This was a step by step book full of adorable crochet animals. They were all so cute and my 11-year-old is super excited to try to make a few. Seemed suitable for any age or skill level of crocheting.

What an adorable book this is! My daughter and I have recently picked this up as a hobby to do together and this book is so much fun with a lot of really cute patterns that she has really enjoyed making. It is super easy to follow along to and the pictures have given us quite a laugh as we have been flipping through looking for our next fun creation!

This was well organized. I loved how it explained all the stitches and ranged in all levels of difficulty. All the pattens were super cute and can't wait to make one!

As a crocheter who hasn't done much amigurumi, I really appreciated Amy Ting's pointers at the beginning of the book, as well as her detailed instructions in each of the patterns. Each pattern gives you a difficulty level, materials list, techniques you'll need to use (which have page numbers of where to refer to in the book for direct instruction), and notes specific to the pattern. You can tell that Ting is a crocheter who puts a lot of thought into her patterns. The critters are adorable, and I'm enjoying my "Joey-The Mallard Duck" that I was able to whip up in an afternoon. This is a definite recommend for those who enjoy amigurumi or who are wanting to give it a try.

As a newer crocheter, I was nervous this book might be too advanced, but it was easier to follow than I expected. Amy Ting does a great job of breaking down the steps and stitches clearly. A lot of pattern books assume you already know the basics, but this one is much more beginner-friendly. I really appreciated that.

The patterns are straightforward, but working with small crochet hooks was definitely a learning curve for me. I had to slow down and pay close attention. But, the tone of the book felt friendly and encouraging and I felt like I had a buddy talking me through it.

If you're not super confident yet, I’d recommend starting with one of the beginner patterns. I’ll probably wait a bit before trying the more advanced ones.

While this isn’t the most groundbreaking crochet book I’ve ever seen, what sets it apart is how approachable it is for beginners. The instructions are clear, the writing is warm, and it made me feel like I could actually do it.

Oh these patterns are just adorable! I love that there are less common animals included, like the capybara and the otters.

The patterns are well-written, the pictures are very clear and the instructions are easy to follow.

Great book for both beginner and experienced crocheters!

Amigurumi Critters: 25 Imaginative Crochet Designs for All Skill Levels by Amy Ting contains well-written patters for cute amigurumi animals. This book is organized by skill level, so those who are new to crochet amigurumi can start with animals in the first section and progress.

Amy also has a clearly-written intro section that includes: Introduction letter, tools (including hook chart for US and UK), explanation of her difficulty levels, and techniques that are specific to getting well-shaped amigurumi. Photos in the techniques section are clear. All photos in the book are in color.

Note: Patterns are in US terms. Patterns start at intermediate-beginner (single crochet, increases, invisible decreases, magic circle, and basic sewing to attach pieces). Other amigurumi might classify this as beginner. Review of ARC on netgalley

This was an interesting project to review as I had to actually make something instead of just reading a book.

From the 25 imaginative crochet patterns, I chose the little Sea Turtle. The other designs that I liked were the Fox, the Mallard Duck and the cute Pug.

Many of these patterns can easily be made within one sitting for advanced crochet fans. I had a few issues with the instructions regarding the eyes and sewing it together. However, this may just be due to my level of experience and different techniques used (I’ve only been crocheting for about a year). Overall, it turned out quite good and it was fun making this little guy come to life.

Perfect for those who want an easy project between more heavy ones, or a gift for those starting out.

This was a great book with decent patterns for crochet amigurumi critters. The patterns were straight forward and accurate as far as I could tell. I made a crochet frog with the instructions and it was planned out as good as other crochet books I've used in the past. There were a lot of animals to create that you'll for sure find something you'll love.

Ebook received for free through NetGalleys Summer camp.

An adorably cute book. All the critters were adorable and I can easily see purchasing this book to take my time on. And share with my kids as they’re between grow. After much deliberation I chose to make Koa the Koala as she looked like she could hold my chopsticks and be a functional creation. A perfect stash buster… and reason to buy eyes… the last time I was into amigurumi my kids were too little for plastic eyes.

This book has some lovely patterns with clear instructions. I look forward to exploring some of them. The sloths in particular caught my eye. I will say that it is maybe a little less beginner friendly than some of the blurbers imply - the author describes it starting at an intermediate beginner level. That being said, it does provide instructions for the basics of crochet with QR codes that presumably lead to instructional videos.

I’m still a newbie when it comes to crocheting but I look forward to using this book for my future projects as a beginner. The pictures provided are super helpful and instructions are very detailed. I can’t wait to create cute little critters for myself and my friends.

Thank you so much for the eARC! :)

Amy Ting's Amigurumi Critters is a great starter book for anyone who has mastered the basics of amigurumi stitches and is ready to create some super cute creatures. This comprehensive collection includes a lot of great tips specific to amigurumi crochet, which many crocheters pick up from various tutorials, after lots of trial and error. The patterns are clear & well-written, with a lot of helpful pictures, too. This will help any crocheter get a great foundation in amigurumi creation. One thing to note - as mentioned in the introduction, the patterns start at a "beginner-intermediate" level. If you've never picked up a crochet hook, the patterns in this book may be a challenge. However, after learning the most basic stitches & maybe swatching some flat pieces, the first patterns here should be no trouble.

This is a lovely, well-structured book that is perfect for anyone who loves to crochet small animals! Amigurumi Critters brings together 23 amigurumi patterns, ranging in difficulty starting from advanced beginner/intermediate.
The introductory section is very useful. Amy Ting explains basic techniques and offers alternatives, such as how to hold the crochet hook, so that everyone can find the most comfortable method.
My favorite pattern is the otter family—so cute!
The book is sponsored by Hobbii, and the recommended yarns are Rainbow Cotton 8/8 and Friends Cotton 8/8 in 35 colors, for a total of about 42 balls.
I created a table to see if I could optimize the colors and reuse yarn from my stash. Each pattern indicates the colors used and the amount needed, which is a real bonus for those who want to avoid waste!
I would love to get to work and make at least one because it would be a shame to read a book like this without trying to create something. Let's see if I can do it!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

While I have always been known as a crafty person, crochet has always been a skill that bests me. Blankets and scarves have been the extent of my ability level and pretty colours have been used to hide any flaws. The way the Amy Ting patiently explains how to complete each step has changed this and the way I think of the craft. Now I can see the possibility of creating numerous projects as I slowly increase my knowledge through her guidance and expertise. For those like me who take that little bit longer to pick up a new skill, Amy mentions her YouTube channel which clearly and carefully takes you step by step through numerous projects and basic skills.

Amy's super cute animals are also a delight to look at, and with differing skill levels there are stunning creatures for everyone to turn their hand at. The little amigurumi critters, have super cute features giving each one its own personality to go with the super fun names created for them. The biggest challenge will be choosing which one to start with. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun and delightfully engaging book to add to their crochet collection.

Thank you to Cider Mill Press and NetGalley for the eGalley to review!

The animals in this book are super cute and I want to make all of them!!

I absolutely love the in-depth, extra helpful information about crocheting in general and the notes and tips for each pattern to make life easier for the crocheter (the most helpful information throughout the whole book: name dropping the exact brand, color, and weight of yarn used). Patterns go from easy to medium to hard difficulty progressively and techniques from previous patterns help inform the reader about what to do for later patterns, building the crocheter's skills. It's great! I immediately wanted to get a copy for our library's Crochet Club and for myself.

If you want to get into crocheting amigurumi or discovering a new style for some animals, this is an excellent book for you!

The patterns in this book are so easy to follow, great for beginners and intermediate crocheters! I also really appreciated the fact that there is a whole section dedicated to showing stitches with detailed photos. Incredibly helpful. I would love more collections!

I took up crocheting just this year, and I was looking forward to making Amigurumi toys. But even after watching multiple videos and wasting bundles of yarn, I couldn't get the hang of it. When I saw this book, I KNEW I had to pick it up. And I am so glad I did. The patterns in this book are so easy to follow. They are divided into different ability levels as well. So, I knew which pattern I could attempt as a beginner without bungling up the whole project. The instructions are perfectly clear, and there are links by which you can watch a video to get things done.

Whether you are a beginner or a pro, this book is highly recommended!

Thanks to Netgalley and Cider Mill Press for the ARC.

A really fun selection of amigurumi patterns. The patterns are easy to follow with clear instructions. I like the descriptions of the start of the different hooks and yarn to use. The patterns having clear and explained difficulty levels really helped with picking the right pattern or me as well. The photo guides demonstrating the different techniques were really helpful as well.
