My friends like this series so much because it's dark and unpredictable. This isn't a gentle world but there are brilliant heroes. This is long for a sampler and starts with a short catch up, and then the story-- I really like Kristoff's writing; his prose raises his stories higher. These books are great for people wanting real danger from their vampires.

Thank you for allowing me the chance to read this sampler! I can’t wait to see where this story goes! The writing in this series is so beautiful and the world feels so lived in. I had a hard time getting back into this because of how the last one ended. I had to remember all the characters, but once I got into it, oh my god it was so fast paced. I just love how this story is built up and again the writing keeps bringing me back. The only thing that bums me out is the illustrations. I don’t understand why they were changed. The other ones in the previous books were beautiful and had character. These new ones are very realistic but there isn’t as much character to them. Thank you again for allowing me the chance to read this sampler! I cannot wait to read the whole book on its release!

Welp, that was quick. I ate that sampler up like it was the smallest, most delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned bite of steak to ever exist. It was almost cruel giving us this bit of EotD and then then saying "No More, you now have to wait."

Hyperbole aside, this was a treat. It felt so good being back with Gabe and the band, picking up right where it left off. I can't wait for the rest of the book now.

Even though this was a small taste of what was too come in the final book. I easily devoured what was offered.
It will be hard to stay patient, but what was offered was amazing

Not going to say much other than prepare thy self. The pacing is good, the plot is plotting and the artwork is stunning. I can't wait to read the entirety of this book in November.

This is my favorite series of all time, and stepping back into this world has still already shattered my heart. The recap at the beginning was really helpful to job my memory of everything we went through in Empire of the Damned and it helped open the door to the rest of the story. Reuniting with beloved characters was a warm, fragile hug and I’m positively devastated with worry over what is to come. The vibes are dark, the mood is darker, and I am terrified.

What a fabulous sample!

This sampler got me excited for the final installment of what is now becoming one of my favorite series. A perfect blend of horror, fantasy and mystery, this series is what makes vampires scary again!

When I requested I was not aware that it was just a sampler. But I still read the available chapters and I am super excited for the book. This is the third book in the Empire of the Vampires Series which is a dark fantasy with gothic vibes and some horror elements, set in the world where the sun has been concealed. The story follows Gabriel de León, a fallen vampire hunter, as he seeks to end the endless night. It features vampires, a war-torn world, and a quest for a holy relic called the Dior. I am very much into the themes of this series and hence will be waiting eagerly for the book to release in November. There isn't much I can review at this point but the first few chapters have me very excited for the book.

I did not see the "Sampler" when I downloaded this originally. I will come back and update when I finish the whole book. I'm giving a high rating since I feel like it's going to be amazing!

140 days until I can breathe again. Why, Jay Kristoff, why!

Having the chance to read a sampler of my most-awaited book of 2025 brought me tons of joy... and excruciating pain. How am I supposed to exist until I can read the rest?? So far, this book lived up to my every expectations.

Jay Kristoff will never disappoint me, he is such an amazing writer and this series is one of my absolute favorites. I am so excited for this release, and this sample just made me even more excited!! But also bittersweet to be ending this series 🥲 15 Chapters was not enough I need it all! 😭

However, NetGally has disappointed me because this is only a sample and they didn't originally notify readers that it was a sample until you get to the end of the chapter 15 and it says "Thanks for reading the sample" 😭 Then they took no ownership when we tried to contact them. They really tried to casually update it on their site AFTER the ARCS went out. Shame on you netgalley do better! 🥺 this was cruel

I will start this by saying that this is my most anticipated book of the year, and I have zero doubt it’s going to be a 5 star read. This is easily one of my favorite series of all time. However, when I requested this book it was not labeled as a sampler, or I would not have requested it. I cannot invest time into reading 200 pages, and then have to reread it again in November when the full novel is released because my brain does not retain things. The fact that this was a sampler should have been clear when this was originally posted for request. My rating here isn’t a reflection of the book or the author, but of the fact that I don’t feel I have anything to review at the moment.

While this is only a sampler, I can give the vibes of a review.

Well, this was incredibly disappointing as I wasn't expecting this to be just a sampler of the book instead. When you request a book on here, you expect to be able to read the whole thing and review it properly, but that wasn't the case this time around.

I'm giving this a 1/5 solely because it was a sampler and I cannot write a proper review based on a sampler.

I have got to get better at reading the descriptions to avoid previews and samplers, so I can stop requesting these teases!
However - this one jumped right into it and I absolutely cannot wait to see what Kristoff has in store for us next!

when I requested this, I was so excited to have gotten it and then it was updated to sampler out of nowhere. while I appreciate the sample, wish it was the whole book, since that wasnt advertised, big fan of the series though.

When I requested this book, it did not say it was sampler and I was under the impression this was a full novel. It is not, and it appears netgalley has since added the correct verbage. I will be waiting to read and review the full novel and many of my followers are eager to hear my opinion, so it's a shame I have to wait..

I will say I love the other two books and talk about them all the time and recommend them to customers constantly. I'm very excited for the final installment and I'm sure it will be a five star read. Now only if we can get a movie or TV series out of it...
