Mrs. Dove-Lyon oversees a bet made between Lord Benedict Duval, Earl of Fallsgate, and Lord Harry Culver, Viscount of Everton. Money owed by Culver may double in six months if his nephew, Lord Chase Culver, Iron Lion of Barrosa, doesn't fulfill the terms in marrying Fallsgate's daughter, Amelia. From the first moment he hears her voice, Chase is enchanted and physically attracted to his new wife. Amelia is drawn to him and sees him as a husband to love and keep her safe, but an unknown enemy has become a threat to Chase in more ways than one.
A longer book in the Lyon's Den series, it moves at a slower pace, but picks up in the last half of the book.
Descriptive sex.

Chase is drawn into a marriage to fulfill a wager made by his uncle.
Amelia is a free spirit who is ignorant of the wager when she marries him.
Chase is tasked with making her into a proper woman.
He is overbearing and critical, not my favorite character at first.
Intrigue and secrets abound with some danger.
Convoluted path to a HEA.

I really enjoyed this one. Chase, known as the Iron Lion of Barrosa, is a gruff hero who thinks he can keep control of everything, but Amelia is having none of that because she doesn't want to be a typical proper lady. Their marriage starts off with secrets and high stakes thanks to a wager only known to Chase As Chase finds himself drawn to Amelia’s energy and warmth, he is torn between what he intended to do and what he now wants to do. The chemistry builds steadily, and the emotional payoff is worth the wait. Chase is changed by love, and his changing view of Amelia is described well. If you like heroes who fall hard against their better judgment, this book is a good choice for you.

I adored this story with Chase the Iron Lion of Barrosa, whose stare usually made grown men quake but has no visible effect on the unconventional Lady Amelia. Amelia is adorable and despite Chase not wanting to emulate his father by being desperately in love with his wife, it is not long before he begins to crumble.

I enjoyed this so much! Fellow lovers of classic historical romance, this is for you! It’s got the lush, descriptive prose of a traditional histrom balanced with an up-to-date emphasis on consent and respect, only a slight age gap, and plenty of open-door steamy scenes that are sure to delight!
Chase is the perfect stern brunch daddy in need of a little love and levity, and Amelia is so big-hearted and caring and has been trying so hard to live up to the impossible ideal, and just needs someone to see her and appreciate her for who she is.
It’s got a meet-cute with a hilarious misunderstanding, wild wagers, heroic yearning, sexy carriage action, adorable rescue puppies, mysterious villainy, and more!

Thank you NetGalley. The Earl has raised his daughter by himself. She has a habit of not conforming to what he feels a 'proper' young lady should comport herself. Chase has been given a Baron position for his ability in the war. The Earl wins a great deal of money at the Lyon's Den from Chase's uncle. He didn't have to pay it if Chase would marry Amelia. They are attracted to each other right away. She wants to help him when a fire has been set. She wants to help and show she can do things to help him. He soon realizes she maybe different but she is different in a good way. It is a good story with her changing her husband more than he changes her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Amelia and Chase married through an odd set of circumstances that she was not aware of. The story is well written and I definitely enjoyed the banter between the two of them. I also loved how Chase succumbed to Amelia and her happy outlook on life and those around her. A few surprises, here and there, just added to the story including Roddy. I love Mrs. Dove-Lyon and all that she brings to these stories. This is a story worth reading.

Lady Amelia Duval is independent, strong-willed and somewhat reckless. She has evaded two matches that her father approved due to her outspoken nature. All she wants is her father’s approval, but at every turn she just disappoints him.

Lord Chase Culver also known as the Iron Lion of Barrosa due to his time serving in the military for the Crown. He was made a Baron by the prince and is also his uncle’s heir. He follows the rules and does not stray from them for anything.

Lord Duval, Amelia’s father and Lord H. Culver, Chase’s uncle enter into a wager together. Chase will marry Amelia and get her to act like an acceptable lady or he will have to pay double what his uncle lost to Lord Duval. Chase knows about the wager and is not pleased about it but goes along with it. Amelia does not know about the wager but knows she has no choice but to do her father’s wishes. Will they both find love in their marriage with the odds against them?

I absolutely loved Amelia and Chase’s story!! It was a lot fun, very entertaining and so very steamy!! I really like how Chase learned to love Amelia for who she was and decided that she was perfect just as herself. The secondary character were absolutely delightful which really added to the story.

Kimberly Keyes is a new author for me and she did not disappoint. I truly enjoyed her story and thought she did a fabulous job writing Amelia and Chase’s love story!! I highly recommend this book!!
