I'm so excited to hear the rest of this book! All three narrators are excellent and this was a treat to listen to. Each narrator is unique and adds something special to their POV character and the story. Great production quality so far! This will be an enjoyable audiobook for sure.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil was already one of my most anticipated reads of 2025. Add in the absolute powerhouse lineup of narrators for the audiobook, and I’m on the verge of losing my mind. I could listen to Julia Whelan count blades of grass and still call it five stars.

This was just a sneak peek—a taste, a tease—but I am sat.

Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and V.E. Schwab for the absolute privilege of receiving this ARC sneak peek in exchange for an honest review!

I only had the audio sneak peak of about 12 chapters... but wow. The characters are all now in my head and I have to wait until publication to see what happens. When you get declined for your most anticipated reads, it hurts. I am desperate to carry on with this. I'm obsessed.

This sneak peak has me counting down the days until I can listen to the entire book! It pulls you in from the start and leaves you wanting more. The narrator does a fantastic job of bringing this book to life.

I am loving this based on the preview! The writing is beautiful, as expected from V.E. Schwab, but the narration really took it to the next level for me. Having the three different narrators is such a nice touch and helps put you in the mind of each individual narrator. I can’t wait to read the rest next month!

OKAY!!!! I need the rest of this book in whatever form possible....paperback... hardback... ebook...audiobook... The first 12 chapters of this were exquisite. The plot and characters are coming along great. The narrator was incredible as well. You can really feel all her emotions and her voice really goes great with the story. I can vividly image everything that's going on. I'm so excited for this to release. I just know this book is gonna be one of my favorite reads.

“Three young women, their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots. One grows high, and one grows deep, and one grows wild. And all of them grow teeth.”

My thoughts:
A slow burn in the best way! From chapter one, I was all in. The story flows so naturally, I felt I was being gently pulled into another world. No confusion, merely a smooth ride that kept me hooked the whole way through. The story has a natural rhythm that makes it so easy to fall into and even easier to keep listening.

The narrators shine here. Each voice is carefully chosen and beautifully performed, with accents that give each character real dimension. It felt like I was listening to the characters speak, not just voices reading a script.

Although this was just a preview, my interest never wavered. The world, the characters, the cozy unraveling of the plot, I need more. I will be coming back for the full release.

Big thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the chance to listen early in exchange for an honest review!

My thoughts:

🥀 Audiobook is the way to go! Macmillan went all out and gave us not one, not two, but three absolutely FANTASTIC narrators. Each of them delivers a stunning performance and I was mesmerized listening to them. In fact I need to find more audiobooks by each of these ladies! 👌🏻

🥀 The writing is glorious, atmospheric and sucks you in completely. We are slowly invited into each character’s lives and it feels as if you are in the room with them. I found myself feeling invested in each one and I was only given a 12 chapter glimpse! I have to know more!

🥀 There is no doubt in my mind, I will be continuing this book once it is officially released. This sneak peek did exactly what it was meant to do. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

Big thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the chance to listen early in exchange for an honest review!

I knew this sneak peak would leave me wanting more and that is exactly what it did! First and foremost I love Julia Whelan as a narrator but I was also pleasantly surprised with Katie and Marisa. They gave stellar performances and I was only left wanting to keep listening. I would love to complete this audiobook as soon as possible!

I've joked that I'm tempted to rate this excerpt poorly just because I'm now SO upset about how long I have to wait for the rest of it - but no, of course not, I cannot do that. I've been intrigued by this one since it was first announced and this excerpt did not disappoint. I'm of course even more intrigued now, and eagerly awaiting my preorder. This is lush, mysterious, and spellbinding. Thank you, NetGalley and V.E. Schwab, I shall try to remain as calm as I can waiting to continue this journey on June 10.

Obsessed! Gorgeous prose and an enthralling listen. The narrators are fantastic! Julia Whalen stuns as usual. This was my first time listening to Katie Leung. I absolutely love her narration of Alice’s perspective!

I cannot wait to continue this story.

I can tell this will be one of my absolute favorite reads and it is killing me to be able to finish the audiobook right now. I felt hooked right from the beginning. It was easy to get connected to the characters and immersed in the world. The audiobook narrators are wonderful and expressive. I cannot wait for the full audiobook to be released. I think this book will be amazing as an immersive read with both the audiobook and physical book.

The first 12 chapters are just not enough I’m literally feigning for the rest.

Alice for me was so connectable right off the bat.

Longing to be a more true version of herself and unapologetic/confident.

V.e.Schwab just knows how to take a story and make you feel it to your core!

Thankyou netgalley and publishers for the early sneak peek pleassseee please be June!!!

The way I am even more hyped for this to be released! The narrators are incredible. The lush narrative that is experienced in this small section is fantastic! I can already tell that I am going to be obsessed with Lottie. The perfect way to whet the appetite.

ALC sneak peek review, so this is not for the full book, just enough to have me salivating for more. Since it’s an audio, I’ll review in 2 parts, story and narration.

Story - set in two timelines (so far) and voiced by 3 characters (again, so far), we’re first introduced to Maria, a young 16th century Spanish woman who is wily and clever and full of plans to escape and rage at her lot in life when she encounters a mysterious widow who offers her more. Alice, a college student in 2019, whose life is thrown into a tailspin after a one night stand. And Charlotte, a cloistered 19th century English girl who is sent to London after an indiscretion where she’s offered a choice.

When Schwab toured promoting Fragile Threads, I was lucky enough to attend one of her events with my sister. She talked about this book, lesbian vampires across time filled with rage. I knew it was something I had to read.

I loved the distinct voices each character has that are woven through with similarities caused by their situations and desires. The worlds they live in may not always accept them as they are but they’re determined to be more, thrive and make their own paths. Charlotte is the character we spent the least time with in the sneak peek and I’m so eager to learn more about her story, about all of their stories. When we leave off, Maria has just encountered the widow after 10 years and she’s yearning for escape from her horrid in-laws and worthless husband. Alice is hunting for answers after a one-night stand leaves her physically ill with little memory of the encounter. What’s next? I can’t wait to find out!

Narration - each character is delivered with a distinct voice helped by the accents that they hold. The delivery is succinct and trusts the reader to find the anger, sarcasm and delight that each character experiences.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ALC! All opinions are my own.

I’m so sad that this is just a sneak peek, I need to be able to finish this asap! But the writing style is amazing and the story is intriguing.

Completely hooked after listening to the Sneak Peek, so sad I don’t have the full audiobook rn.

I love listening to audiobooks while I run but can be very sensitive to narrators voices. I really loved the narrators for Bury Our Bones in The Midnight Soil, felt like they were perfect for the book and the setting.

Definitely intend to finish the audiobook now that I’ve started listening, I’m fully invested in the story and characters and loved the narrators.
