If you're looking for a charming, feel-good romance with a picturesque Scottish setting, *Kilts and Kisses at Highland Hall* delivers just that.

Rebecca—Bex—is an accountant sent on an unusual assignment to the Highlands, tasked with untangling a financial mess at a grand castle. The accounts are in shambles, and the sheer magnitude of the job leaves her wondering if she’ll ever see the light at the end of the tunnel. Enter Duncan, a man nursing a broken heart, whose quiet yet meaningful gestures—like giving Bex earplugs to help her sleep—prove that she’s anything but a rebound to him.

Their slow-burn romance is sweet, with plenty of small, thoughtful moments that make you root for them. While the book is undeniably adorable, I found myself craving a little more depth to the story. Certain elements felt underdeveloped, and some lingering questions went unanswered. That being said, since this is the first in a series, I’m hopeful that future books will add layers to the characters and their world.

Overall, a fun, cozy read perfect for anyone who loves a romance with a hint of Scottish magic!

I enjoyed this book! If you're a fan of Hallmark romance movies, this is definitely a book for you! I enjoyed all of the main characters, although Bex was sometimes a bit frustrating with her hesitance in letting Duncan in, but it all worked out in the end. Although I have to say I did not see the little plot twist coming in the end! The story made me laugh out loud and gave me the warm fuzzies in all the right places, which is something that I definitely look for in my romantic comedies. The setting of Scotland was also lovely, it actually felt like you were there. I will definitely be reading more by this author, and I give it four out of five stars!

"Kilts and Kisses at Highland Hall" is the epitome of nuts and bolts romantic fiction and if that's what you're looking for, there is a lot to like. Bex is sent from London to a remote castle in Scotland by her work. Once there, she has a bonafide meet cute with the handsome groundskeeper, Duncan. She's unlucky in love and he's had his heart broken, there's sweet dogs, a massive cat, some no nonsense found family and a grumpy Laird. If these things are for you, you'd do a lot worse than to read this. One thing I found harder to forgive is that the ending was very abrupt and oddly open ended. Hannah Lynn appears to have a prolific back catalogue so maybe some of these questions will be answered in a later novel but for the casual reader such as myself, this seemed a misstep.

A really fun story. Bex is a London accountant so determined to climb the corporate ladder that when her boss asks her to go to a little village in Scotland for two months, she agrees. When she eventually gets there, Highland Hall and it's owner are nothing like she was expecting! And as for Duncan, the groundskeeper, well, he's also a big surprise. Between an adoring dog, Duncan's meddling stepsister, a large cat, a room full of paperwork she's supposed to sort out and the Laird whose bark is worse than his bite, she's got her work cut out for her, protecting her heart and trying to get her job done! I really enjoyed this one.

This is the first book I have read by Hannah and it won’t be the last. I was happy to receive an advance copy of this. The title and synopsis grabbed me. I love a book set in Scotland(being Scottish)Bex,an accountant gets sent to the highlands of Scotland to sort out the accounts of a friend of her boss. Fergus who owns the castle is a bit grumpy to start with but softens up. She can’t believe the state of his paperwork. Duncan is the groundskeeper and stays on a lodge in the grounds. His step sister Lorna works several jobs in the village and befriends Bex straight away. She tells her all about Duncan,he is not long out a relationship which ended acrimoniously. Lorna warned her off Duncan as she didn’t want him hurt again..There was a definite spark between Bex and Duncan very quickly,he offers to help her sort the accounts and they get close. A definite must read to see how things progress, I couldn’t put it down and was sad when it finished,it lends itself to a sequel.

The moment Bex, an accountant tasked with organizing the financial affairs at Highland Hall, steps in, she knows she’s in for a challenge. From the overwhelming piles of paperwork in Fergus’s study to the charming Duncan, the groundskeeper, it's clear she has her work cut out for her. "Kilts and Kisses at Highland Hall" by Hannah Lynn is a wonderful highland read, even though it has some gaps in the storyline. I’m hopeful that a second book is on the way. Despite its flaws, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will recommend it to my friends. Thanks to Netgalley, Hannah Lynn, and Boldwood Books for the advanced ARC copy for my honest review.

Book review of Kilts and Kisses at Highland Hall by Hannah Lynn

Have you ever dated your dream Scottish crush? Or dreamt of dating a ruggedly handsome Scotsman and wondered what it would be like? Kilts and Kisses at Highland Hall, by Hannah Lynn gives you a brilliantly cute glimpse of that dream. Here is my review of this great book.

First thoughts: I like the book cover. It definitely caught my eye with the colours and artwork. It would definitely stand out on a physical bookshelf.

Blurb: It is good and effective. It definitely got me interested, so, yes it worked like it should.

Final impressions: The book or should I say the author got my interest from the very first chapter, which as you know is no easy task. I really liked how the characters developed and formed nicely throughout this book. It felt like I was there with the main character ‘Bex’ following her along everywhere. The pace moved along very nicely, exactly how I like it. I liked the message that the author made in that sometimes in life you can’t play it safe. Nothing happens if you don’t try and give new things a go. This book was cute and relatable.
Here are my answers to some important book review questions.

1. Who was your favourite character, and why?
A. I think obviously Bex because I can relate a lot to her character, and I love her drive towards her work but also her interest in others and trying to understand those around her. She is quite selfless. I think that it’s nice for the main character to have that quality since you don’t usually get that in most books, the characters usually tend to be quite self-absorbed.
2. Did the characters feel real to you?
A. Yes, they felt very relatable. I have friends like Bex in my life, so the characters definitely felt real to me.
3. Did the story keep you guessing?
A. I guess you can that yes it did keep me guessing. I kept wondering which direction the story was going to go. I liked the ending if the book too, it was but also wasn’t what you’d expect. Well done author!
4. What was your favourite part of the book, and why?
A. My favourite part of the book was when Bex and Duncan’s friendship was blooming (about the middle of the book) and her friendships developing with Lorna and Fergus. It was cute and sweet.
5. Did the story grip you and keep you turning the pages?
A. I can definitely say that yes it did as I stayed up till about one o’clock in the morning reading as I was getting to the end of the book, and I didn’t want to put it down because I had to know how it ended!
6. Did you find it difficult to like/care about a main character, and could you work out why?
A. No, I didn’t find it difficult to like the main characters at all as they were relatable and had really nice qualities.
7. Would you recommend this book to others?
A. Yes! Absolutely! I would definitely recommend this book. If you have not read it yet or are not sure whether to read it, then do not hesitate! You’ll not regret it. 😉

2/5 is generous in my opinion, because I went from being open to indifferent to annoyed to simply mad. It's mislabelled quite miserably, and I'm sore about it.

Let's start this off with simply stating the obvious - this is not enemies-to-lovers. Could someone tell me, at which point were they ever enemies? They're strangers and however much he's a creep to me, he isn't even that in her opinion, so I don't know what's up with that label.

The description also promises that he's brooding and keeping his heart firmly locked away when HE'S LITERALLY THROWING HIMSELF AT HER EVERY TIME HE SEES HER EVEN THOUGH SHE CLEARLY SAYS 'NO, THANK YOU'. God, that pissed me off. I genuinely despise him for that. It's not romantic - it's pushy.

Also - and this is a MAJOR SPOILER - a miscommunication trope as the third act breakup? Are you kidding me? The second she left without talking to him and deleted his message, I wanted to throw my Kindle against a wall. Who does that? I don't want to know or read about people who do that. This is not your toxic ex you're trying to avoid, it's a man you've just fallen in love with, who you know loves you too. Why wouldn't you talk it out? So stupid.

The writing style is fine and I liked the side characters.

When London-based accountant Bex Barker is sent to the Scottish Highlands to organize the finances of an aging Laird, she expects to put her head down and work on his books. She doesn’t expect to find Duncan, the charming groundskeeper or to quickly fall into a friend group where she feels like she instantly belongs. But she’s only in town for a short period of time, she’s convinced Duncan is rebounding with her, and her firm has promised her a long-awaited promotion when she returns to London. So what’s a girl to do when suddenly it isn’t quite so clear where home should be?

This was a quick sweet read with a swoony MMC and a dreamy setting. I liked the side characters a lot- especially the pets. However, the book ended really abruptly. I actually kept flipping forward trying to figure out where the end was. I read an advanced copy so maybe it was a mistake. If not, it needs an addition because two big plot points weren’t resolved at all and it literally felt like the book ended in the middle of a chapter. But their relational conflict was resolved and I guess that’s what really matters in a romance.

I received this ARC via NetGalley. It releases June 30, 2025.

Great book, great friendships, Bex is a senior accountant at a firm in London, she is tasked to go to a castle in Scotland and get the accounts into shape. Once she arrives to find grumpy laird Fergus and his pack of hounds one of which attaches herself to Bex. Soon she realises the finances have not been touched for over 25 years and begins to see the gravitas of the situation. She soon makes friends eith Lorna and her pals and Duncan is very easy on the eye. Sparks fly and Bex begins to have fun in Scotland. Im hooing for another book to carry on as the end ended sharply. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really sweet story with an incredibly beautiful setting. I mean, who doesn't love a story set in a castle in Scotland.

Rebecca is an ambitious accountant in London, who gets sent to Scotland to sort out years of accounts for a grumpy lord. There she meets Duncan, his groundskeeper, and sparks start to fly. He might not be over his ex, she doesn't want to mix business and pleasure, but maybe they are perfect for each other anyway. But, she's only there for two months.

This being set in a castle in Scotland was a sure way of making me love it from the start. I would give anything to go there.

I loved Bex and Duncan, they were so cute together. Honestly, I fell in love with Duncan the moment he bought her earplugs, just because she said that every day she gets woken up too early by birds. We love a man that listens and does something about it immediately.
Fergus, her boss, was such a grump, yet such a softie. He really grew on me. I have a feeling we have more things to discover about him and his life. I have a theory about something, and I really hope that I'm right.
I also really loved the small town and all the people we met, especially Lorna and her friends. She was such a great sister to Duncan and I loved the way she immediately welcomed Bex in her friend group.
Also, Ruby and Kenna were the most adorable animal addition to this story.

I was really enjoying myself reading this story, until the conflict happened. I got so mad I literally had to stop and go touch some grass to calm down. I really hate drama being randomly thrown in. Can we stop doing that, please.
The ending was also pretty abrupt so I'm looking forward to the next book.

Overall, it was a quick and lighthearted read and I had fun reading it.

This was a really sweet, slow burn and feel good romance. I enjoyed the characters (not only the main ones) and the plot with a hint of mystery.
It made me laugh and root for the both of them, also Duncan is a worthy book boyfriend ;)

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.

This was lovely! Sweet and very romantic, most of it closed door though. I didn't like the abrupt ending but forgot it's the start of a series, so I'm guessing we get to see more of them in the next book? I would definitely continue the series. Great characters, not just the main ones. A quick one-sitting read.

This was a sweet romance that will keep you rooting for this unlikely couple. When Rebecca goes to the Scottish castle, Highland Hall, to help organize and do accounting for the seemingly grumpy Lord, she meets his devoted groundkeeper. They are very different but drawn to each other. I loved how he didn’t give up in his attempts at wooing her. The sense of community and friendships warm the story and keep the reader engrossed.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC

Bex wants a big promotion at work and she hopes this job will help her. What she doesn't expect is to find love. But will she get a happy ending, when somebody from the past shows up. With a hint of mystery, I can't wait to see where the next book will take us!

Bex has just be sent to the middle of nowhere to help a Laird set up his accounts, she has a plan grt there, do the job and get back as soon as possible.

Slight problem, the job is bigger than she thought, one of the lairds dog ls has adopted her and the Lairds ground keeper is really gorgeous, just a shame he is on the rebound.

So Bex focuses on work but the more she gets to know the ground keeper Duncan the more the attraction grows, but she knows they don't have a future don't they?

A great book, read it as fast as possible and was really sad to leave, lovely well written characters with a good strong story

At her job in London Bex is asked to go to Highland Hall in Scotland to sort out the finances for a couple of months. The book is a feel good romance which was very enjoyable with a hint of mystery to it. The characters were likeable and quirky. The landscape of Scottish Highlands beautifully highlighted. Really looking forward to more of Bexs adventures and Highland Hall as it finished quickly hopefully leaving it open for more in the series.
