What a wonderful book, gorgeous illustrations and filled with so much useful information!. I love to learn about plants and their uses, and this book is perfect for that. Its great how its split up into seasons, very handy. The book is easy to follow and I know I will reference it many, many times. Thank you for allowing me to read this book!

I think this book is a great one to have on hand. Megan is an RN and shares her knowledge in herbalism in such an interesting way. The instructions, directions, tips, etc are all very easy to read and understand. This book was also full of some very beautiful artwork throughout. I was given an a digital advanced reader copy and enjoyed what she had to share.

This book is beautifully crafted and equally as helpful. With useful, timely remedies going season by season, it guides you through a year's worth of wellness. I appreciate how clear and concise the first chapters are, helping the reader understand the supplies needed, how to get the herbs they're interested in, measurements, etc.
I'm excited to put some of these remedies into practice!
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The book has some good information. I do wish it included a bit more on the individual plants used. I am not a fan of telling people to use comfrey on open wounds though.

Great little book! I was so excited to get to read this! Thank you for approving me. It has lots of valuable information. I have been wanting to learn more about natural remedies and uses for plants I can find in my area. This was very helpful.

This is a book that I will be purchasing to pour over again and again when it releases. For all those interested in herbalism there are so many recipes and information that I soaked up in these pages. I love how the author broke it down seasonally. This has just been pre-ordered by me for sure)

This is a nice basic herbal book with a variety of recipes to make lots of remedies. Most of the recipes call for a lot of ingredients, which is often frustrating and costly for those who don’t have access to dozens of fresh herbal ingredients. I do have a wonderful supply that I’ve built up and access to quite a lot in my garden and through foraging, but many of the recipes still called for at least one or two ingredients I’d have to buy, especially ones not native to my area.
This is a great book if you want recipes more than remedies. I am an old fashioned herbalist and quite simple. I make my elderberry syrup the way I learned from the godmother of herbalism, Rosemary Gladstar — just elderberries, honey and water, for instance. I make nettle infusion quickly on the stove in the spring and keep dried nettles the rest of the year for quick teas. I put tinctures of hawthorn for my heart, motherwort for stress, elderberries for immune protection and astragalus for its adaptogenic properties in my morning keto coffee. All these things are small and easy, which is what works best for me.
There are no photos but there are illustrations of plants that are very pretty. I suspect they may be AI art as there is no illustrator listen anywhere in the book. I hope not and perhaps they are stock images purchased elsewhere. In any case they are lovely but not terribly helpful for plant identification or seeing what the remedies will look like.
All in all, this will be a good book for a new herbalist who wants to make up homemade syrups, salves, tea blends and such. The author is an established herbalist who can be trusted and she gives lots of good information and advice.
I read a temporary digital loan of this book via netgalley.

The graphics and recipes in this books are wonderful. To be able to go forging for the ingredients is such a lost art. This book brings nature and its past back to modern day homes.

First off the illustrations are beautiful!
I thought this whole book was so informative, beginning with safety and percentages and ending with the seasonal recipes. Although I was not able to make a recipe, it feels like each recipe is extremely thorough to where you can complete it without any additional looking-up for how to do something.
This is one you will want on your shelf for a lifetime of health!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared here in this review are my own.

I have recently been obsessed with herbs and natural remedies and this book just added fuel to my obsession!
First of all, the coloring, fonts & images are gorgeous! The book is broken up into an intro, an explanation to allowing the seasons to guide you. preparation & safety, and then seasonal recipes. The needed materials are pretty easy to come by, but I will say I appreciated the substitution page.
I was unable to read this in the NetGalley reader, but able to read perfectly in the NetGalley Shelf App on my phone.
Thank you to NetGalley & Cider Mill Press for the ARC!

I love the aesthetics on this one—everything from the page layout and colors to the font and illustrations. Such a gorgeous treasure.
And this book is packed with information—more thorough than other herbalism books I've come across. For example, one thing that really stood out was the formula for proper dosing based on an individual's weight. And even having the book divided into seasons, based on the season the herbs are harvested is novel and intuitive. It takes the guesswork out of figuring out when to harvest what.
Then there are the recipes. They are precise and easy to follow. And I particularly like the brief description at the top of each recipe, which gives a clear understanding of the recipe's use.
Visually appealing, inspirational, and thoroughly educational. A great reference for the home herbalists' library.

This book is an excellent addition to anyone's kitchen or herbal book collection. The recipes are easy to follow and you can find most ingredients in your own kitchen, or very easily online. I like the most of the recipes have things that are easy to get, even in small towns and rural areas. The first half of this book is very informative and was an enjoyable read while the second half gives a wide range of recipes for each season. This book is a must have!!

Book Review: Nature’s Medicine Cabinet by Meagan Visser
Rating: 4 Stars
I recently picked up Nature’s Medicine Cabinet: Seasonal Recipes and Remedies for a Year of Botanical Wellness by Meagan Visser, and it’s a refreshing dive into the world of herbal medicine. As someone interested in natural wellness, this book quickly became a handy guide to understanding how to harness the healing power of plants throughout the year.
Visser, who brings her expertise as both an herbalist and a registered nurse, breaks down the basics of herbalism in a way that’s approachable for beginners but still valuable for those more experienced. The book is organized into seasonal chapters, which I loved because it aligns perfectly with how herbs grow and can be used in real life. Each section guides you through common health concerns you might face during that time of year, offering practical recipes that you can make yourself—everything from teas and tinctures to herbal oils.
One of the aspects I found particularly useful was the emphasis on sourcing local herbs and understanding the seasonal availability of plants. I appreciated the historical tidbits sprinkled throughout, along with foundational concepts that help you feel confident about preparing your own remedies at home. There are 60 recipes in total, each accompanied by beautiful illustrations that make it easy to identify the key herbs involved.
The cover is stunning and inviting, and the layout inside is clean and easy to follow. It feels like a perfect gift for anyone who loves gardening or is curious about herbal medicine.
If I had to give one critique, it would be that sometimes the depth of information could feel a bit overwhelming for absolute beginners, but with some patience, it’s totally manageable.
Overall, Nature’s Medicine Cabinet offers a wonderful seasonal approach to building a natural medicine cabinet right from the plants growing outside your door. It encourages ditching synthetic chemicals in favor of nature’s remedies—a message I wholeheartedly support. Four stars from me for being informative, beautifully done, and genuinely inspiring for anyone interested in botanical wellness.
