Eugene Peterson’s Answering God is a beautiful and practical guide to praying with the Psalms, especially powerful for anyone who has struggled with how to pray authentically. Peterson walks through the structure and variety of the Psalms—lament, praise, anger, confession, thanksgiving—and shows how they give voice to every part of the human condition.

What I appreciated most was his insistence that prayer isn’t about self-expression or emotional venting, but about aligning our lives with the Word. His reflections are deeply theological yet accessible, rich in biblical insight without being academic. A wise and grounded companion for anyone seeking a deeper prayer life.
