What a lovely, cozy read! The name is adorable, with such a fun twist on the word "spoopy." The illustrations are magical, with a nostalgic style that will remind parents/older readers of kids books long ago. The characters were well thought out, with the main child being an easy child to identify with (especially for readers who feel drawn to Halloween). The story was easy to follow, and the rhyming scheme added a level of fun. Young and old readers are sure to enjoy this!

Thanks Netgalley for an advance copy if this book.
This was adorable! I really liked the story and the illustrations are absolutely beautiful :)

I loved this book about the spirits of Halloween. A girl who loves Halloween has to persuade her parents to enjoy the holiday too. The story is written in poem-form. The art is amazing and definitely adds to the story. If you love Halloween, you will love this book. I highly recommend it!

A lovely tale of Halloween; the illustrations are gorgeous and I could see this having been a favourite of mine as a child.

This was such a cute read!!! Perfect for Halloween and perfect for families to read together. The illustrations were beautiful! As a Halloween lover this made me smile and I loved it.

Spoops is a cute rhyming graphic novel about the joys of Halloween and feeling the freedom to express our differences. The main character, Holly Hollowell, is the daughter of Halloween-hating dentists who refuse to allow her to celebrate. Holly is obsessed with all things creepy and devises a plan to convince her parents to allow her to celebrate. When that doesn’t work, she makes a wish on a Jack-o-lantern, enlisting the help of the spoops, the sprits of Halloween.
With its soothing rhythm and inviting artwork, Spoops is a quick, fun holiday read. A few of the rhymes felt a bit forced to me, throwing off the rhythm, but not enough to harm my enjoyment. Ultimately, it is a lovely story about a family learning to be accepting of their differences. The art by Laurie A. Conley is appropriately ‘spoopy’, representing the cute little spoops using a color palette of only black and orange throughout.
Spoops is perfect for reading aloud at bedtime or to a classroom in October.
Thank you to IDW Publishing/Top Shelf and NetGalley for providing the e-arc for my honest review.

The illustrations are beautiful and the story was unique! I didn’t love the parents and thought they were acting childish, but other than that, I really enjoyed it!

Sweet and simple story about a little girl who loves Halloween but her parents won't let her celebrate. I loved the artwork with this book, it felt very nostalgic to the old classic Halloween decorations we would see in the 90's and the story had a very positive spin on the holiday. Where most books focus on the candy, this one focused on the fun.

"Spoops, The Little Spirits of Halloween," was a quick less then 10 min. read for me. The only "issue" I had with this book was it was labeled as a graphic novel and the description states, "presented in rhyming verse." There was a qick poem at the start, but the rest of this is pictures without any test. This is still cute and I can get a copy of this for my classroom for picture books and it would be great for story telling time. As a Halloween and spooky girl, the little Spoops or Haloween sprites are so cute, and can't wait for that time of year again.

I loved the colour palette of the pictures in the story.
In this story the little girl loves Halloween and wants to experience it but her parents are dentists and despise Halloween. But with a little bit of imagination and magic the little girl's wish comes true.
This will be a great read in the fall for October when the Community class comes one Fridays for a story and craft.

The illustrations, from the textures to the color choices, were perfect. The vibes were amazing, and I liked that (aside from buying a pumpkin), Holly didn’t disobey her parents outright. And the Spoops were adorable. The writing was okay, and the theme was a bit in your face. I’m not sure it was my favorite message for a picture book, but at the same time, if presented in the right way, it could be helpful to show how sometimes people just won’t understand something until they are ready to listen. And, again, the book is so pretty, and the Halloween aesthetics are top tier.

Spoops follows the story of a young girl Holly Hollowell whonis quite enthusiastic about all things Halloween. However her parents who are dentists by profession do not share her enthusiasm. They have always been abhorred to the idea of Halloween with all the sweets and trick and treats.
But this time, Holly is determined to convince her parents but will it be possible? With gorgeous illustrations and an amazing storyline, this book felt like a classic storybook that is well loved by all.
I had a great time reading this. The author has weaved in the magic of Halloween and the Halloween spirits creating the atmosphere of this festivity in an unique way definitely charmed me. It's heartwarming and beautifully written. The illustrations are absolutely amazing and they are visually delightful, I'm sure kids will love them too. Written in rhyming verses, Holly's love for Halloween will surely take you on a rollercoaster ride of curiosity and anticipation.

Such an adorable book! I love the cute spooky atmosphere and the illustrations. It's such a sweet way to embrace the spooky spirit. It's perfect to give the Halloween spirit to kids.

Spoops: The Little Spirits of Halloween is a with delightful illustrations and gentle frights, it captures the playful side of Halloween through the adventures of tiny ghostly creatures. It's a sweet, not-too-scary story that celebrates the magic of the season.

Holly Hollowell loves Halloween but unfortunately she has two dentists for parents - two dentists staunchly against everything Halloween.
LoCascio has put together a fun little rhyming story about a little girl who loves Halloween more than anything and just wants to share that love with everyone, especially her parents. She just wants them to accept her for who she is: a spoopy little girl with spoopy interests. It's a simple but sweet story about loving people for who they are, even if the things they like are different from the things you like, because that's ok.
The poetry gets a little try-hard at time with rhymes stretching here and there but it's overall an incredibly cute read. The art is where the story truly shines though, with the illustrations resembling those of the children's books from the past. It's mainly black and white with gorgeous pops of orange, and I just LOVED it.
I'm absolutely buying this for my shelves, to share with my niblings who are the perfect age to love this book.

Overall, it was a pretty good book. I definitely read it to my little one and it shows there is so much more to Halloween than just trick-or-treating and getting candy but so many other fun activities such as carving pumpkins rides and even just decorating and I’m glad the spoops helped Holly show her parents that.

i was always the kid who couldn’t sleep the night before halloween and felt more like me in spooky season than at any other time of year. it's hard when the people around you don't really get the obsession. that's what makes spoops so special.
this book feels like it was written for kids like i was, and for the grown-up versions of us who still feel a little left out when halloween is treated like an afterthought. holly's story captures that yearning so well. she's not after sugar, she's after magic. and with the help of the spoops, she gets it.
the rhyming verse is clever and warm, full of that classic read-aloud rhythm that makes it perfect for cozy october nights. the illustrations are gorgeous in a nostalgic, vintage-y way - black, white, and orange like an old halloween postcard brought to life. it feels like a book that could've existed decades ago, in the best possible sense.
this is a love letter to halloween, imagination, and all the kids (and adults) who feel most alive when things get a little spooky. i adored it.

This was an adorable little story about a girl who just wants to participate in Halloween but her dentist parents are against the holiday. I really enjoyed this, even though I am not a child, and found it very well illustrated. It was a captivating little story that I think any kid would enjoy.

I guess I am on a Summerween kick today! This one caught my eye because it is all about my favorite holiday, but then I was sold when I saw the illustrator is an artist whose ghostly work I have hanging in my home! I loved everything about this Halloween story (well, except the spiders, but I just looked away when they were featured. If you know me, you know.). The rhyming made this lyrical story fit the vibe of Christmas classics and I loved that creative choice. It was very fun and would be great to break out every Halloween or whenever you are feeling spooky. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

This is so cute! The art style is perfection and the story is fun and engaging. I really loved the Spoops and know my kids will too. Can’t wait to read this to them!
