A sweet picture book about acceptance of what we love and family relationships.
We meet Holly who loves Halloween, only her dentist parents see it only for the tooth rotting sweets. Poor Holly is forbidden from trick or treating and spends every Halloween alone in her room, until she accidentally summons the spoops.
I love the cute illustrations throughout this book and the use of black and orange is very nostalgic of spooky books from the 90’s such as scary stories to tell in the dark.
The fun rhymes make this book all the more endearing however you get children may need help with some of the more complex language.
Thank you NetGalley and IDW publishing for this arc.

This was the cutest story ever! I loved the artwork throughout the book. Being an avid Halloween girl from a young age this reminded me so much of myself! The little spirts were done perfectly! I can't wait to pick up a final copy of this on release day!

Obsessed with everything about this book. I love the illustrations, the story, the vibe, I love it all. I cannot wait to read this to my daughter again in the fall. If you love cozy fall Halloween books, this is for you!

A cute and fun read. Good for kids who feel a little bit different from the others, or who are obsessed with a particular thing (like horses or dinosaurs).
The designs of the characters were cute, and I enjoyed the dentist parents and their amusing dislike of Halloween.
It's just a shame there weren't more of the titular spoops. They were so cute but weren't in the story for very long.

That was a lovely litte story with adorable art!
The little Spoops are cute and I love how they want to help make Halloween awesome. They were creative and picked up classic Halloween elements. I loved how they helped Holly experience that day because they bring Halloween to her.
I also like how the only colors are black and orange, classic Halloween colors that give just a little pop of color. Still the art always seemed expressive.
Only the rhyming was a little bit bumpy and threw me out of the reading experience. Often enough the words flowed and sang in my head but then there were verses that could have been better. Especially when parents read the story to their children I could imagine a interruption while reading out lout.

Artwork and Story cute, I enjoyed this book alot!
I felt alittle like Holly as I grew up!

A very cute and super well-illustrated children's story about Spoops, the magical spirits of Halloween. I loved the art style and design of the book itself, and the overall plot was cute (if not predictable). My one problem was that the poetic narrative itself didn't always flow super well when in terms of scansion and word choice. That being said, I would recommend it!
Thanks to IDW Publishing and NetGalley for the e-ARC; these opinions are my own and freely given.

Such spooky whimsy! This is a great rhyming read that will really get young readers-and adults- in the spirit! The artwork is so gorgeous, especially with the limited color palette. Really captures the season's vibes. I adored this and had a smile on my face the whole time i was reading! Thanks to NetGalley for the review copy.

Wow! I absolutely loved this!! The art style was cute, and the use of color was beautifully simple. The story was heartwarming. I'm going to buy this book for myself and read it with my kids every year!

I really enjoyed this book! The illustrations were fantastic. The black, white and orange tones perfectly captured the halloween spirit.
The Spoops were absolutely adorable and there plenty of them to enjoy! The story itself might follow a familiar theme - Halloween kid with dentist parents - But it was told really well. The rhyming highlighted the whimsical touch and made the story flow beatifully.

“We love the spoops! I love the owl one.”
“Makes me so excited for Halloween.”
My children absolutely loved this book and I did, too. We are, admittedly, likely the target audience for this one. We love celebrating Halloween and have created tons of our own family traditions around the holiday. Everything Holly (the main character) mentions, we enjoy together every year. This story feels like the classic Halloween stories we read as kids- the kinds you read over and over until your own children can finish the rhymes. The illustrations are intentionally nostalgic and reminiscent of the 80’s/90’s. It feels like an absolute gem. I’ve already pre-ordered my copy and will be buying some for friends.

In this book, Holly, a determined, Halloween-loving girl, makes a magical wish after her parents forbid all things Halloween. The Halloween Spirits called Spoops, in the form of classic halloween icons, helped make her Halloween dreams come true!
This is the cutest Halloween story! I feel like a lot of times seasonal books are often lacking in a good story, lore, and/or illustrations; but NOT HERE! The lore was cute and fun. The story was fun, inspiring, and sure to be a classic tale for years to come. The cutest illustrations that remind me of Halloweentown mixed with Eloise!
I can’t wait to share this book with my kids this year!! 🎃👻

This book warmed me like a cup of tea on a chilly autumn morning. It was charming and enchanting. There is a nostalgic element to the story with the rhyming and the illustrations. Both the writing and the art style reminded me of books I read as a child. They both have a very classic and vintage feel. The black and white art with pops of orange lend itself to the Halloween atmosphere, which also maintaining the nostalgic feeling. I thought it was brilliant. The concept of the Halloween spirits, the spoops, is adorable. I loved every single one. I think this could easily become a children’s classic. Spoops very much sound like an old folklore tale told to children. This would be a fantastic book to read to a class around Halloween. I could easily see an assignment where the students make their own spoops. I loved this so much. I will be purchasing my own copy upon release and recommending to everyone I know. The spoops are the perfect fairy godmothers for all those with a love for Halloween. If you relate to Marnie from Halloweentown, you’ll love this. The main character is very much a little Marnie.

What I loved: the 2-page spreads for the artwork—many scenes spread out across both pages in a visually pleasing manner. I loved the simple, clear color theme. I didn’t know this would be a book written in rhyming verse when I requested to review it, but I’m pleasantly surprised by this! Overall a cute feel-good story about a Halloween-obsessed and determined little girl, featuring gorgeous, beautifully-colored illustrations that will take you on a journey of Halloween fun wherever you’re at.

My son LOVED this one. It got him in the mood for Halloween. The illustrations reminded me a lot of the early 2000's and I mean that in the BEST way. It was so nostalgic and fun!

4.5 this was so damn cute. The illustrations are stunning. I bet they’re even more beautiful in person. The use of the orange was just lovely! It felt like a warm hug reading this. The rhyming was really impressive and flowed beautifully. Really have a lot of respect for both the author and illustrator!

this was the cutest freaking ARC i’ve ever read!!! i’ve been obsessed with halloween ever since i was a little girl, and i’ve always loved it a lot more than the rest of my family. reading this children’s book healed my inner-child and i’ll definitely be pre-ordering a copy for when i have my own kids one day. also, the illustrations were beautiful!!

This is the perfect book for all Halloween lovers in the world. It is our story, the ones who patiently wait for spooky season all year. Especially for our protagonist Holly Hollowell, who’s parents don’t believe in celebrating Halloween. Holly tries everything to convince them, as she sits in her bedroom she makes a wish to the crisp fall air and something magical is bound to happen.
I loved everything about this story, from the premise to the vintage looking illustrations. I’ll absolutely will be reading this every spooky season for years to come.
