Wow I am so sad this was only a preview. I’m absolutely SALIVATING for the rest of this audiobook. I would recognize Queen Julia Whelan anywhere and she did such a great job in giving life to Maria. She perfectly captures the wild nature of her spirit and the yearning for a life beyond what is expected of her. This is my first V.E. Schwab and I am already so invested in this story. I can’t wait to listen to the rest of this on release day.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio for a preview.

Absolute tragedy to only be able to enjoy the preview. HAHA. I have tortured myself with this brief taste. What did I expect? Written by V.E. Schwab and narrated by Julia Whelan. Of course I'm in pain now! Can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the book.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is one of my top anticipated releases of the year, and the sneak peek absolutely lives up to the hype. In the audiobook, the three narrators each are a perfect fit for their respective characters - I can't wait to be further drawn into the worlds of Lottie, Alice, and María. V. E. Schwab has used such vivid imagery and captivating descriptions that it was like every scene came to life right in front of me.

I often have a difficult time switching between multiple POVs in drastically distant settings and timelines, but for this book it works well since each of the three main characters are so interesting and well-developed.

I received a free copy of the sneak peek audiobook via Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Thank you so much NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for this advanced sneak peak of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil has been the book I have been most excited to read in the past two years! V.E. Schwab weaves complex imagery and emotions into this dark and powerful novel. The three women of this book live in different time periods, but all experience the same hunger for more. I cannot wait to read more on June 10th!

Many thanks to Pan Macmillan, Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for a sampler of the first 12 chapters in exchange for an honest review.

These 12 chapters (2 hours and 32 minutes of audiobook) introduce three characters: Maria, Alice and Lottie and each has a separate narrator. I appreciated the distinct voices of each character, both in writing style and audio, so I could clearly recognise the shift between the POVs. I was immediately drawn to Maria, perhaps because there were more chapters available for her, but I am intrigued by all three leads.

I didn’t get a chance to sink my teeth into the meat of the plot with this limited sneak peak but I am curious to learn more about the settings and the character and how the tagline ‘toxic lesbian vampires’ will reveal itself.

This sampler has given me a taste of the story and certainly whet my appetite for more. I definitely plan on finishing the book after it is released.

Fans of Addie La Rue should prepare themselves: This is VE Schwab championing her masterful handling of multiple timelines. The sneak peek of the audiobook I got to enjoy from the publisher and NetGalley has me absolutely feral for this book to release in a few days. If it keeps up at this level, it is sure to be a 5⭐️ read for me. I can’t wait!

Since I was only given part of the book I cannot rate the book as a whole, but wow!! I’m obsessed! I can’t wait to finish the rest. I miss the characters already and I have to know how this plays out! Thank you NetGalley for this beautiful sneak peek!

4 stars for the sneak peek - Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the sampler of the first 12 chapters of this book. The multiple POVs for of the FMCs and the structure/storytelling is done well. The sneak peek gives only a glimpse at the vampire aspect to the story, so I'm on edge for that to develop and can't wait to see each character blossom. As always, I enjoy V.E. Schwab's writing and I'm excited to get my FairyLoot copy of the book and finish reading!

Thank you NetGalley for the free audiobook.

This book is being touted as VE Schwab’s “toxic lesbian vampire” novel and this sneak peak audiobook of thr first 12 chapters really lives up to that vibe and the hype! The story follows 3 women across different centuries: Maria in 1532 Spain, Charlotte in 1827 London, and Alice in 2019 Boston. Their lives are connected by a shared lineage of vampirism and a metaphorical soil that binds them.

Maria's character stands out the most this far. She’s brave, outspoken, and has all the fierce qualities needed in an admirable MC. Living in a patriarchal society, she has many traditional expectations what her life should be as a woman. Her defiacy so far is admirable and her inner monologues are compelling. Charlotte and Alice are getting interesting as the story progresses and it’ll be very interesting to see how their journeys unfold in the full novel.

Schwab always starts off the pacing slowly and then quickly picks up the pacing—and this book is no exception so far! The merging of storylines are also carefully and brilliantly executed so far, and there’s so many possibilities of plot direction to get reality excited about. The prose is very descriptive and alluring, giving off almost a haunted vibe at times. Every new setting is vividly depicted with such atmospheric detail that you really feel right there with the characters!

Narrators Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, Marisa Calin all deliver standout performances (so far) with authentic sounding accents perfectly matching the time period of their characters. The crystal clear voices make the audiobook easy to follow and the abundance of emotional intensity and acting skill infused into all three performances will have listeners hooked!

Overall, this is a captivating and addictive sneak peak of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil that leaves listeners eager to get the full length novel/audiobook ASAP!

I received a sneak peek of the audio and I was hooked the second I heard Maria's voice through! Of all of them, she was the most gripping for me and I need more of her story yesterday! She's spunky, brave, strong and everything I admire in a female character! The pace, the plot, the merging storylines....everything was amazing! The more you listen the more gripped you become! I especially appreciate the authenticity of the narrators "accents" in relation to the characters! It played a big part in keeping me hooked as a listener! I've chosen this book as my BOTM but since I started with an audio, I will be getting audio to listen along as I read!

Oh wow, I am SO excited for this book. The first 12 chapters have me hooked. The narrators are fantastic. The main characters are engaging and I love them all.

I want to know more NOW. I can't wait to get my hands on the full thing.

Thank you, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley, for a preview of this audiobook. I can't wait to read the rest of it!

This was a great sample of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. It covers 12 chapters and gives you just enough to get a feel for the book, while wanting more.

The different narrators really added to the audiobook, it made more engaging and immersive. Not only that but it gave each of the three main characters a distinctive voice to match. I really liked Maria's narrator in particularly, Julia Whelan has such a soothing and captivating tone. I love her voice in Emily Henry's audiobooks and she's just as great here. The other voice actors also did a fantastic performance at bringing the compelling characters to life and were easy to follow.

As for the story itself, the prose was very flowery and lavish, conveying an almost haunted vibe. It describes the scene and setting in such a indulgent manner, that I was able to just picture it vividly. Maria's character was the standout for me. I found her story to be the most captivating with her desire for a better and new path for herself, but is forced to deal with a patriarchal society and the expectations that come with being a woman. She's defiant in her actions and I loved hearing the strong will that comes across in her thoughts.

I look forward to listening to the full audiobook, since I love the narration and I'm curious about what happens next in the story.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio for the sneak peak.

When you read V.E. Schwab’s books, know that you are signing up for a slow start. She writes rich, luscious slow starts that draw you into the characters and world. But the action doesn’t happen out the gate. This novel is no different. There is an undercurrent of anticipation, knowing that this book is about “toxic lesbian vampires”. The promise of something deep and dark is there in these first 12 chapters. It cuts you off at a point that will have you digging for more. I cannot wait four more days until my preorder comes in, and I can resume my consumption of what is (slowly) unfolding to be a masterpiece.

Oh how I would have wished for a complete ALC. This audiobook goes so well with the magical story that VE Schwab weaves. Each character has their own voice, and I say bravissimo! Each narrator matched the character they portrayed perfectly and helped bring them to life. This story had me in its grip from the opening line and I kept trying to move forward once my limited preview cut me off. I've already pre-ordered the audiobook, as well as every physical copy I could get my hands on. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. Sign me up for any and everything VE Schwab in the future. Thank you again!
