I loved getting to see a sneak peak for a book by one of my favorite authors!!! I'm truly excited to get to continue the story on June 10th when it gets released

The rating Iโ€™m writing is based on my experience of listening to this ebook.

I had a difficult time understanding the story; and that may not be an author issue, more on me being able to follow the story as an ebook format. Occasionally when listening to ebooks, I feel that finding a place for my feet to land feels difficult. This story definitely time jumps and I felt lost in that jump. I couldnโ€™t latch onto the character and absorb the setting.

Again, this is just my experience with the ebook story here. I do like V Schwab as an author and have read Gallant and part of LoAL, so I think perhaps reading this book later may help.

This sneak peek audio is torturous! I loved the narratorโ€™s and the use of emotion they emote. The writing is impeccable. V.E. Schwab has a way with wordโ€™s that keeps me locked in. She truly creates these worlds and characters that are unforgettable. I am already hooked on this book. I need more asap.

This was just a sneak peak. It did, however, make me really excited for the actual release of this one. I have been waiting for another Schwab book for so long! The rating is based on how effective the sneak peek was at getting me energized for the release of the actual book.

This was my first time diving into this authorโ€™s work, and what a refreshing change of pace it was. The story weaves together the lives of three women across different time periods, and the way their narratives intertwine is both intricate and completely absorbing. The writing is rich and layered, with emotional undercurrents that sneak up on you. I only had access to the first twelve chapters, but honestly, that was more than enough to pull me in and leave me wanting more.

The narration is top notch. Each voice felt intentionally cast, capturing the heart and nuance of the various characters so well that it added an extra layer of emotional depth to the experience.

All in all, a powerful first impression of this authorโ€™s voice and style. Consider me officially intrigued, Iโ€™ll definitely be listening to more.

V. E. Schwab! I love me some tantalizing lesbian vampires! The settings are always perfectly described in a cadence that just flows. Her characters were problematic in the best ways and kept my attention. This book is addicting and I realized after I was done that it was just a preview! I am beyond excited to read the rest of this book when it is released.

This sample made me more excited to listen to the whole version! Not a lot happened but I was interested with what I heard!

Okay they did us DIRTY when they ended the sneak peek. I was casually interested in reading this when it came out, but now that I've read the first 12 chapters I will be hustling up to the bookstore Tuesday morning to grab my copy so I can keep going. Even from the first little bit, I can tell this is going to be epic. TY Macmillan Audio!!

hmm. much less intriguing than i would have liked. this excerpt is totally devoid of vampires, which i assume will be coming later in the actual novel. there are three povs, but we mainly focus on two of them, and only one of them is interesting.

iโ€™ll start with what i liked, which is entirely maria. her story, set in 1520s-30s Spain is the only pov that was weight to it. her character was sketched out very cleanly in only 2 1/2 hours given in the audiobook excerpt, and the historical environment as well as the rich setting, grounded the writing in something tangible and propulsive for the narrative direction. watching her try to carve out a life for herself under the misogynistic society she lived in was meaningful to me, even if her attempts arenโ€™t entirely successful.

alice is a largely unremarkable mousy white woman with little to no discerning personality traits aside from clearly having an anxiety disorder. her plot is currently nonexistent, but i did enjoy her scenes with lottie, and i think v.e. schwab is excellent at writing about desire and wanting to be wanted. alice is young, and that is very clear throughout her narrative. if only she managed to be interesting at the same time.

lottie, was not in this excerpt enough for me to be making judgements on her character or plotlines, but i liked her scenes with alice.

overall, iโ€™ll give the excerpt 3.5 but iโ€™m definitely still going to read the novel when it comes out, at least for maria if nothing else.

Didnโ€™t realise it was only a sample
Listen until I had downloaded it. Will purchase it on Audible when itโ€™s released instead

From what I read but the book I was given only read a few chapters. It was very good and the audio narration was done very well. I look forward to reading the rest of this book when it come out.

Itโ€™s still too early for a full review, but this sneak peek was amazing! The three narrators did an excellent job bringing each character to life. The writing is atmospheric and captivating. Iโ€™m really curious to see what happens next!

Um, excuse me. How could you tease us with this stunning 12 chapter preview, and then expect us to just casually wait for the rest of the book to be released??! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, I said stunning. V.E. Schwab has an incredible way with words and creating a tangible atmosphere within her stories. Even without having the full picture of what is going on, I was still hooked from the first chapter. The three narrators are perfection too. Honestly listening might be a superior experience than reading.

I do think I'll wait until I finish the full audiobook to decide my final rating. I will also wait to see how strongly I should recommend this book to others. So far her promo tagline of "Toxic Lesbian Vampires" seems accurate.

But for anyone who loves a dark romantic story, with multiple timelines and POVs, I think this is going to be amazing!

This sneak peak is delightful! I'd been curious about the way the three narrators would intersect and it's done SO well. And their voices are truly perfect for the characters.

Super excited to pick up the book now - and honestly I might snag the audiobook while I'm at it!

Wow.

I am so sad that this was just a sneak peek because I want to see what happens next!

The writing is beautiful and captivating. I am about to add all V.E. Schwab's books to my TBR. I also plan to purchase this audio book when it releases because I could listen to this over and over.

Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, Marisa Calin do a wonderful job with the audiobook narration. The way they portray characters makes me feel like I'm in the room with them.

Review has not been shared to socials due to it being a sample. I don't feel good about submitting a full review on just 12 chapters.

I was able to preview the first 12 chapters of this book via audiobook. I went into the story already excited, as this was a title I had been eyeing. It more than lived up to what I had hoped for the book. I loved how the story wove between the different characters and timelines. The narrator (this can be a huge make or break for me) was great and really brought the characters to life. My only wish was that I was able to hear more than 12 chapters. I cannot wait for the release!

This was phenomenal!!! I can't wait to jump back once the book is out because this sneak peek was to die for. I've had the hardback on pre-order, but after listening to the stunning performance of the narrators, I'll probably pick up the audiobook as well. It had an amazing cast of expert voice actors, and they did an excellent job at bringing this story to life. I was loving the characters, multiple POVs, and multiple timelines and can't wait to see what the rest of the book has in store for us.

I received the sample audiobook of Bury Our Bones In The Midnight Soil by V E Schwab from NetGalley and McMillan Audio and loved it! I was so upset when it ended but I will definitely be picking up where I left off when it releases on June 10, 2025. I loved the narrators and the story itself is so fascinating. Although I canโ€™t definitively give it 5โญ๏ธs since it was only a sample, I have no doubt it will stay that way once I have listened to the entire book as I love all her stories.

As a major fan of V.E Schwab, I had to pick up this audiobook Sneak-Peak as an instant approval on NetGalley! It's narrated by Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin. I had a few regrets listening to the sneak-peak version, because now I have to wait until June 10th when the rest of the book comes out :( But, here's my overview of the audiobook! Which I ABSOLUTELY loved!!
OVERVIEW: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is a genre-defying tale that intertwines the lives of three women across centuries: Maria in the 16th-century Spain, Charlotte in 19th-century London, and Alice in 21st-century Boston. Each narrative explores themes of hunger, love, and rage, connected through the metaphor of soil and roots, culminating in a sapphic vampire saga that delves into identity and desire.
The audiobook is narrated by Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin. I love these voice actors as they fit the role of each girl, the voice actor for Alice has a Scottish accent. The narration enhances the immersive experience, and although I got approved for the book I feel like I need to finish this story through the audiobook with these narrators. Meaning I'll have to wait until it comes out, totally worth it
Compared to Schwab's previous work like The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue , which also explores immortality, death, and identity, this novel is described by the author as its "Feral older sister," suggesting a more intense and unapologetic exploration of its themes. I'm all here for it!
