdownable story

Adair touched my heart as the third son of the leader and lord of his Irish family, he didn’t have the prospects of his older brothers. Yet, when they both fail in a mission to bring their father lands he feels he is owed, Adair is entrusted with the task. When he arrives across the water to his Uncle and chief of the clan, he also meets Bradana. She is promised in a negotiated marriage to a man she has no interest in and a more than a little fear of. When Adair and Bradana meet, there is something otherworldly about how they connect. Their love of the lands they come from and the bond they share pulled me into this story, and I couldn’t put this book down.

This is the second book in the Ancient Songs series, and I love how we start in a great hall with a bard singing of a great love, then we are moved back in time. The characters are well-developed, and I loved the attention to detail regarding the time period. The battles are exciting and the intimate scenes between Adair and Bradana were beautiful and poignant. I couldn’t put this book down. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Adair sets out on a journey and mission for his father in this second book of the series. He is filled with doubts and struggles along the way. Adair isn't the greatest of warriors, as the third son, he is much more a lover of music, freedom and the land he loves. Being exiled until he completes his mission takes us on a long long tale. I liked the story yet often struggled with the length of it. 50+ chapters is too time consuming for my preferences of reading however this should not prohibit anyone from reading the well written beautiful saga of Adair and Bradana. It's a truly beautiful love story.

Ancient Scottish Historical Romantic Adventure
Adair travels to a wild kingdom in search of land—and unexpectedly finds love. But Bradana is already betrothed, setting the stage for an action-packed romantic adventure. The path to happiness won’t be easy, and danger looms as they fight for a future together.
The story started a bit slowly for me, but the intensity and emotion built beautifully as it progressed. By the end, I was fully swept up in the romance and stakes. If you enjoy ancient Scottish historical romance with a mix of danger and desire, this one’s worth a read.

This book was quite an experience. The characters did need more development, but the story made up in plot. High stakes romance that leads a man and a woman to risk their lives for each other? True sacrifices in times of clan land disputes? It was magnificent. In matters of setting, the land of Alba was so well-described that I could picture it and feel myself in those lush forests. Family aspects and a home away from home created a cozy, although dangerous ambiance that kept me on the edge of my seat. Other than that, there was too much repetition (phrases, thoughts, scenes going in circles) which made me think of it as cushion for the story.

I found this novel somewhat dreary and sad, as Adair is sent by his father to claim the land that belonged to his clan. When the enemy turns out to be family, the situation worsens. It seemed to me that Adair spent an inordinate amount of time recovering from the attacks on him, but finally, he and Bradana did survive to enjoy a future. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
