Tod Goldberg’s latest is based on an interesting premise. A brother and sister come up with a very detailed plan to rob the safe deposit boxes at the law firm where he works (many of which are owned by unsavory characters) in a kind of twisted, part self-serving, part Robin Hood sort of way. And then the plan goes cattywompus (bonus points to Goldberg for managing to use that word more than once in this book!). What happens from there is wild, and it’s fascinating to explore the consequences of the outcome (years after the fact) from various characters’ points of view.

The central storyline kept me engaged even through some of the side trips that felt like, well, side trips (kind of unnecessary, a little underdeveloped, a bit too disconnected from the rest of what was happening, maybe just a reason to include some more good old fashioned gangsters because Goldberg likes his gangsters?). And the end felt abrupt. I definitely know how some of it worked out, but there were some storylines that felt incomplete.

Overall, the book is a fun ride through an interesting premise and I’d definitely recommend it!

Thank you for the opportunity to preview Only Way Out.
This is a very good book filled with bad cops, bookies, criminals and maybe a few good guys.
Down on his luck, a cop who owes a lot of money on the street must come up with a plan quickly and another man who may have a great way to get money from his employer where he knows a lot of money is conveniently located.
A convergence of bad and good luck brings everyone together and survival may not be for the fittest. It may be for the most lucky.
Well written and great characters. 3.5!stars

I absolutely loved this book: the name and cover drew me in first. I love a book that is fast paced, hard to put down, character development. This kept me entertained and I finished in under 24 hours.
