Even the sneak peak of this one was incredibly exciting to get. I have since listened to the full novel. This one is sure to please fans of Addie LaRue. It really felt like a different version of that. I think the story could have been a bit shorter and I found it a little repetitive. It's crazy to me that Julia Whelan was, somehow the weak link here. Normally I adore her narration. But I ended up finding the other narrators much better fits to who they were voicing.

I’m a huge fan of the publisher bringing 3 different narrators for the characters. It makes it easy to understand what’s going on and whose POV you are in.

Julia Whelan is always phenomenal in every audiobook I’ve heard. She has the sharp, wit to her. Katie Leung is an amazing actress that brings Alice’s self-deprecation to life. Marisa Calin bring sophistication and vulnerability to charlotte. I can’t wait to hear more!

This sneak peek was a great way to dive into this rich, beautiful world created by Schwab.. So far, the story and the characters are intriguing and I can’t wait to listen to the rest. The narrators are also fantastic.

So I’ve been trying to wait patiently for VE Schwab’s next book and we are now just over a week away. I was delighted to find a sneak peak of the first 12 audiobook chapters on NetGalley (thank you Macmillan!).

With only that amount to go on, I can tell the audiobook is incredibly well done. There are several timelines going on (spanning 1500s to present day), and I love that there are 3 different narrators to help differentiate between the characters and timelines. Of course I knew Our Queen Julia Whalen would be perfection, but good news - the other narrators are amazing for this too. By the end of the sneak peek I have learned just a bit about the characters and their worlds. Of course it was getting super intriguing right when the sneak peak ended. Slightly torturous, but now I am extra excited for release day on June 10!👏

I’ll be back after that with thoughts on the full book!

Update after finishing: Yep, this one is worth the hype. The entire story was captivating. Highly recommend reading the physical book along with the audio because the prose is like poetry and the narrators brought it to life. Brava all around! 🥀

If I weren’t already a huge fan of VE Schwab this book made me a really fall in love with her writing. A book queer book with vampires was not what I thought her next book was going to be but I’m glad it’s here.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. The writing, the plot, the characters, and everything else was done beautifully. I also want to give an applause to the narrators. They did a great job bringing the characters to life.

I didn’t realize this was just a sneak peek!!! Nooo! I love Julia Whelan and adored Addie LaRue so I can’t wait to listen to the full version. This was not enough and I love that there are multiple narrators! I’ll be listening to this masterpiece in full very soon! Thank you NetGalley ans Macmillan for this teaser!

Even though this was only a sneak peek it left me reeling. VE Schwab is a master storyteller and I think the narrators do such an amazing job of bringing even more life to this story. Each character was given such distinct personality through their voice. I fell so deeply into this book that I was shocked when the sample came to an end. This sneak peek is what led me to finishing the story via audio.

I only got a sneak peak of the audio but I can tell I’m going to be obsessed with this book. The narrator was so good.

Though I wish I had been approved for the full version this was one of my most anticipated reads of the year so definitely had to take advantage of the SNEAK PEAK. I don’t know how it will all play out but I am obsessed so far and cannot wait to see how the story ends. V.E. Schwab writing style is one of my favorites and this story hasn’t disappointed to this point. I love the multi POV and it drives me crazy but I also love seeing how it all comes together. The audio is fantastic and highly recommend! I will be continuing the audio and most likely doing a tandem read with the physical as well. Will post a review on other reviewing sites once I have read the entire book. I foresee a 4 or 5 star for this one though!

This was a great read. I enjoyed Addie LaRue, but this is better. I will say that I think it was maybe a little too long and that kept it from a 5 star but I loved the complexity, humanity and villainy of all the characters.

This sneak peek was enough to make me want to read/listen to the rest of the book! I immediately placed a request for a copy from my local library. At first, I was worried about being able to juggle jumping back and forth with the different characters' perspectives, but having multiple audiobook narrators made it practically seamless. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the book has in store and will definitely recommend it to others!

I previous listened to V.E. Schwab's The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue and enjoyed the book and the narration of the audiobook and looked forward to the audiobook of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. Schwab's writing is vivid, not only in the descriptions of the scenes, settings, and time periods in which we meet each of the lead characters and of the characters themselves. She shows in each of the arcs of the women their experiences across time (1500s, 1800s, and 2010s) and how they seek to go against expectations set before them. The narrators, Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin, delivered great performances for each of the characters in the novel well and brought the story to life. The pacing of their delivery of the story was strong as well.

This is one of those stories that from the first 5 minutes you realize you’ll never forget this book and regardless of how many times you re-read it you will always find something new to dissect. Schwab’s writing is beautiful with patience and flow that puts you in a trance before she rips you apart. This story is riveting! The narration for this audiobook was beautifully done. I appreciated the timing and tone changes. A book for my forever shelf!

Interesting! Can’t wait to read the whole book!
This will be my first long length V.E. Schwab. I read Galant and that was super cool and creepy. So I’m interested to see how this book turns out.

This book is ideal for readers who enjoy dark, emotionally charged fantasy weaving together historical settings and sapphic themes across time through a mysterious, vampiric lens.

5 stars

Format: ebook and audiobook

Audiobook review: 5🌟 these three women did an amazing job. Honestly no notes. Julia Whelan is a pro. The narrators for Alice and Lottie both had accents (Scottish for Alice, English for Lottie) which made listening to them easy as you could easily distinguish the characters. I dream of Sabine’s low velvety voice.

Wow. This book is such a vibe. Three women, three timelines, vampires, feminine rage, sapphic romance….. YES PLEASE.

I forgot how absolutely immersive and beautiful VE Schwab’s writing is. This book is well written and makes you think. This is unlike any other books I’ve read with vampires. These women are complicated. They feel trapped in their patriarchal societies. They crave freedom from themselves and their expectations. They are full of rage, revenge, and want.

This book feels so emotionally raw and vulnerable and this is what makes this book so compelling. She touches on themes such as grief, humanity, hunger and longing.

The writing juuuuuust on the border of excessively flowery. And I really thought there would be more of a fight at the end. The ending felt slightly rushed since we learned so much about Alice just in those last couple chapters.

If you loved The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue then you would probably love this book just as much. Addie La Rue is one of my all time favorites and so it’s no surprise to me that I loved this book.

I never wanted this book to end and has given me motivation to continue with the rest of her books!

Thank you to NetGalley and Tor publishing for the eARC. And also thank you to Macmillan Audio for the partial ALC.

In just 12 chapters I was absolutely CAPTIVATED!! I loved this so much. It gave Addie LaRue vibes right off the bat, but with a twist that was to die for!! I actually ended up reading the full novel shortly after and it was remarkable!!

I only had a sneak peak of this audio but I absolutely loved what I was able to listen too! I can't wait to finish reading this story.

the narration was beautiful done

What an intriguing sneak peak. It's hard to give this a full five star review since this only covers the first 20% or so of the book, but between the lyrical flow of Schwab's prose and the narrators' performance, I'm hoping my enjoyment will only go up!
