Thank you to V.E. Schwab and Tor for this sneak peak of the audio!! I loved it so much that I ended up buying the full audio to immersion read with my physical pre-order when it came in. Schwab is one of my favorite authors, and this has not been a letdown in any way. The characters are so well fleshed out, and the prose is beautiful. If you think toxic lesbian vampires sound like a fun time, I'd highly recommend picking it up. It gives the unhinged vibes of Schwab's Vicious, combined with the beautiful prose of Addie Larue, and I am having such a a great time with it.

V. E. SCHWAB DOES IT AGAIN! Thank you to NetGally for the preview.

This was a beautiful gothic slow burn romance.

Great narration by Julia Whelan (of course). I do wish this had been a full audiobook to get a feel for the other narrators, but I was invested enough in the story by this sneak peek to dive directly into my kindle copy from NetGalley.

Thank you V.E. Schwab, Tor, and NetGalley for the ARC of the first 12 chapters! The VAs are so good and it must have felt so nice for Katie Leung to voice a Scottish character. The story follows 3 lesbian vampires—20 year old Maria, and 18 year olds Charlotte and Alice—who were born in different time periods. Queer vampire stories are something that will never bore me. I love the metaphor of hunger for blood for human desire, and Schwab does a great job with this theme and expressing throughout what each woman longed for. I like how Schwab describes sapphic yearning and her exploration of how expression of queerness changes through the centuries.

It's a long book with a slower start but it did get so juicy that I itched to listen to it. Entertaining listen but I don't think it blew me away. I'm a bit unhappy with the ending bc it feels abrupt, unrealistic, and rushed. I wish they had all met sooner in the book.

Oh my gosh, I'm so happy I got this sneak peek of the audiobook. The narrators are fantastic. The story has drawn me in completely. I'm off to buy the audiobook immediately so I can continue with it. I have the hardback too, but the audiobook is too good to not have it.

⭐️⭐️ // early impression review
I listened to the two-hour sample of Bury Your Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab, and as of now, I’m just not feeling invested in the story. The writing is lovely as always, but something about the pacing or emotional pull isn’t quite grabbing me yet. That said, I did buy the book—so I’m planning to read the full version and see if it picks up. Hoping it’s just a slow burn and that I’ll end up loving it more as I get deeper into the story.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillin Audio for this sneak peek of Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. I'm not usually one for vampire stories, or at least that's what I thought until I listened to V. E. Schwab's latest. These first 12 chapters have inspired me to buy the book. And I will be buying it on audio because the narration by Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin is impeccable. I absolutely engaged with the characters due to the combination of rich storytelling and narration. I will provide a full review after I finish the book, but if it continues as it has started, I expect 5 stars.

Wow! This was beautiful narration. I love how each of the narrator really emphasized each of the women’s personalities through inflections and accents. I love this so much I bought the full length audio.

Story wise I was immediately sucked in by the mystique of the characters and also their individual struggles.

I can not wait to finish the rest! I will be back to review it in it's entirety when I am done! So far I am not too sure. Big shoes to fill considering the Dark magic series is one of my favorite of all times.

I received a 13-chapter studio teaser from Net Galley. Just enough to get you well-engaged. Luckily, I already had this book on preorder! I haven't finished it yet, but V.E. Schwab is an autobuy author at this point, and I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Perfection. A masterful blend of genres and breathtaking lovers to enemies that has left me utterly shattered. This is a blood soaked revelation that now sits proudly in my pantheon of greatest vampire stories of the decade. Even as I write this review, I’m still pacing, completely overwhelmed, unsure how to process the emotional whirlwind this story unleashed. What I didn’t anticipate was the profound, inescapable connection I felt to each character; the way they would feel like mirrors, reflecting pieces of myself I didn’t even know were there. Yes, they are deeply flawed, but that’s precisely what made them so achingly real. V.E. Schwab’s brilliance lies in her ability to craft characters who don’t just leap off the page, but burrow into your soul. This isn’t a story driven by plot, it’s a study of humanity, immortality, and above all, hunger. The kind of hunger that gnaws at your bones, the desperate craving for something just out of reach. That longing is what ultimately bound me to these characters, making their triumphs and downfalls resonate so powerfully. At its core, this is a tale of fate, choice, and the irreversible ripple of a single decision. The lives of three women collide and intertwine in ways that are as inevitable as they are devastating. And that subtle, delicious nod to Addie LaRue? A perfect little gift for longtime fans. This book didn’t just move me, it rearranged something inside me. Long after the final page, its echoes are lingering, haunting and beautiful. A story like this doesn’t leave you. It becomes a part of you.

P.S. I did an immersion (physical + audio) read. The audiobook was fantastic! I absolutely recommend experiencing this story with both if you can, it’s transformative!

Beautiful. Each characters voice is so distinct, and the writing is everything I've come to love from V.E. Schwab - smooth, smart, and devastating. What a delight to be able to listen to this sneak peek. I cannot wait to devour this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for a preview of this audiobook.

V.E. Schwab isn’t my favorite author—I usually find her overhyped. But “Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil” changed my mind. Her exploration of feminine rage across time periods was spot-on and painfully relevant. She captured each character’s grief and struggle authentically. Nothing felt fake or written for shock value. These stories will stick with me. While Schwab still isn’t my go-to author, this story earned my respect and will stay with me for a long time.

Loved these first few chapters! V.E. Schwab is one of my favourite authors and I cannot wait to finish this book. Not too much happens in this sneak peek, but it generates so many questions that I am looking forward to finding answers to.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for sending me a “sneak peak” of Bury our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E Schwab in exchange for review.

Reading the full book is definitely on my list ASAP because this was lovely. I appreciate that this preview of the book was longer than previous sample audiobooks I’ve listened to.
I love that this audiobook is following multiple main characters all with different narrators and accents, that makes it wonderfully easy to follow with audio alone.
I’ll definitely report back once I’ve finished this book because this small taste wasn’t enough I need to deep dive and luckily I believe this is already out.
