Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin all do a wonderful job narrating Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. The first twelve chapters had me hooked, and I only wish that this was the entire audiobook and not just a sneak peak! I cannot wait to finish listening to this story because I need to know what happens to Maria, Charlotte and, Alice. I love that it time hops and is set in three different time periods. I'm always a sucker for different timelines in a story when it is done right, and this is definitely done right.

Loved this sneak peek of the audiobook for Bury Our Bones! The narration is fantastic and the book itself was an incredible 5 star read! Readers can't go wrong with either reading or listening to this one, but they must check it out!

I received a sneak peek of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab (the first 15 minutes of the audiobook, so just Chapter 1), and I enjoyed it a ton! I know that there are three narrators for this story, as we are following three characters across three different time periods. The first narrator, Julia Whelan, voices Maria – a young woman living in 1532 Santo Domingo de la Calzada.

Maria is trapped in a marriage to a man she does not love, under the vigilant eye of her mother in law (who, in accordance to the time, just wants Maria to further her family's line). Maria has dreams of escape – and is captivated by a woman, dubbed "The Widow", who she swears she's seen before.

Whelan does an amazing job at capturing the voice of a beautiful young woman, exasperated by her living conditions. I'm excited to plug into this full audiobook soon!

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this Audio ARC Copy!

Literally my only complaint is that this ended way too soon. This story starts out by grabbing you buy your throat and demanding that you sit down and pay attention. The prose is so beautiful, and I cannot wait to continue on with the rest of this story.

I got a sneak peek of the audiobook, and while the premise sounded intriguing, the execution didn’t quite land for me. The story moves across three different timelines and perspectives, which made it difficult to follow in audio format. I found myself lost more than engaged, and this is the kind of book I’d need to experience through immersive reading (audio + physical or ebook) to fully grasp the narrative.

I didn’t finish it, so I didn’t want to rate it too low—especially because I know V.E. Schwab’s writing can be powerful and emotional. I absolutely loved The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, but this one just didn’t hook me the same way. It seems like a story with a lot of depth, but it didn’t captivate me enough to keep going—at least for now.

This story and audiobook are absolutely captivating. I’m honestly so bummed this was just a sneak peek because now I have to go buy the full version to figure out what’s actually going on.

The writing is stunning in that classic Schwab way. And the narration was a stunning performance. Calm, moody, and the kind of voices that make you hang on every spoken word.

The sample was only a few hours long so I’m still not sure how all the pieces fit together but I’m already hooked. I loved each of the timelines from past to present and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds in the full audiobook.

Thank you to MacMillan Audio for the gifted ALC sneak peek.

Loved the sneak peek of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil! The writing is dark and dreamy, the vibes are eerie in the best way, and I’m already obsessed with the characters. Can’t wait to read the full thing. Thanks NetGalley for the early look!

I can’t wait for this book to be made into a TV show because I know it is going to be amazing 😅

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil somehow felt similar and different from other vampire stories. Like it felt like a classic vampire story, but also felt very different. I love that VE Schwab is able to do that!

While the narrators were amazing (including Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin), I wish I had read a physical copy instead because I spaced out at a few different points.

The preview is a good taste for what’s to come. It’s nearly 100 pages. I finished the book via audiobook and loved each narration. I really appreciated that each POV had its own voice. These characters now live in my head rent free. I spent centuries with them, and I’m now trying to figure out how to move on after it’s over.

This was an amazing preview and I cannot wait for the whole book! I ordered the print version from Book of the Month, but I may have to also get the audio version because the narrators were great!

I didn't realize that I was just getting a "sneak peek" when I requested the audio version of this book from NetGalley, but I was pleasantly surprised anyway. It 100% piqued my interest and held my attention from the very start. The narrator was amazing and definitely gave credibility to both the plot and characters. I don't often love books about vampires, but this intro that I got from this audiobook intrigued me enough and gave me enough of a teaser to "force" me to get the book and read it, which I plan to do very soon. I will probably get the audiobook to go with my hardback / e-book because the narrator was that good. I don't want to give any spoilers, especially since I wasn't able to read the entire book with this sneak peak. But I will say that it illustrated enough to me to be confident in recommending it to others.

Thank you to Netgalley and MacMillan audio for a sneak peek of the audio version of this book. It is definetly a carrot held out but can't be caught.
Three woman, three different eras. Beautifully written and I look forward to the book.
I've never known Netgalley to do this before so I am definitely wondering why.
