Obsessed! Gorgeous prose and an enthralling listen. The narrators are fantastic! Julia Whalen stuns as usual. This was my first time listening to Katie Leung. I absolutely love her narration of Alice’s perspective!

I cannot wait to continue this story.

I can tell this will be one of my absolute favorite reads and it is killing me to be able to finish the audiobook right now. I felt hooked right from the beginning. It was easy to get connected to the characters and immersed in the world. The audiobook narrators are wonderful and expressive. I cannot wait for the full audiobook to be released. I think this book will be amazing as an immersive read with both the audiobook and physical book.

The first 12 chapters are just not enough I’m literally feigning for the rest.

Alice for me was so connectable right off the bat.

Longing to be a more true version of herself and unapologetic/confident.

V.e.Schwab just knows how to take a story and make you feel it to your core!

Thankyou netgalley and publishers for the early sneak peek pleassseee please be June!!!

The way I am even more hyped for this to be released! The narrators are incredible. The lush narrative that is experienced in this small section is fantastic! I can already tell that I am going to be obsessed with Lottie. The perfect way to whet the appetite.

ALC sneak peek review, so this is not for the full book, just enough to have me salivating for more. Since it’s an audio, I’ll review in 2 parts, story and narration.

Story - set in two timelines (so far) and voiced by 3 characters (again, so far), we’re first introduced to Maria, a young 16th century Spanish woman who is wily and clever and full of plans to escape and rage at her lot in life when she encounters a mysterious widow who offers her more. Alice, a college student in 2019, whose life is thrown into a tailspin after a one night stand. And Charlotte, a cloistered 19th century English girl who is sent to London after an indiscretion where she’s offered a choice.

When Schwab toured promoting Fragile Threads, I was lucky enough to attend one of her events with my sister. She talked about this book, lesbian vampires across time filled with rage. I knew it was something I had to read.

I loved the distinct voices each character has that are woven through with similarities caused by their situations and desires. The worlds they live in may not always accept them as they are but they’re determined to be more, thrive and make their own paths. Charlotte is the character we spent the least time with in the sneak peek and I’m so eager to learn more about her story, about all of their stories. When we leave off, Maria has just encountered the widow after 10 years and she’s yearning for escape from her horrid in-laws and worthless husband. Alice is hunting for answers after a one-night stand leaves her physically ill with little memory of the encounter. What’s next? I can’t wait to find out!

Narration - each character is delivered with a distinct voice helped by the accents that they hold. The delivery is succinct and trusts the reader to find the anger, sarcasm and delight that each character experiences.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ALC! All opinions are my own.

Love love love! Perfect narrators, you can’t go wrong with anything Julia Whalen!

I’m so sad that this is just a sneak peek, I need to be able to finish this asap! But the writing style is amazing and the story is intriguing.
I can’t wait to continue!!

Thankyou Macmillan Audio for this sneak peek!!

Completely hooked after listening to the Sneak Peek, so sad I don’t have the full audiobook rn.

I love listening to audiobooks while I run but can be very sensitive to narrators voices. I really loved the narrators for Bury Our Bones in The Midnight Soil, felt like they were perfect for the book and the setting.

Definitely intend to finish the audiobook now that I’ve started listening, I’m fully invested in the story and characters and loved the narrators.

I am hooked! I couldn't believe that I had reached the end of the audio recording sneak peek and I immediately had to search for a way to finish this book. The narrators are phenomenal and bring the story to life in a believable and enthralling way. The story is interesting and suspenseful. Sometimes when a story shifts points of view between several characters I can get bored with some of the perspectives but so far I am interested in each story and want to know more about Maria, Alice, Lottie, and Sabine.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for access to this audiobook sneak peek.

I… enjoyed this. The prose is great, the narrators all bring the characters alive, and were without a doubt the best part of this book.

If I had the whole book, I don’t think I would DNF, but since I don’t have the whole book, I’m not sure I will go out of my way to read the rest of it.

This book is very vibes based, and is lacking a straightforward plot. You don’t really need more plot, as I was happy following the three protagonists through their days, but it does mean if I put the book down for a significant amount of time (and I have to, because the book isn’t out yet), the book isn’t going to be first in my thoughts.

The strongest narrative is Maria. She is in the middle of a loveless marriage in the 1500s, and I can tell it is going somewhere. Something is going to happen… I just don’t know that I will remember anything in a month when the book comes out.

I thought I was excited for Bury our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V. E. Schwab before reading a free sample of it, I’m thrilled now. I received a sample of the audio book from NetGally. It was the longest sample I’ve ever gotten of a book. The narrators were great! I’m happy there’s lesbian representation in this story as well.
I swear Schwab’s writing gets better with every book. In just the few chapters I was given I became completely immersed in the character’s lives. There are three different plots going on. The sample ended at such a good spot. I will be finishing this book as soon as it is in myk Audible library.
If you liked The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, I think you’ll like this one. The writing felt similar. It was giving me paranormal vibes, alongside historical fiction. I cannot wait until I get to the Horror part, because that’s what I feel this author does best.

I am SO bummed that this is only a sneak peek. I flew through the chapters and when it cut off, I forgot I only got a certain amount.

I do have the kindle book as well, but haven’t been pushed to read it just yet. Now that I have gotten into it, I will surely be finishing it soon.

It gives Addie Larue vibes, which I absolutely LOVE. I can’t wait to keep the story going.

Sneak Peek Review: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab
Only 12 chapters in—and I’m already hooked. This sneak peek was haunting, lyrical, and completely immersive. The narrators’ voices are gorgeous and set the perfect tone for Schwab’s beautifully eerie storytelling. In just two hours, it’s left me aching for the full release. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to read a book this badly. Bring on the rest—I’m ready!

This sneak peek made me even more excited for the release! I can already tell this will be one of my new favorites. It’s written so beautifully and tells a very unique story. V.E. Schwab is known for having a different way of story telling. This is no exception. From these first couple of chapters, I can already tell this will be a story of love, friendship, powerful women and broken expectations.

Is 2025 the year of the vampire?
This was such a good audiobook especially after listening to TBHH.
And I definitely have been craving a book like this. I don't usually preorder books but this is one I really want too.

I first read this ARC last year and was absolutely obsessed. I love audiobooks, especially for when it come to rereads, and was eager to know who would be narrating because I knew I would absolutely be adding it to my regular rotation of “airee’s having trouble sleeping” audiobooks.

When the announcement that @justjuliawhelan and @marisacalin would be voicing Sabine and Charlotte respectively, I knew that this audio was going to be phenomenal.

Julia brings an earthy, desperate edge to Maria/Sabine. We first meet Maria at ten years old and this sneak peak brings her to twenty years old. Whelan shows this growth from child to adult, from spirited daughter to caged wife.

In this sneak peak, we don’t get much from Charlotte, but Marisa shows us the longing for attachment that is at the core of Charlotte’s story. There’s a wistful element that Calin brings which is so important for Charlotte.

While I’ve listened to other audiobooks with Whelan and Calin as narrators, I wasn’t sure what to expect from @_katieleung_ who is our narrator for Alice. With Alice being our modern-day protagonist, her experiences are the most relatable, being a freshman in college and feeling like a fish out of water. Leung delivers a grief-filled, desperately-lonely-while-surrounded-by-others performance. I am so jealous of those that get to experience the audiobook as their first read primarily due to Leung’s narration of Alice. I was already filled with so much sorrow and pain from her story, but hearing it will be so much harder.

This audio is a must listen and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend people use the audiobook as their first read of the book.

Thank you to net galley and the publisher for this 12 chapter preview!

I have have been doing more audiobooks lately and sometimes the voices just don't match up with the ton of the story or how i invision the characters but this one absolutely does! The voice actor has great range and does different voices very well!

Atmospheric and already setting the tone for the rest of the book! This one is set up similarly to addie la rou so i feel like fans of that will already enjoy this! I am so excited to get my hands on the already pre-order copy and I will probably be picking up the audiobook too!

Sneak Peak charts 1-12
I was luck enough to receive the first 12 chapters of the new VE Schwab book and I am jumping with joy. If you loved (Addie) than this book is going to be perfect for you.
We have similar vibes and time jumping plot. I love the main characters already they have pulled me in and made a home in my heart. The first chapters set the scene make you need to know what's going to happen next and how they are linked. Things start getting interesting and I am so excited to see where they go. I am dying to finish this book. Going to request the rest right now.

Many thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the free sneak peek of this audiobook! Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin do a fantastic job narrating this story and pulling the reader into the narrative!!! I can hardly wait for the full edition to come out!

One of my most favorite books is The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. I requested this book in hopes that it would be similar as I am not a huge sci-fi fan of the author's other genre books. It took a few chapters to get into the story but wow! When the sample ended, I thought my audio player had cut off! I was so disappointed that the story was just a sample! The book is going to be phenomenal and I can hardly wait for its publication date!!!

My favorite parts of interview with the vampire are when Louis and lestat are being toxic, so this is perfect for me. Even though this was just a preview, Scwab sets up to novel wonderfully right from the start and gives it such a strong tone. Can't wait to read the rest!
