Thank you to Macmillan Audio for this audiobook sneak peek. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is one of my most anticipated reads of the year. This preview only made me more excited to read and experience the whole book. V. E. Schwab’s writing is so atmospheric and captivating, I love the introduction to the three characters of Maria, Alice and Lottie, and I can’t wait to find out how their stories unfold!

Absolutely FABULOUS! Everything I had hoped for and more and I am even more ecstatic to read this in full ESPECIALLY with audio when it releases. The writing is hauntingly beautiful and flows just like Addie’s book. I loved getting the narrator from Addie and the second voice is absolutely able to match that energy. I devoured this sneak peek and have ZERO critique, it’s masterfully narrated with timing that matches the prose. The world is easy to step into and investment in it was immediate for me. Lovers of Addie will not be able to put this down! What a joy to have that feeling again I only get from Addie, but in a fresh, new and exciting world I am dying to unpack! For me this will be a must read in audio, it’s just so alive!
Thank you so much for this sneak preview V.E. Schwab, Macmillain Audio, and NetGalley

This is going to be so good! Thank you so much for the sneak peak. The narrators did a fabulous job. I love the Addie LaRue vibes! Ugh I don't want to wait til June!

i will preface this by saying i've only read addie larue. however, this sneak peek makes me so excited to read the full novel next month following along with my audiobook while reading my physical copy. more specifically, the first couple of chapters set up the ways in which women accept the gender roles forced upon them and because this feels like a slower paced novel, all the little cracks make the character's starting arc so intriguing. can't wait and especially love that julia whelan is a narrator on this as she's my favorite.

I knew to have high expectations, this preview has me so excited to read this book!!! Schwab knows how to build beautiful imagery, deep characters, and awe inducing storylines! I know this book wont disappoint! Thank you for the preview!

This sneak peek has me so pumped and excited to read this story, and even more excited to listen to the audio. The narrator is setting a perfect vibe that I can’t wait to get lost into! June 10th cannot come soon enough.

Ok well this was a brilliant idea - releasing just the first 12 chapters of the audiobook - because now I need to hear the rest. I was unsure about this book at first, when I read reviews of the ebook. But this has sold me.
The narrators do a beautiful job. I consumed it as soon as I could!
Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the ALC, I can't wait for the full audiobook to release!

The only bad thing about this book is that it's a preview and I am feral for the rest of it! I can't wait to pick it up on release and the narrator did a fantastic job!

Audiobook sample of the first 13 chapter provided by Netgalley and Macmillan audio, very much appreciated! Already loving this story from my NYCC arc and i think the audio book is excellent. The choice to use a different narrator for each character works really well here and really helps the story come alive. I think these were great choice to fit the gothic lyrical tone of this story! Full review to come once I finish the book! So far 5 stars

I never knew that I needed a book about toxic lesbian vampires in my life.
This review is only for the first 12 chapters, but I can certainly confirm that I am hooked! I absolutely love the three separate narrators for each main character. I usually have a hard time with female narrators, however each of these women have done beautifully from what I've heard so far.
I can confirm that I instantly had to run to preorder a physical copy and will absolutely be continuing with the audiobook when it's out.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil weaves together three timelines: 1532 Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Spain; 1827 London, England; and 2019 Boston, MA. Maria feels like a pawn in the chess games of men; when presented with a chance, she’ll brave the danger of men she doesn’t know than the pain of the ones she does. Charlotte’s mistakes earn her a one-way trip to London, but freedom might not turn out all it’s cracked up to be. Meanwhile, Alice is on a search for answers about her past (and revenge, while she’s at it).
“This is a story about life—how it ends, and how it starts.”
Schwab is a master of description; the writing is immersive. You can visualize the setting to the point that you can *feel* it. This sneak peek did EXACTLY what it intended to do; it gives just enough line to hook the reader and have them setting a clock counting down to release day.
As for the audiobook, this is incredible narration work by an experienced cast. Their accents add layers to the story in a way that has convinced me I need to listen to the audiobook in its entirety upon release. That's the power of a great audio performance, to add to the text in such a way that it becomes a part of the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advance review audio sneak peak!

Omg, I listened to a sample of the first 12 chapters and I can already tell this will be a 5 star read. I loved Addie Larue and this gives the exact same vibes. The writing style of VE Schwab is exquisite. I love her prose and how she approaches a story. It just sucks me into the world building and storyline so quickly.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the partial alc!
Okay, I need to review the story and the audiobook separately. The story: 5 stars, incredible, I can't wait for more. The audiobook? I had some issues, and this will definitely be a book I get a physical copy of instead.
***The Story: 5 stars***
This was riveting. I adored the characters, all three of them so different but also so relatable, so sapphic and so well-written. The description was also a delight.
This was only a small sample of the first 13% of the audiobook (yes, I broke out the calculator), so it's hard to comment on the plot. Two of our POV characters have yet to become vampires. But the setup is gripping. There are immediate stakes in all three storylines, and I'm really looking forward to finding out how the plot develops.
***The Audiobook Narration: 3 stars***
The audiobook has three different narrators for the three different POV characters, which is a definite plus. In general, their narration is engaging, and I appreciate that the Scottish character Alice is narrated by a Scottish person (my favourite narrator!), and the English character Lottie by an English person.
However, I find bad attempts at accents very off-putting in audiobooks, and that was unfortunately the case with María, our POV character from northern Spain (but narrated by an American).
Spanish is used fairly frequently in María's sections, both in small phrases and place names. I'm afraid that the narrator's Spanish pronunciation made me actually physically wince when I first heard it. In addition to having an obvious accent, I think the narrator was trying to recreate a Latin American Spanish accent rather than a Castilian Spanish one? There's a huge difference in pronunciation. But regardless of the reason, it meant that on multiple occasions I had to rewind the audiobook to understand the narrator's Spanish (and for context, I'm a bilingual Castilian Spanish speaker). It's also ironic because the narrator also chose to give all the characters strong Spanish accents in English, and the combination of this with her bad pronunciation felt almost like caricatures.
I think that if you don't speak Spanish, this won't bother you. But if you do speak Spanish, especially Castilian Spanish, definitely check out the audiobook sample before purchasing. I would not be able to listen to a whole audiobook of this.

I started this sneak peek IMMEDIATELY. Was this cruel and unusual punishment to only give me the first 13 chapters? Yes. Did I love it? Yes. Are these narrators incredible? ABSOLUTELY. I cannot wait for July!

As if I wasn't obsessed enough with this book!
Thank you for this opportunity to listen to a couple of chapters. And now I'm hurting because I need to keep listening.
The narrators are amazing! I've never been drawn into an audiobook this easily.
Please please give me an the toxic lesbian vampires!

I couldn't help but start this immediately. I haven't read a VE Schwab book since Adie LaRue and I have to admit I'm intrigued. Schwab is a the top of her game when it comes to the craft of storytelling. The performances in this audiobook is great - the cast is varied and conveys the characters' accents perfectly.

It’s perfect. I can’t wait to get my hands on this and finish. The performance is incredible and I look forward to devouring the rest of Bury Our Bones both in physical and audio.

Audio Narration:
MY GAWD THIS IS SO GOOD!
The audio narration is absolute perfection.
Each narrator brings just a distinct touch to their character. I am obsessed.
Perfect pitch, perfect pacing, perfect pausing, perfectly done “voices” for other characters, PERFECT EVERYTHING!
The audio narration makes this book feel so haunting and sexy. I want to dive into it, literally - just LET ME IN THIS BOOK!
As for the story itself? I’m intrigued and completely desperate for more.
If you need me I’m going to be crying into my pillow because I don’t have the full book available to me.
Actually no, If you need me I’ll be buried in the midnight soil — wake me when it’s June 10.

This audio sampler was an absolute delight! The story weaves together three captivating and unique narratives. Each mesmerizing and magnetic. I was hooked me from the very beginning and cannot wait to dive deeper into this world and its characters!
Thank you to Macmillan audio for the sampler!

I devoured this, I'm almost torn with the fact that i now have to wait for the rest.
It's easily going to be a 5 star read.
