This book is so beautiful. A fun, Halloween read which also has the best illustrations and a lovely message for young and old.
If you love Halloween, no matter your age, you need to read this little book.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC

This was so charming! A wonderfully spooky and sweet story told in verse. The art style works so well, almost nostalgic. A toned down, cute Gorey-eqsue kind of vibe. Kid friendly but with wonderful attention to detail and colour. The little spoops are adorable. Really recommend this for anyone with kids and even adults who love halloween!

This was a fun and whimsical read that I'm sure would captivate the attention of any child who loves Halloween.

#ad I received this book for free as an arc
This is a really sweet Halloweeny book, that I can see becoming a family classic. It’s one I see myself reading to future children. At times the rhyming couplets sort of needed an American accent so you’d have to reread to hear the rhyme. I really liked the art style and it really suited both the writing and story, I loved the colour palette and how colour is used to give emotion.

So cute! I love the Spoops characters, and could see them come to life as plushies or collectibles! I was a spooky kid so this pulled on my heartstrings. The illustrations were also perfect, and subtle. The cheery orange that was added to the parents cheeks at the end when they got the spirit was perfection. Will be buying a physical for my own home shelves!

Spoops: The Little Spirits of Halloween resembles a children’s book from the first half of 20th century, but it’s actually a brand-new work by A.J. Locascio and Laurie A. Conley. A pair of married dentists bemoan Halloween as an assault on children’s teeth, but their 9-year-old daughter Holly Hollowell loves Halloween and everything spooky. Holly longs to go trick-or-treating like everyone else. When some tiny magical beings intervene, young readers will thoroughly enjoy those cute Spoops! And their solution is right out of the box.
This delightful throwback is destined to become a children’s classic, bound to be enjoyed by generations of children and their grownups, too.
In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from NetGalley, IDW Publishing and Top Shelf Productions in exchange for an honest review.

Even though Spoops is clearly geared toward kids, as a lifelong Halloween lover, I was completely charmed by this graphic novel! It’s such a cute and heartfelt story, full of warmth, whimsy, and a genuine love for the spooky season.
The little ghostly characters are adorable, and the narrative has a lovely message about family, courage, and embracing who you are. What really stood out, though, was the absolutely stunning artwork, it was so adorable, atmospheric, and full of fall magic. Every page felt like a Halloween postcard I’d want to hang on my wall.
Whether you’re young, young-at-heart, or just obsessed with all things October, Spoops is a cosy, visual treat worth picking up.

You're in for a treat with Spoops to meet!
The Spoops are the spirits of Halloween and they're here to support Halloween obsessed Holly, whose parents are dentists that loathe Halloween.
This lyrical read brings the magic of Halloween and fall, with beautifully coloured illustrations that use shades of orange as the only contrast to black and white. A wonderful addition to any children's or classroom bookshelf, the Spoops doesn't aim to scare but rather to bring the joy of childhood Halloween to audiences.
As someone with an easily scared niece, this will be the perfect book to help her embrace the Halloween season.

This little comic was extremely cute and had my season fully displayed. I quickly flew through it and loved every second of it.

Spoops: The Little Spirits of Halloween by A. J. Locascio is a beautifully illustrated story that is perfect for Halloween or for those of us that celebrate the spooky season all year round. This is a wonderful book to share with younger middle grade readers and with nods to Dr. Seuss and other classic childrens books, this feels beautifully nostalgic and I can definitely imagine it becoming a treasured part of family traditions. While the story itself is quite simple and cute, told in rhyming verse, it really is the illustrations that are the real showstoppers here. With a perfectly halloweeny colour palette they are whimsical and full of fun. I would love to have my own personal set of spoops to bring the fun of the season at all times.
Thanks to IDW Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this wonderful spooky little story in exchange for an honest review

What a clever younger grade novel, full of rhymes and pictures, this cute story will leave you feeling happy and satisfied.
The illustrations had me getting flashbacks from the 90s and early 2000s halloween seasons and had me feeling very nostalgic.

“Spoops : The Little Spirits of Halloween” is a perfect Halloween storybook. It’s a nice mix of “Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” A great book for librarians to use during the spooky season with students making Spoops or having a Spoop competition.

This was such a cute book! I really liked the illustrations and the use of color. I loved the little spoop characters too. I think the storyline was great to show Halloween is more than just candy but there can be other traditions made. Awesome job.

Despite being summer, Halloween is officially here for little Holly. She loves Halloween and celebrates the entire year no matter the occasion, but sadly her parents don't find the holiday enjoyable like their daughter. How can Holly convince them? With the help of her new friends the Spoops. I loved the drawings. Very cozy and you don't have to wait until Halloween to read it. Holly would approve.

Such a cute book about a Halloween loving girl and the little spirits who help her convince her parents to love it too. A fun one for kids and classrooms for spooky season!

A charming picture book full of autumn magic
I had a smile on my face from the very first page. Spoops: The Little Spirits of Halloween is a truly special picture book that instantly put me in the mood for fall. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful: mostly in black and white, with highlights in orange and yellow that draw attention to all the classic Halloween elements. Each page feels simple yet atmospheric – like a little piece of art.
The story of little Holly is so much fun and immediately made me want to grab a pumpkin and start carving. I especially loved the opening rhyme – it’s a lovely way to start the story and really pulls you in. I actually would’ve liked to see more written text throughout the book in that same style.
As a Halloween fan, I have to say: I would honestly love to hang some of these illustrated pages on my wall! There’s so much attention to detail, and the spirit of Halloween truly comes to life on every page. I had a great time going through it as an adult, and I’m sure kids will enjoy discovering all the little spooky surprises too.
If you love spooky things as much as I do, you’ll definitely enjoy this book – and it would make a wonderful gift for anyone who feels the same. A magical little book – perfect for the Halloween season!

Such a cute book! Spoops is the story of a Halloween obsessed little girl , Holly, with dentist parents. The don't understand her love of fun, spooky things and they definitely don't understand the candy and sweets thay come along with celebrating Halloween. Holly decides to take make this year different and with the help of some friendly Halloween spirits, known as the Spoops, she does just that! Will Holly finally be able to join the town's Halloween festivities? Will her parents ever understand?
Spoops is beautifully illustrated, reminding me of the picture books of my childhood. This book is absolute spooky joy!

The spoops are so cute. I absolutely loved the illustrations and all the orange! I wish there was a little more to the story other than her parents being dentist and antihalloween. But I definitely think I'll be purchasing this for my niece and nephew after it released!

5⭐️ | A Halloween classic in the making 🎃
Whimsical, nostalgic, and full of spooky charm—Spoops is everything I want in a family Halloween read. Think Dr. Seuss meets Tim Burton, with rhyming verse, cozy orange-and-black illustrations, and just the right amount of magic.
The Spoops are tiny spirits who make Halloween happen—from rustling the leaves to waking the ghosts. And when one little girl needs help rediscovering the joy of the season (with dentist parents, no less!), the Spoops step in to save the day.
It’s a clever trick and a lovable treat that reads like a new fall tradition. Perfect for snuggly read-alouds and little readers who live for October. 🍂👻🕯️

This was adorable and I loved that the colour scheme was only black, white and orange. A cute little story about a girl who’s obsessed with Halloween with dentist parents who are anti-Halloween. The magic of Halloween might transform their lives forever.
