This is a really great sneak peek into a new book release from VE Schwab! I get the feeling it’s going to be a lot like her other book Addie LaRue, which I also loved. I am looking forward to this new book and I plan to buy it!

Thank you to V.E. Schwab, Netgalley & MacMillan audio for allowing me to preview the sampler of the first 12 chapters of this audiobook. I was a little disappointed when I reached the end of the sampler because I really wanted to know what was next. I love Schwab’s writing style and despite the slower pace, I was quickly intrigued by the story. I was most captivated by Maria’s character (I swear I’m only a little biased because it’s my name)- in a patriarchal society where her will and her voice are constantly being suppressed, she remains curious, willful and defiant. I felt that her courage and naturally adventurous nature was just starting to show when I reached the end of my preview chapters. I will definitely be buying this audiobook (and already ordered a physical book trophy. I can’t wait to see where the story goes.
Keep an eye out for this one!

V.E. Schwab said "let me drop a sampler that grabs you by the soul and drags you screaming into the void"—and I, a willing victim, said “yes ma’am, bury me deeper.”
These first 10 chapters?? Immaculate. Obsessed. I read them like I was starved, like I hadn’t tasted gothic melancholy and lyrical dread in centuries. Schwab’s prose is haunting and poetic in that “gonna tattoo this line on my ribs while crying in a candlelit room” kind of way. The atmosphere? Thick enough to cut with a dagger and spread over toast. The characters? Already emotionally damaging me in that deliciously slow-burn tragic way. I’m ready to get attached and ruined.
I don’t even know what direction this story is taking, but I’ve buckled in. I’ve packed snacks. I’ve signed over my emotional stability to Schwab like it’s a cursed blood contract.
I’m invested. I’m wrecked. I’m standing outside my house under the full moon whispering “bury our bones” like it’s a prayer and a threat. If the rest of the book is anything like this sampler, we are about to be so fed—and emotionally eviscerated.
Mark my words: this will be the gothic fantasy of the year, and I will be insufferable about it.

This sneak peek has definitely peaked my interest. Maria is dull... it's not an original story and it was disappointing to read about the woes of 1500s marriage when I was promised lesbian vampires. She does have time with Isabella, but in the first few chapters it spends more time explaining the inequality of being a women of that time.
I am interested in the other points of view and what Schwab does with the story all together, so I'll be reading this when it comes out.
Thank you for NetGalley and Macmillan for this sneak peak audiobook.

For a sneak peek i will say this somehow both had nothing happen but also just enough to make me want to continue once the book gets published. i genuinely think when it publishes i’ll get the audio, this audio was so good from what i heard. i loved the narrators (or is it one with different accents? i’m not sure tbh). they did a phenomenal job!

A fantastic audiobook and sneak peak! I'm glad we got a chance to listen to all three narrators, and I'm really happy with all of what they bring to their characters, though I have a soft spot for Katie Leung's Alice. I cannot wait to read/listen to the rest of the book!

V.E. Schwab has such a unique way of writing, I was immediately immersed in the characters they were portraying. The descriptive imagery evokes such a beautiful and vivid image in my head. I also love this narrator, they narrated the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab which is one of my favorite audiobooks. I love the speed she speaks and the emphasis that she places on words to make you feel as if you are living within the story.

Hold the phone!!
I’ve been hyped for this book ever since I first heard about it—and after listening to the first 12 chapters, all I can say is: BLESS!! I’m even more excited now! It’s spooky, it’s got vampires, and the writing? Chef’s kiss.
I was told to go in blind, and that advice is 100% spot-on. If you love eerie atmospheres, dark themes, and a good vampire story—this one is for you.
I grew up loving all things spooky (I come from a spooky family, after all), and this book totally fits the vibe. V.E. Schwab, I clearly need to dive deeper into your work, because I am hooked.
Now I’ll just be over here counting down the days till June 10th, when I finally get to finish this hauntingly good story.
Big thanks to the publisher, Tor, and V.E. Schwab for sharing a sneak peek—can’t wait to see where this one goes!
Ps. I def recommend the audiobook! The Scottish accent for one of the characters is SO FUN!!

Ahhh NetGalley gave me access to the first 13 chapters and I cannot wait for this release. The story is already so beautifully written and the narrators are incredible. I need to know more about Maria and this widow ASAP.

OMG this audio is amazing!! I flew through it today and OBSESSED!! The different narrators are doing amazing job, and V E Schwab writing is beautiful!! I wish I had a full audiobook and not only sneak peak🥹❤️🔥

Wow! I was really engrossed in this audio preview and then it ended abruptly (to be expected with a sneak peek) and definitely left me hanging and wanting more. This preview only coves the beginnings of the stories of two of the characters and I found Maria’s story in 1532 to be especially engaging - such a strong female character for the time! I didn’t get to the part where they are buried in the same soil and haven’t gotten the vampire vibes yet but I can’t wait to get the book in a couple of weeks so I can really dive in. The narrator is also very good- she did a great job with accents and voice inflections.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advanced Reader Copy sneak peek in exchange for an honest review. Opinions are my own.

A new genre-defying novel about immortality and hunger.
Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 1532.
London, 1837.
Boston, 2019.
Three young women, their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots.
One grows high, one grows deep, and one grows wild.
And all of them grow teeth.
Can a novel flow with the lyrical motion of a poem, moving you in ways you did not expect?
V. E. Schwab has created just that, a novel that sings to you even as it makes you look over your shoulder for what lurks in the night
The first scene of seduction between Alice and the mysterious Lottie is so visceral that you can not just picture it but hear it, smell it, and feel the touch on your own skin. Beautiful in the motion of fear turning to dust turning to wonder.
Very few authors today have the skill to transport to a moment like this so you can witness creation. Creation of freedom, life, love, and monsters.
Highly recommended. I would strongly suggest the audiobook so you get the true feeling of these three unique women.
Expected publishing date June 10, 2025
Thanks to @netgalley and MacMillan Audio for the opportunity to read this eArc in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

I was so shocked when I got approved for this audio, only to realize it ended after about 12 chapters! Now I can’t wait to get the rest of it! I am dying to know how it continues! The writing is just what you expect from this amazing author! The prose is beautiful and the story is so intriguing!

What a great little sneak peak! I'm reading the e-book version right now, but hearing Maria's accent and everything made it feel more real to me! The narrator was great. Thank you!

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil
Oh em GEE! I cannot WAIT to read the full book! The sneak peek was so delightful - the multiple POVs with multiple narrators keep you coming back for more. SO GOOD! It's dark and spooky and I can't wait to see where the story goes when I can listen to the full book!

This was a great sneak peek into what this story is going to be. The narration ended right at a point where I did not want to stop listening. I'm enjoying the dual timeline setup and intrigued to see how the stories interconnect. I think the narration is excellent and really bring you into the world that V.E. Schwab has built. I appreciate the ability to listen early because I will most certainly be picking up the physical copy upon release.

i am counting down the days until Jun 10th! This sneak peak was already so good, the full novel will be a banger.

I am already in love with the story after just the first two hours of the complete book. The interactions among the three narrators are fantastic and work perfectly together. Now, I’m eagerly anticipating the release so I can listen to the entire book.

I am so excited to read the rest of this novel!! For fans of multi-generation, multi-timeline stories, Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is the sapphic vampire novel of my dreams!

I need more of this book! This sneak preview was lovely and I’m fully invested in all their stories!
As always the prose and writing style has such a unique cadence. The narrators are excellent, and really bring the characters to life!
