This was such a sweet book. My three year old boy asked to read it over and over because it had “mama making funny noises”!

This was a sweet story, beautifully illustrated, with a lot of learning! Love it for my ocean-obsessed little patrons! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read!

This book was very informative about sea creatures, biology, and heart functions. The illustrations were adorable. There was repetition to help the little kiddos out. The last few pages of heart facts for different animals was so interesting! It was sweet how the heartbeats were affected by love. I really enjoyed this book!

*The Ocean's Heartbeat: The Story of a Jellyfish in Search of a Heart* by Dame and Dusa is a charming and fun story that celebrates curiosity and exploration. The book follows a tiny jellyfish on a quest to find the source of a mysterious "thoomp" sound. Along the way, he encounters various sea creatures and discovers a beautifully illustrated underwater world. The illustrations are simple but striking, using warm tones to create a rich and inviting ocean landscape.
The story’s ending is surprising and satisfying, revealing the true source of the sound in a playful way. The last few pages add educational content with animal facts and EKG charts for readers to compare, which adds a nice touch of learning. Overall, it’s a delightful book that combines adventure and discovery. I would score this book 4 out of 5 stars. I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley and DK, and I would like to thank the publisher for the opportunity to read this lovely book.

We love ocean animals and following jellyfish on his journey in search of the big "thoomp" was very fun and a great way to start a conversation about how unique everyone is as well as learning about hearts and how different they are in different creatures. We really liked this book!

The Ocean's Heartbeat is a charming and educational story about a curious jellyfish on a quest to find the sound of a particular heartbeat. Along her journey, she encounters various sea animals—seals, fish, octopuses, and even a pair of divers in love—learning about their heartbeats along the way. Ultimately, she discovers the heartbeat she was searching for, creating a beautiful conclusion to her adventure.
This book is not only heartwarming but also packed with fascinating facts about animals' hearts. It compares the heartbeats and heart shapes of creatures across land and sea. The information towards the end is especially engaging for young readers and makes biology feel both fun and accessible.
The illustrations are colourful and playful, with a sticker-book-like vibe that will captivate kids. It’s a perfect blend of storytelling and learning that will leave children curious about the amazing world of animals and their hearts.
The Ocean's Heartbeat is a wonderful choice for parents and educators looking to introduce kids to science creatively and engagingly. It is highly recommended for young readers who love nature and animals!
Thank you to NetGalley and DK Children for the opportunity to review this delightful book!

DK books have always been some of my favorites. I have several in my classroom, and would love to have copies of this for my class and for my daughter's collection. This story is about a jellyfish (who has no heart) searching the sea for the owner of a very big heartbeat. Along the way, he encounters several creatures, and learns a lot. This book has some neat infographics at the end, and beautiful illustrations throughout.
This book will be published on May 13, 2025. Thank you to DK and NetGalley for an advanced reader's copy. Opinions expressed are my own.

You KNOW we love a picture book that teaches us something in a low-pressure way and this was *exactly* that! Did you know an octopus has 3 hearts? Well we do now! The story is cute, although some of the pages felt a little long and repetitive while reading. The illustrations are phenomenal and my kids were absolutely engrossed in this one and I had to pause numerous times while reading so they could study the pages (especially my 8yo, trying to guess what animal was making the big Thoomp). The heart facts at the end were a great way to find out more and I love that there were still illustrations amidst the extra facts.
Highly recommend for any other families with ocean obsessed kids. ARC from NetGalley!
