I didn’t know if it was going to be a good or a bad thing to get a sneak peak audio of this HIGHLY anticipated book!
The teaser was excruciating to hear and not continue right away, but I have no regrets, and it held me over until my pre-order came!
Schwab has solidified herself as an instant-buy author for me, and it’s no surprise that this book is pretty much guaranteed to be a 5 star read!
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan for the ALC preview!

These first few chapters are completely gripping—I’m so curious to see what becomes of Maria and Alice. V.E. Schwab’s writing is beautiful, and the cast is doing a brilliant job bringing it to life. Julia Whelan is phenomenal as always, but the rest of the narrators are holding their own right alongside her.

This sneak peak is so fantastic! I absolutely can’t wait to read and review the full book. For now, I want to say that the narrators are so talented, the writing is sooo atmospheric, and I love the queerness.

Oh my God, I’m loving this! I can’t wait for this whole book to be released. It’s totally got Addie vibes for me.
I can’t wait to see where this book goes when it comes to the toxic lesbian vampires.

✨ ARC Review: Bury Our Bones
📖 Release Date: Today!
🎧 Format: Advanced Reader Copy (Audiobook Preview)
I’ve been eagerly anticipating diving into V.E. Schwab’s work, and I feel genuinely privileged to experience this sneak peek of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. This isn't just a story—it’s a sensory experience. Schwab is the kind of author who has a love affair with language. Every sentence feels handcrafted, even when the subject matter is dark or deeply uncomfortable. Her writing is visceral, poetic, and completely immersive.
This is not a book to multitask with. The prose demands your full attention. You don't just read it—you feel it. There’s something sacred about giving yourself over to this kind of storytelling.
The novel weaves together the lives of three women across three timelines.
"Three young women, their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots.
One grows high, and one grows deep, and one grows wild.
And all of them grow teeth."
This preview gave me just enough to know: each perspective is so rich with emotion, it will completely ensnare my full attention until I reach the end.
The woman set in the 1500s stood out most, used only as a vessel to bear children, she is exhausted and desperate, praying to a god she’s not even sure exists. Her husband treats her as property, taking what he wants when he wants it. And yet, Schwab gives her a voice—and a depth—beyond what history often allows. Her writing captures the wife’s silent yearning, her curiosity about pleasure she’s never known, and the way she reacts to even the smallest touch, like when the maid brushes her hair.
One line haunts me still:
"You are a jewel. Others may see you and grow greedy."
It’s possessive. It’s controlling. And yet Schwab layers it with complexity, where love, power, and desire blur in deeply oppressive dynamics.
This book isn’t just a narrative. It’s a meditation on womanhood, identity, and reclaiming feminine power.
Shout out to the talented narrators Narrated by Julia Whelan; Katie Leung; Marisa Calin !
and to OwlCrate for their stunning special edition of this book! I purchased one for my collection, and I'm thrilled to see it in person. This quite possibly could be my favorite book of the year.

From the sneak peek I had I enjoyed it and now I really want to read the whole thing! The characters are fiercely vivid: at once predator and prey, drawn to power yet haunted by what they’ve lost. Their stories unravel across centuries in a tapestry that explores grief, desire, and the cost of becoming something beyond human . As one reviewer noted, “three main characters born (and turned) at different points in history, all queer women, all impossible to look away from.”

Thanks to Netgalley for a sneak peek of this audiobook. It was only a 2 hour sample but I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook so much I bought the audiobook for myself. For the little I did listen to I thought all the narrators did a great job reading their respective characters & I loved the storyline & I hope the whole book is just as good as this 2 hour listen. This will be one book I recommend.

INCREDIBLE. I’m so excited to dive into the rest of the book!! The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue is my favourite book ever so when I heard Bury Our Bones is similar but darker (with toxic lesbian vampires!!) I HAD to get my hands on this

Thank you Netgalley for this sneak peek. This is only the first 12 chapters of the book and from this alone I really enjoyed the different points of view of characters. Each time you started to feel something for the main character the next story line would begin, and you were left on the cliff each time. That was a great suspense build up and kept me on the edge of my seat. The narrator was great as well she was able to change her voice to fit the different characters she narrated. Which was amazing since there were two different time lines. One timeline took place in the 1500’s a young poor girl wanted a different life for herself, a richer life she plots a way to do that. You quickly learn that she is unsatisfied and wants something new for herself. Next is a girl who attends a queer academy and finds herself attracted to Lottie. Lottie seems wiser and older than she is portrayed. As of right now it sounds like both females are discovering who they are and figuring out who they are attracted too. I am eager to find out how it ends and how the story lines interconnect. I will continue this book on audio once it is available.

I loved this sneak peak and can’t wait to finish this! As always the narrators are doing an amazing job bringing these characters to life!

This is one of my new favorite books.
Fun fact about me: I'm obsessed with vampires. Especially Interview with a Vampire, and this is it's sapphic doppelganger. With the manifold of settings, time-periods, and POVs, this felt like multiple novels interwoven into one beautifully horrific epic. My favorite thing about this, was going back to some highlights and realizing the subtle foreshadowing that will only be picked up as a re-read. I can not wait to dive into this again one day.

Loved the sneak peak... didn't like how I got denied for the full audiobook. Felt like getting a present at banana in an iPhone box at Christmas. Except the banana was rotted and I never got an iPhone. Bummer.

This book is *insane* in the best way possible. It's not just one story, it's like, three completely different but totally connected stories about immortality, crazy choices, and just finding your place in the world, spanning centuries.
First, you're in 1532 with María making this desperate, lif altering decision, and it's so intense. Then, suddenly, you're in 1827 with this young woman in London who's just aching for something more, and it's super romantic and tragic. And then BAM, you're in 2019 Boston with Alice, who's on this wild journey of self-discovery and revenge after something major happens.
The way Schwab weaves these narratives together is just genius. Each one is so captivating on its own, with characters you actually care about, but then they all connect in this deeper, almost philosophical way about life, death, and what it means to truly live. I honestly couldn't put it down. If you're looking for something totally unique, beautifully written, and just unforgettable, you HAVE to read this. Absolute 5 star perfection!

I had heard from early reviews that the beginning of this book is a slower pace and audiobooks for me always help with that!! So an early sneak peek at the audio is huge! And with one of my favorite narrators?! Yes, please!
It’s always helpful when an audiobook that has multiple POVs has multiple narrators too - big win!
The audio is so well done here I will be continuing the rest in this format too!

I am SO excited for this book. I am already so intrigued by the three story lines and I am prepared for Victoria to destroy me.

I had the chance to listen to the first 12 chapters of Burn Our Bones in the Midnight Soul, and it’s safe to say I’m completely hooked. V.E. Schwab’s writing is lyrical, atmospheric, and layered with emotion. From the very first chapter, the story pulled me in.
Though I’ve only had a sneak peek, what I’ve heard so far promises another powerful and unforgettable novel. So far this book carries echoes of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue with its emotional weight, while carving its own distinct space with a more gothic, supernatural tone. I can’t wait to finish the full story and see how it unravels.
Disclaimer: I received an eARC of this book for review consideration and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

I don't think V.E. Schwab can write a book where I am NOT imeadiately hooked. This teaser had me salivating and I wanted to to sink my teeth in for more. ;)
This book is atmospherically gorgeous and her writing is the perfect blend of sappic yearning and gothic suspense. The story follows three women from the 1600s to present day and, like always, she can perfectly blend the past with the present. Her characters can fit in their time frames perfectly while still being very identifiable. I cannot WAIT to pick up the full version of this. If you were a fan of Addie, you will be a fan of Maria, Charolotte, and Alice.

I am so excited to listen/read the rest of this book! Even tho it was just a sneak peek, it was perfect for what I was hoping for! Got my signed copy yesterday and cannot wait for the moment to sit down and read it!

Received an audiobook arc from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The arc contains the first 12 chapters. there are 3 fmcs from different time periods so there are 3 POVs. there are also 3 narrators for the audiobook. I think the audiobook is great to showcase each FMC storyline and you tell the difference between the narrators when they switch POVs. 12 chapters were still an early part of the book so there was a lot of world building and backstory to go through. I thought the beginning was very intriguing. and I can't wait to get the book to finish it.

I only got to listen to a sample of this book but from what I gather it is gothic, queer, brutal, and beautiful—this does not seem like your typical vampire story. It definitely hooked me and I can't wait to finish the story someday.
