I think this might be one of the cases where the audiobook is better to experience first than the printed copy because this just WORKS.

The sneak peak was so good, cant wait to continue this book!!! The audio is perfect! 🤩 I was nervous this book would be too hard to comprehend given the description but the audio made it super easy to follow along.

I haven't found a book yet like this one from VE Schwab! This was gripping and kept me on my toes. I do wish this was more than a sneak peek, but I'll take what I can get!

I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this book to finish what I've started!

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this sneak peek audio!

I have never been more upset about being denied an ARC until now 😭 This sneak peek has me on the edge of my seat and now I'm impatiently waiting for release day!!!

This 12 chapter sneak peek was spectacular. It was just the right amount of chapters to give you a good taste of the vibes of the book. The narrators are fantastic, the storyline is compelling and the pacing is fabulous. I will share a full review on my Goodreads once I’ve read the entire book, but for now this is 5 stars!

I only listened to the sneak peak so I feel like I can’t give a true rating yet. However, I will say the sneak peak was plenty to convince me that I WILL read the whole thing once released.

Thank you NetGalley, Tor Books, and MacMillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this preview of the book!

The narrators all had wonderful acting and they really pulled me in. They complemented VE Schwab’s writing and brought it to life. I can’t wait to read the complete book on release!

Loved this sneak peak and looking forward to reading the rest of the book. The narrators do a great job of bringing the three stories to life.

This was an extended preview including the first 12 chapters of the book, and it is SO GOOD!!! From 1500's Spain to modern day America, it follows three ambitious women and multiple timelines. I'm here for the lesbian vampires (waiting to fully see the vampire bit) but I'm completely sucked in.

In 1500's Spain, Maria wants more than the life expected of her as a poor young woman, so she schemes her way into getting a rich husband. But that life leaves her feeling trapped as well. And the only people she's actually attracted to are women.

In 2019 Alice is a nervous queer college student who has a memorable encounter with a mysterious girl named Lottie. And she has her own perspective as well - but I'm pretty sure she's been alive for a lot longer.

I'm excited to continue reading the rest of the book! The audio narration is fantastic, even with the accents they're doing a great job. I received an audio review copy via Netgalley, all opinions are my own.

🩵THANK YOU @macmillan.audio and @netgalley for the sneak peak Advance Listener Copy of #BuryOurBonesInTheMidnightSoil by @veschwab!!

📆Back on January 4th, I named this one of my most anticipated books of 2025—and it absolutely delivered. Even with just the first 12 chapters of the audiobook, it’s already exceeded my expectations.

🩵The narration talents of @justjuliawhelan @_katieleung_ & @marisacalin brilliantly bring to life our fiercely independent Maria (1532), the still evolving Charlotte (1827) and the anxious rule following Alice (2019).

This book grabbed me from the very first paragraph and refused to let go. Now I have to know how these three characters develop, if (or how!) their stories intertwine—and most importantly, what happens next.

Just 12 chapters in, I already feel invested in these characters—from Maria’s sense of entrapment and emerging desires, Charlotte’s longing and heartbreak, and Alice’s insecurity and anxiety.

The writing is lyrical and I was already underlining sentences in my head. I’m planning to pre-order the audiobook, and just may need both a special edition physical copy for my shelves along with one to annotate 🤣.

📆 Mark your calendars, set your alarms ⏰ and get your pre-orders in now!!

Want to buddy read it, form a reading group!? Perhaps a support group as we await launch day? Anyone else feeling this!? LMK - I am fan-girling for this one!

I enjoyed the first 12 chapters of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. The narrators are great, they all speak in a way that allows you to listen to them at the same speed/pace. So far, a great experience. Can't wait to pick up a copy!

I didn’t have this book on my radar initially, but I’m really glad I gave the sneak peek a try. The first 12 chapters pulled me in. I’ve seen a few special edition book boxes announce upcoming releases of this title, and now I can see why it’s getting attention. The tone and pacing feel promising, and if the rest of the book continues in this direction, I can see it being a popular read.

I’ll absolutely be waiting for the full release. A strong start—looking forward to more!

Sneak Peak Review: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab

The thrill of finding a sneak peak of the audiobook of this highly anticipated book was phenomenal. Then I started listening, got swept into the stories of Maria, Alice, and Charlotte, and was angry, eager, and intrigued. Then, it ended. I went back to see if I’d stopped it by accident, but it was finished. I knew it would happen. Now to wait until release day for the rest.

What I can say is that I need to know more about the characters. I need to know what happens next. I also can tell you that Schwab’s writing is her beautifully lyrical prose reminiscent of previous books, but uniquely its own, Finally, I can also tell you that the narrators make the characters and story come to life like a movie.

Thank you Tor Books, MacMillan Audio, and NetGalley for this opportunity to listen to just enough to whet my appetite for more of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil.

I am already obsessed with this book despite only getting a sneak peek of the audiobook. The different narrators’ voices for each character are impeccable, the imagery immersive, and I can’t wait to hear how Maria’s, Lottie’s, and Alice’s stories intertwine and conclude!

I have been looking forward to this one! I loved Addie LaRue, it is one of my all time favorite books. This one is shaping up to join that list. What a beautifully told story with such deep meaning. I can’t wait to get access to the rest of it! I already shared with my followers on Goodreads.

This promises to be an incredible story, I was hooked from the get-go, both with the plot and the narrator, I would have loved to be able to hear the entire book, the fact I couldn’t was the only fault I found with this book

This audio sneak peak only increased my excitement for the full novel release this summer. While I was primarily planing to do a read on the physical hardback, the audiobook production from this little snippet was very well done and makes me want to do a tandem read! Schwab’s gorgeous prose in characterizing our three main characters combined with the audiobook actors’ skills makes this a do-not-miss book performance. Thank you for the sneak peak I can’t wait to continue the rest of the story on pub day, June 10!
