Thank you to Netgalley and MacMillan audio for a sneak peek of the audio version of this book. It is definetly a carrot held out but can't be caught.
Three woman, three different eras. Beautifully written and I look forward to the book.
I've never known Netgalley to do this before so I am definitely wondering why.

Very fascinating sneak peek of a book I am very excited to finish shortly! Will definitely be recommending that my library acquires more copies of this one.

While this was only a sneak peak I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to continue this story. I love the authors willingness to explore some new writing styles and reaching out towards new concepts. Definitely a story that is immersive and entraining.

Amazing writing from VE Schwab, my favorite title from her yet! The characters were multifaceted and their stories tragic. A vampire story you don’t want to miss.

Was perfect and i was ready to read the whole book. The audio was just more then I hoped for. So grateful to got it an could listen to it

In the audiobook preview for "Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil", we hear the first thirteen chapters of this sapphic story. Within the first chapters of the book, we follow two different timelines through three different povs. At this point in the book, I'm not 100% sure what to expect, but I'm definitely intrigued enough to continue. After reading the synopsis, I know to expect vampires to show up, but they haven't shown themselves yet.
I love the narration. Julia Whelan is always amazing.

I started this closer to publication day so I could easily continue once the preview ended. Honestly, the sneak peek did its job because I was hooked from the start.
The first chapters were gripping and filled with the right amount of mystery. The way the characters were introduced left me instantly intrigued and as I reached the end of the preview, the shifting of timelines and perspectives made me genuinely excited for release day. Now that I’ve finished the book, I can easily say this is one of my top reads of the year.
If you love emotionally complex characters with a hint of darkness and obsession, this one’s for you. They were layered and messy in the best way. I love when characters aren’t perfectly “good” or “bad” but live somewhere in that morally gray space, that’s exactly what makes you root for them.
The vampire aspect made the story feel nostalgic, and the atmosphere was dark, at times eerie and moody. The writing in this book was gorgeous and lyrical, I think this would be a perfect read for fall.
The story jumps between timelines and povs, which I usually find disorienting, but here it was done so well. The whole thing had this sense of longing, obsession, and rage running underneath. The way it moved between past and present was so smooth, and I never felt lost. I was really into how each character’s backstory gave us bits and pieces. Every time we switched time periods, I felt like I was getting closer to the whole picture, and it made everything more intense.
The ending I did NOT see coming, it’s the type of ending that makes you question everything and makes you want to reread the whole book to look for all the things you’ve missed.
I had only read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (which I loved), but now I’m convinced I need to dive into the rest of her work.
Also, a small but important thing: I really appreciated the narrator’s Spanish pronunciation. I can’t speak on other accents, but it was a lovely surprise to hear the words of my language correctly pronounced.
Read if you’re into
🥀 toxic lesbian vampires
🥀 female rage
🥀 obsessive characters
🥀 lovers to enemies
🥀 sweet, sweet revenge

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this ALC sneak peek.
Julia Whelan; Katie Leung; Marisa Calin- performers.
Julia Whelan is a damn queen. This is not new or a surprise. Yes for anything she reads!
Katie Leung! Freaking Cho Chang from the Harry Potter movies is Alice! It took me far too long and an Instagram visit to realize who she is! I’m looking forward to hearing more than just a small bit of a sneak peak!
Marisa Calin is completely new to me and I need more to make a fair critique.
As for now, the sneak peak gets::: 4 stars!!!

VE Schwab comes back with another story with strong character development. From this short sneak peek, we learn that this book will be an interesting study of feminism and history. I am intrigued and already bought a physical copy of the book!

So far, this is amazing. I can't wait to see how everything comes together. I love how calculating Maria is. She's definitely my favorite at the moment.

Literally had to go out and buy this immediately after listening to part of it. It kept me hooked the entire time and the narration was next level. The way each girl's passage felt completely different but also woven together to fit the rest of the story was incredible. One of my favorite reads this year by far.

I love the use of immortality to really dive into different things people truly live for. What do you care about if life is endless? What do you hunger for and will it ever satiate?
Vampires!
This uses three pov in three distinct time periods to tell a story of passion, revenge and hunger.
Alice (2019) is excited to start fresh in a new place. Recently moved from Scotland to go to Harvard. As she reinvents herself and steps out of her comfort zone for one night. She wakes up with no pulse and only the name of the girl she hooked up with.
Meanwhile in the 1500s A woman tries to advance her station by marrying a lord and it doesn’t work out the way she anticipates.
And Charlotte who seems to be timeless somehow connecting the two together.
I loved it. I started with the audio sneak peek in netgalley and continued with a physical copy.

Given that this was a sneak peak, I can't speed on the story as a whole, but we did get just enough to get a jist of the format and premise. There are 3 POVs and we get a separate narrator for each, which I love. They come from different times and that impacts how their lives (or undeaths) play out. Sapphic vampires? Yes, please. Schwab's writing is beautiful as always and I can't wait to read the whole story.
Thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an ALC preview of this audiobook for an honest review.

Received the audiobook Sneak Peek of this book and OH MYYYY! It’s SOOO GOOD. I was captivated from the get go.
I’ve only heard the first 12 chapters but can’t wait to hear the rest. The narrators did an incredible job with this one!
Thank You NetGalley!

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced listen to this book in exchange for an honest review!
I didn't realize when I downloaded this that it was just a preview, and when I realized it, let me tell you - I was DEVASTATED. Six chapters was nowhere near enough and I cannot wait to get my hands on the whole thing. It was done so well already, I can only imagine how good the whole book will be!

This was an addicting length for a sneak peek, and I cannot wait until I finish the book in its entirety. Each of the characters are fascinating and it’s very impressive to see how Schwab was able to tackle different timelines and how I anticipate they will weave together. Very excited for this and grateful for the audio sneak peek!

I love everything about VE Schwab’s writing and this book is no exception. Her turns of phrase are so exquisitely written that I just want to have them on repeat around me all day! The story grapples with so many big questions while also being a really engaging and enthralling read. I can’t recommend it more highly. Go forth and read it!! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the sneak peek!!

Sci-Fi fantasy is not my typical genre but I was curious to see what this book was all about. I enjoyed The Invisible Life of Addie Larue so I figured it was worth a shot.
Overall, the narration was well done and it definitely piqued my interest enough that I'd like to continue listening to the full version. It was immersive and moody with a sweeping premise.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the sneak peek sampler in exchange for an honest review!
3.5 stars

This sneak peek already captivated me and makes me eager to keep reading. I am already in love with Sabine's character and look forward to the book exploring her journey and development more. Like their other books, V.E. Schwab has done an excellent job of setting the mood and atmosphere through her stellar writing. The narrator for this audiobook was also fantastic. The engaging narration brought the characters to life. This was a great sneak peek that excites me to read the rest of the book.

Haunting, lyrical, and achingly beautiful — Schwab delivers another masterpiece.
I was beyond thrilled to receive an early copy of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil from NetGalley, and it absolutely exceeded every expectation I had. V.E. Schwab once again proves why she’s one of the most compelling voices in speculative fiction. This story is steeped in melancholy and quiet magic, weaving a tale of grief, legacy, and the things that linger in the dark long after we’ve buried them.
Schwab’s prose is nothing short of breathtaking. Every sentence feels deliberate, every image hauntingly beautiful. The characters are raw, flawed, and deeply human, navigating a world where the past clings to the present like restless ghosts. The setting itself feels alive — eerie, oppressive, and endlessly fascinating.
While this story leans into its darker, gothic elements, there’s a thread of tenderness and hope stitched through the narrative that balances the sorrow. Schwab handles themes of loss, generational trauma, and belonging with such care, making it impossible not to feel emotionally invested.
This isn’t a book you rush through; it’s one you savor, letting the language and atmosphere settle over you like mist. By the final page, I was utterly spellbound and already longing to revisit its shadowed world.
A must-read for fans of gothic fantasy, lyrical writing, and stories that linger long after the last word. Thank you, NetGalley and Tor Books, for the opportunity to experience this unforgettable novel early.
