A book that if I had children, I'd read this to them every Halloween. I'm a huge fan of Halloween, and it was endearing to see the dedication this child had to establish her own traditions during Halloween with her strict parents. The art was gorgeous and reminded me of classic children's book. I think the story is a tad bit younger for me, but families who love Halloween would enjoy this read!

Oh sweet Holly, your love for Halloween is going to make so many children feel seen.
This was such a lovely story about a girl who wasn’t allowed to celebrate Halloween due to her dentist parents, but thanks to the help of Halloween magic and the Spoops things turn around for the better. I can see a lot of parents reading this with their kids to get a change of heart for the greatest holiday of the year. Much like Holly, I also love Halloween more than anything.
This story was whimsically Halloweeny as to be expected as well as very heartwarming. I thought the illustrations were stunning too. I can see hanging up prints from this story in my home (year round of course).
The Halloweeny people are going to love this as much as I did!

Spoops is a cute story. The idea of little magical beings making wishes come true on Halloween makes a fun story. The illustrations are beautiful and the style suits the story well.

I loved this so much!!!!!! Holly is me, I am Holly. Such a cute story, that almost felt nostalgic to read even though I've never read any Halloween-based book like this before. I loved the art style with the only color being orange and some yellow. It scratched an itch in my brain. Will 100% be buying a physical copy when it comes out.
The only thing that stood out to me, and I don't know if it was just me but it seemed like the rhyme on page 5 "They whisper to your soul," doesn't finish. It ends with a comma, then starts a new rhyme on the following page.
Also, if they decide to make the little spoops, I would absolutely buy them all.

That was really good ! It was to me reminiscent of books I use to read as a child with only few text and a lot of illustrations. Speaking of Illustration, I LOVED the way it was made. It felt so much like my childhood only drawing and colouring the key elements. As for the story it was cute, the parent being anti-halloween because for them it is just about eating a ton of candy and having cavities and their daughter Holly being obsessed with Halloween trying to show them that it is much more than that.
As someone that lives in a country where Halloween is not really a thing I love consuming media with that cozy but spooky atmosphere that surround Halloween times. It was really fun !!

This was an enjoyable read. The illustrations were very cute—especially the spoops, which are absolutely adorable—and I really liked the color palette.
I recommend it to all Halloween lovers, young and old alike.

Thank you NetGalley! A classic rhyming style picture book about a young girl required to miss Halloween by her dentist parents. Holly, who’s favorite holiday is Halloween gets her dream come true by a wish on a pumpkin and fulfilled by Spoops. I’m probably overthinking this children’s book but although clever, and the illustrations only using black and orange as color, I found a few things disturbing. Parents leaving a small child alone, especially on a holiday. A child showing no respect in a graveyard. A child going to the store by herself to purchase the pumpkin and lighting the pumpkin (does say she carved with a plastic knife). Still a cute story in general which could expand a child’s vocabulary, but fell a bit short For me.

As someone who loves Halloween, this was darling!
Poor Holly, loves Halloween but her Dentist parents do not, and this has left Holly unable to celebrate Halloween for the last 9 years. But this year, her tenth she is determined to be different, and with the help of magic creatures called SPOOPS she ma just get her Halloween wish.
This book captures a charm that I've only experience when I read Halloween books when I was younger, books/movies like; the scary godmother, the great pumpkin, the pumpkin tree & more classics. I think this can add itself to the self with those titles.
Also the fact that is the book it notes that parents are people too and get things wrong, the acknowledgment that the adults were in the wrong is a excellent thing to show in books for kids.

I loved the illustration of this cute modern Halloween story which reminds me so much of my favorite childhood Halloween story, Popcorn by Frank Asch!

What an adorable little thing. It's the cutest thing I've read this month! I absolutely love it and want it!

This was such a lovely story. I loved the theme and the overall atmosphere. The spoops are such a creative way to grant a wish. I loved every second. What a great way to express self growth and understanding at the end.

Spoops is absolutely adorable! The illustrations are fantastic; clear, detailed, and fun. The style reminds me a lot of stories I grew up reading in Cricket magazines from the 70s. The rhyming is fun and fits in a lot of narrative. It could be a bit long to read out loud, but would also be so enjoyable. I think it’s a good book for readers moving up from picture books to longer or more detailed reading. Autumn is my favorite season, Halloween my favorite holiday, and LoCasio and Conley do a great job of capturing the spirited and spooky vibes. I can see this being a solid addition to public library collections, school libraries, and I look forward to sharing it with the kiddos in my own life!

All Holly wants is to be part of Halloween
Her parents say no, not allowing her to be seen
But when you wish upon a gourd
Little Spoops will take up the sword
They will fulfill Hollys wish
With a swoosh and a swish…
Ok, I’m not A.J. Locascio who has the rhyming down pat in this cute little spoopy book.
Holly has always been obsessed with Halloween (something that I can relate to). However, her parents, Dr. & Dr. Hollowell, are dentists and will not allow her to go trick or treat. Whilst her parents are away at a conference, she makes a wish on a pumpkin. Halloween spirits called Spoops make her wish come true. They deck out her house with Halloween love, attracted peers, and she was able to share in the Halloween trick or treat spirit by giving out pumpkins. Ultimately, her parents come home, and Holly gets to enjoy her favorite holiday with her family.
The illustrations are adorable. I want tattoos of all the little spoopy characters! The old rhyming mechanisms of childhood books are fantastic. Once this comes out, I’m getting it for all of my nieces and nephews!

This is the cutest little Halloween book. The illustrations are just beautiful & the story is cute & spooky! Will definitely invoke the Halloween spirit!

Those reminded me of the books and stories about Halloween I read as a kid, it feels classic and not commercial as so many these days now feel.

So much fun and so much whimsy!!! I can’t wait for this to be released so I have gift it to the little ones in my life. I loved it so much!

I received a free copy of, Spoops: The Little Spirits of Halloween, by A.J. Locascio, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Holly Howell loves Halloween, her parents not so much. Spoops are Halloween spirits, Holly's wish to celebrate Halloween is sent to the spoops. This is such a sweet Halloween story, I loved the illustrations in this book, Halloween and autumn are a great time of the year.

Just too flippin' cute are the Spoops!
This is a tale about a young child named Holly who really loves Halloween. However, her parents are against the idea of Holly participating in this much-loved festivity.
On the very first page I saw some magical little creepy cute-ies, the second page I discovered the story is told in a fun and whimsical verse. I knew I was in for a treat.
The colours of the illustrations are limited black/white/grey, and orange/yellow are perfect for this book.
Would be a fun book to read to kids or as a family on All Hallows' Eve.
I have a favourite Spoop, I wonder who yours would be?

As someone who loves Halloween and anything spooky this was absolute perfection!
The artwork throughout this was beautiful! The little Spoops were absolutely adorable and really drew me in as a reader.
The story was so much fun and would be absolutely perfect in the build up to Halloween and I can picture it really catching the imagination of little readers.
Overalls really fantastic read that as a bookseller I'll definitely be recommending to anyone looking for something, fun spooky and creative!

My Halloween-loving heart is obsessed with the cute little Spoops! The illustrations and limited color palette really added to the seasonal magic of the book, and the overall message was heartwarming!
