The patterns in this book are very well thought-out and laid out nicely. I like the variety of animals here, with some that I haven’t seen patterns for before. I also like the intro section with pictures on how to do different stitches, etc. very helpful and I like that it also explains continuous rounds and yarn over/under - some things that crocheters of clothing don’t always know.

4.75 🌟 actually
I love this because it had a really good explanation of the basic techniques you are going to use when making the amigurumis. Also, in between the patterns of the amigurumis, you get really good tips, I particularly liked the one in the assembly section.
The only reason is not a full 5 stars it is because I would have liked to have an even number of patterns of the different difficulties, although the ones that have more are the intermediate patterns so it is a really good way to keep you improving your skills.

This has some adorable patterns that are very easy to follow! I'm an experienced crocheter and knitter, but even someone fairly new to yarn crafts should be able to whip up some critters with just a bit of effort. All of the patterns were very clearly written, and I felt like there were plenty of photos to both showcase what you can make and explain what you need to do.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book.

This book includes instructions to make 25 different cute crochet creatures, along with explanations of different crochet stitches and techniques. The book also has three different levels of difficulty, beginner, intermediate, and experienced.

I personally made Joey the Mallard Duck and Shredder the Shark and found the instructions clear and easy to follow. Provided you know the basics of crochet, I think this book is simple and easy to follow.

I've been crocheting for years and just recently gave amigurumi a try. I haven't had much luck finding books with more than a few patterns that were my skill level - until now. Amigurumi Critters is the perfect book for any level. Amy Ting has done a wonderful job with a great intro and easy to follow descriptions of the tools, techniques and abbreviations needed. The step by step instructions with full color photos make it easy to follow along. With approximately 30 patterns (4 beg, 20+ int, and 4 advanced) this is a book that I will definitely be adding to my craft shelf!

Aside from being a wonderful instructional book, Amy's patterns are adorable! A few of my favorites are Koala, Panda, Sea Otter family, Sea Star, Fox, Frog, Seal, Penguin, and the Sea Turtles.

Thank you NetGalley and Cedar Mill Press for providing an ARC in exchange for honest thoughts.

I love this book! As an avid crocheter with a side business selling amigurumi plushies, I already knew of this author on Instagram. I was excited to finally test some of her patterns, and especially loved making the grumpy chick! Her instructions were very clear and easy to follow, with amazing results. And she has a great personality online which shines through this book. I will definitely keep making these critters for years to come!

This is a wonderful guide for anyone who wants to learn amigurumi or already has some experience! The author explains everything in great detail—even which yarn to choose. The book includes beautiful illustrations and QR codes that link to YouTube tutorials!

There are three difficulty levels, with beginner-friendly projects at the start. However, the author does point out that the book is more suitable for advanced users.

All the toys are absolutely adorable—I especially loved the frog and the fox. With such detailed instructions, I honestly think it’s impossible not to learn how to crochet amigurumi!

I thought this book was super informative and the patterns were easy to follow. I didn’t make anything from the book yet but the patterns seemed straight forward. I think this is a very nice book of patterns to have. The projects included were all super adorable as well. I thought the instructions were worded well. I’d say I’m still a beginner crocheter! Thank you so much to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of the arc in return for an honest review!

"Amigurumi Critters" is an excellent instructional guide! The designs are some of the most adorable I have seen, with clear, step-by-step instructions accompanied by helpful illustrations. I really appreciated the wide variety of animals to choose from, along with the difficulty ratings for each pattern. I highly recommend this book for beginners and anyone looking to create charming, cute designs!

This book is very clear and well organized. Gives a good background on how to crochet and stitches needed to create the 25 patterns included in the book.

I really enjoy the overall layout of this book! Being a children’s book, I thought the directions were really easy to understand, there were many visuals, and it broke it down into difficulty levels! This is a perfect book for someone trying to learn crochet or looking to create new pieces. I am inspired to give it a try myself.

I liked the layout of this book a lot. I flipped through it and can’t wait to start on a few of these for little desk gifts for my friends. I would say this is a great book for beginners. The book starts off with basic instructions and stitches. The difficulty level for each critter is included with each instruction set. Additionally the stitches listed for each pattern will reference the page that shows you how to do it.

Also the pictures are so freaking adorable. I can’t wait to make Baozi the panda and the Sea Otter family!!

This book is also written in the traditional pattern way that I see fairly often. If it gets confusing I highly recommend looking up videos on reading crochet patterns. Although this book does a great job overall and could be used for multiple difficulty levels.

Thank you so much to Amy Ting and Cider Mill Press for this eARC. This is a great book for anyone wanting to make Amigurumi Critters. It is so easy to follow along with the patterns. Definitely one I'll recommend to others!

This book begins with a lot of helpful techniques and tips. There are little additional tips sprinkled throughout the book. I appreciated the great visuals. They help with understanding the instructions. There are so many cute animals that it is difficult to choose a favorite and they are sorted by 3 levels of difficulty with the easiest at the beginning.

My favorites to try first are:
Penguin
Fox
Frog
Shark
Axolotl - I was surprised this one was just medium (Intermediate) difficulty!

Aside from crochet, some additional skills are needed. For example, there is some basic stitching and needle felting. However, there is also some explanation and tips for these. I recommend buying the physical book so you can flip back and forth between the instructions and techniques easily. Some instructions also refer back to previous pages. Additionally, there is a video tutorial for the grumpy chick online (YouTube - curiouspapaya) that you can follow if you'd like to try using that visual.

Side note - In my advanced reader copy (ARC) there are several QR codes included, but I do not know what they are for. Unfortunately, I could only read the ARC on my phone so I had no way to see if they even worked. I'm guessing that they will take the reader to Ting's videos of whatever technique is being described.

I definitely recommend this book if you'd like to give amigurumi a try.

Thank you Cider Mill Press and a NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Amy Ting has created an absolutely beautiful book of Amigurumi Critters. I have been fascinated by this craft but have never actually tried anything, or even really doing any crotchet at all since I was a child, Amy’s book is about to change that. As I read this book I was enthused to try making one of the beginner level critters.

Everything is set out so nicely and explained in a very easy to understand way with photographs and QR codes to accompany stitching. I particularly liked the way the stitching was demonstrated. I have tried following a few YouTube videos previously but found them more confusing than helpful so this book is super motivating.

Patterns are grouped by difficulty level and an abbreviation of stitching terms is provided in US stitching.
I loved these little critters and the way Amynhas made them accessible to even an absolute beginner.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this gorgeous book.

I checked all over the place before requesting this book that it was truly beginner friendly. It even says “for all skill levels” in the title. So I was pretty disappointed that when I started reading it said it was best for intermediate beginners who had already made Amigurumi critters before.

But I did appreciate the thorough explanations and numerous pictures of the techniques.

Amigurumi Critters is a joyful collection that bursts with personality and heart. Amy Ting combines clear written a photographed instructions with utterly delightful designs. Each creature is so full of character it feels like it might wriggle to life the moment you finish stitching. There’s an effortless whimsy here, but also a deep attention to detail that seasoned crafters will appreciate.
My only wish? That the table of contents listed the actual designs rather than just difficulty levels - it would’ve made it easier to jump straight to a favourite or find a particular critter on the fly.
Still, whether you’re new to amigurumi or already hooked (pun absolutely intended), this book is a must have. It’s not just a pattern book - it’s a gateway to creating a menagerie of tiny magic.

I’ve been following Amy Ting, aka CuriousPapaya, on Instagram for a while now, and I was so excited to see she had a book coming out! Her patterns are super cute and creative, and I couldn’t wait to test them out.

I’ve been crocheting for almost 2 years now, starting with Amigurumi before branching out into blankets and garments. I would say I’m on the bottom end of experienced level, so I wanted to be sure to try a pattern from each of the difficulty levels to test out how clear the instructions were to follow. Luckily, I already had plenty of the yarn she used in the book on hand from previous projects (Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8). I made the mallard (beginner+), the mom and baby otter (intermediate), and the sea turtle (experienced) and they all turned out so cute! The patterns were clear for the most part, with only a couple of moments when I felt like I had to guess what to do next. There were plenty of pictures to help with tricky parts, and QR codes to YouTube tutorials if needed, also! I especially appreciated the detailed photo and diagram while assembling the turtle - it helped me keep the parts in the right spots as a worked my way around the body.

You can check out my creations on my instagram @rachlovestv (I have a crochet story highlight). I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants some really cute, easy to follow Amigurumi patterns! I wouldn’t say it’s the best book for a true beginner because you it’s helpful to know some basic crochet stitches, but if you’ve done a few projects, you should be able to follow along. Amy does have beginner video tutorials on her YouTube channel if you want to start with her projects, and she has picture tutorials in the book of all the basic techniques. I can’t wait to make more things from it.
