📚A Simple Twist of Fate by April Asher
🎤Narrated by Isabelle Ruther & Teddy Hamilton
DUAL NARRATION
3.75 ⭐
Rounded up to a 4⭐because of the narration which was fantastic!
This book was such a cozy, paranormal romance with witches & a smidge of fate magic. Think Stars Hollows meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer & those are the vibes this one gives. A cozy, quirky town with magic lurking in every corner & a bakery called Sugar Tits & Treats.😂😂 It's totally like the Gilmore Girls meet magic & romance.
This book is just light & fun. The small-town quirky charm was delightful. There's a slew of characters that bring so much fun & TERRIFIC banter to the book.
The story revolves around Harlow, "Harry," whose trying to help her goddaughter, 16 year old Grace, discover her powers & identity in the world. It takes them back to her small-town where she comes face to face with her true love, Jax. Leaving years ago without any explanation after the Fated Festival, it appears Jax had been fated to her best friend. Yeeps! NO fun & she bails the heck outta there! They join forces in trying to help Grace uncover her identity and Harry & Jax find their way back to each other in the process. He becomes instrumental in helping Grace discover who she really is & what powers she possesses. Coming back to her home, Fates Haven, Colorado, truly was meant to be. Fate brings Harry & Jax back together.
This was such a nice change of pace in my reading. It was fun, light & cozy as all heck. I LOVE a great 2nd chance romance but I wish there had been a bit more push & pull, a little more angst between Harry & Jax but it didn't stop me one bit from thoroughly enjoying this one and the talent from the two narrators that perform this one.
🎧Let's talk narration: Isabelle Ruther is new to me & she was fantastic at voicing Harry. Her character is smart, sassy & witty! She delivers all the charm you want from this delightful witch. Teddy Hamilton is the man! He can deliver most any character thrown his way. He was perfect at voicing Jax, the tortured shifter who has never stopped loving Harry! BOTH of these narrators voice a variety of characters & do it flawlessly. So enjoyable to listen to. In particular, their performances of 16 year old Grace were so SPOT ON! I was giggling the whole way through.
If you love a sweet paranormal romance with Stars Hollow vibes this is most certainly right up your alley. There's witches, shifters, faes & magical creatures and a big ol' heap of fun banter that's puts the rom in this com!
Thanks to April Asher, NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for a copy of the ALC.

3.75 stars
This book has all the ingredients I usually love: small-town magic, supernatural chaos, a second-chance romance between a witch and a shifter, and a big found-family energy that leans into comfort and warmth. There are witches, fae, vampires, angels, demons, and shifters all living side by side in Fates Haven, a town where fate used to be taken very seriously — until it started misfiring.
The setup is strong, and the plot manages to juggle quite a lot without losing track of the emotional core. I especially liked how Harry returns not just for her own closure but to help her goddaughter, Grace — who steals quite a few scenes. Jaxon, the grumpy shifter Alpha, is exactly the kind of reluctant love interest you expect in a story like this, but he’s written with enough depth to still be interesting.
The narration by Isabelle Ruther and Teddy Hamilton really helped carry the story for me. Both bring the characters to life with charm, warmth, and just the right amount of swoon. That said, I do think I would have enjoyed this more if I’d read it at a different time. The story is good — the kind of magical romcom that’s light but still heartfelt — but I wasn’t quite in the mood for it when I listened, which made me a little more detached than I expected.
Best for: Readers who enjoy cozy paranormal romance, small-town settings, magical second chances, and ensemble casts with supernatural drama.

This book is like a cozy little magic spell wrapped up in small-town charm and sweet second chances. It’s the kind of story that just makes you smile and feel all warm inside.
The audiobook, narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Isabelle Ruther, is pure joy. Their voices totally bring the characters to life with so much heart, humor, and just enough swoon to keep you hooked. Listening felt like being there with all the magic and feels right there with you. And let’s be honest, I’d listen to Teddy Hamilton read the phone book.
If you want a paranormal romance that’s funny, tender, and feels like a big, cozy hug, this one’s definitely for you.
Tropes you’ll love:

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advance listening copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fun listen. I got the chance to listen to it via NetGalley.
I really liked the idea of so many supernatural and fantasy species living together and co-existing in this story. There are some prejudices between some of the species, but I don't know how much they actually believe what they said or they were just using the 'insults' to 'mask' their attraction to each other–a lot of people do that.
I can't say that there were many surprises for me; I kinda imagined what would happened and I think the cover sorta revealed something important of the plot to us. However, that doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy the story.
I felt like the ending was a little rushed and that some parts of the plot are left a bit open, but maybe there will be other books that will develop those stories... I haven't found info about that for now.
There are some spicy scenes, and they're hot, but the story doesn't revolved around them even when there's a lot of sexual tension all throughout the book.

I love a good second chance romance and it was so fun that this one was between a witch and a shifter with a pinch of fate magic! This had all the vibes of a typical small town romance but with a fun paranormal twist.
This was a cute, fun, magical romcom and such an easy listen with these amazing narrators! I really felt the chemistry between Harry and Jax as they found their way back to each other.
If you love Gilmore Girls and all the quirky characters of Stars Hollow, mixed with paranormal and fated mates, this is a must-read!!

This deserves five stars all around!!! five stars for the narration five stars for the story five stars for the plot five stars for the comedy! Both of the narrators did a phenomenal job in this. This was such a cute, cozy, funny book. I literally loved every single second of this. I need more in this world and from these characters immediately my only gripe is that it was very predictable. Thank you to NetGalley for my audio arc. This is my honest rating.

Title: A Simple Twist of Fate
Author: April Asher
Narrators: Isabelle Ruther & Teddy Hamilton
Source: Thank you author April Asher, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for this listen!
My Thoughts:
📚This was a fun and light hearted second chance romance with shifters and fate magic set in a quirky yet charming small town with all the hallmark vibes. Harry and Jax fell back together so easily and effortlessly, almost like they were simply meant to be. Topped off with a sweet slow burn, a dash heat, and magical found family.
With that said, I wish there would have been a little more tension between them bringing out the beauty of a second chance, with a little less subplot. There is a lot going on and I had a difficult time keeping up.
🎧 Isabelle and Teddy delivered all the magic. I loved their pacing and character voice which really highlighted their range. They totally elevated this one for me with their sweet and sassy voices shining through with all the heart. I enjoyed this performance!

I did part of this book on my kindle and part of it on audio and I would definitely say that the audiobook was more enjoyable for me! This is a cute second chance, fated mates romance that is quirky and sweet. I really enjoyed the small town vibes in this, and I think if you enjoy Gilmore Girls but also love fantasy and magic, this is the perfect mix! The narrators did a fantastic job with their narration, and I would definitely reccomend the audiobook. I think this is a book that I would definitely re-listen to around fall, and is a great palette cleanser in between some heavier reads!

This was a super cute, quick listen. I loved all the characters and that it was set in a small town. I can't wait for more.
Dual narration by Isabelle Ruther and Teddy Hamilton.

I got this from NetGalley falling for the title! seeing no promotions or looking up the author before hand and let me just say…
This book was so cute and whimsical!! The only way I could picture these supernaturals was thinking about Halloween town but definitely not G-rated lol. I had my “I knew it!” Moment once Harry mentioned “halloweeen town series” in passing conversation that made me happy that I pin pointed the feels of this book! especially after seeing the author had that exact vibe writing. I mean who doesn’t love Halloween town!?
I especially loved the sugartit bakery with the erectioneclair and the cinaboobies which strangely but not surprisingly I was able to picture them perfectly lol 😂
The Alpha and the witch! My ideal soulmate couple. “From the moment I laid eyes on you over that purple crayon, I knew you were mine” (although Harry says it was a blue crayon lol)😭 Childhood Sweethearts make me believe in true love 💜💙
The matching ass tattoos was the icing on the cake that whole “finding your fated” chapter at the end had me laughing so much! 😂
There was a point in the book where I even connected with the title, when Harry found out she was a fate witch and the whole story was just simple but with a twist and I didn’t feel overwhelmed with the story if that makes sense? Like it was a cozy read but kept me hooked but not anxiously hooked lol definitely zen mode.
I also love that the ending was left open to a possible series! I would love to return to Fate Haven to see the rest of the couple’s stories especially the demon and the angel!
(I do have to say that the only thing that was a bit confusing at least for me was the MMC and MFC would switch back and forth from speaking in 1st person point of view to 3rd person… I am used to books with the MMC/MFC speaking in 1st person POV so this back and forth between 1st and 3rd threw me off a lot at the beginning but I got used to it. 🤗 )
@Dreamscape_Media really went off with this audiobook! I mean c’mon Teddy freaking Hamilton!? Talk about an erectioneclair 😉
This is my first book with Isabelle Ruther and she also did such a great job! I was looking through her other narrated books to check out!
This audiobook was top tier, chef kiss, A++, with a certificate of ate and left no crumbs, 10/10 would recommend! 🥰
I loved this book so much I had to buy a signed copy of it to keep in my collection!
I’m also so happy I got to read this before Fall/Halloween this book is great at any time of the year but will definitely be on my top 10 list for Halloween/fall book recommendations! 🍁🍂🎃🧙🏻
Thank you so much to @Netgalley and @April Asher for this book! 💙 you da best of da best!
The End 💙

This was my first book by April Asher and I really enjoyed it. I was invested from the beginning. Harlow "Harry" and Jaxson get a second chance at love after a disastrous Fate Haven Finding ceremony 13 years before. When Harry returns to town she has to face the family, friends and former love she left behind. Neither Jaxson nor Harry ever really moved on so when they have to work together to help Harry's goddaughter the sparks are still flying. Their story had the right amount of angst, snark and spark. The side characters were just as loveable as the MCs.
A Simple Twist of Fate was a great intro to this author. I will explore more of her work.
I received an ALC from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was a great story and I love that Harry's aunt understands what is happening before everyone else.
I like the way the story ended, but truth be told, I am hoping there will be more books that take place in Fates Haven. I love these characters and the town and I need to know what happens with some of these characters after this book ends. I will keep my fingers crossed that there are future Fates Haven books. :)
Isabelle Ruther and Teddy Hamilton did a good job narrating this story.

ARC review of the audiobook.
I ADORED this book. I knew as soon as I started reading that I would love it (especially once I heard who the male narrator was). It is an urban fantasy rom-com set in a town that is basically Stars Hollow meets Halloweentown.
Harlow “Harry” Pierce is an 18-year-old witch who attends the Fates Haven Finding Ceremony hoping she will find out the love of her life, cougar shifter Jaxon Atwood, is her fated mate. When that’s not what happens, she runs away from Fates Haven making sure no one can find her.
Thirteen years later, Harry is living with a friend and her young half-shifter daughter, Grace, who is having trouble with her shifter abilities. So, Harry returns to Fates Haven to try to help Grace figure out how to control her shifter abilities and hopefully figure out what kind of shifter she is.
If you’re looking for a light-hearted, easy to read fantasy romance with low stakes, this book is for you. If you love these things, you’ll love this book:
✨ Witches, shifters, vampires, angels, demons, fae, and humans
✨ Second chance love
✨ Fated mates
✨ Quirky small town
✨ TEDDY FREAKING HAMILTON narrating
✨ A little spice
✨ Dual POV and narrators
✨ Found family
✨ Broody, protective MMC
Warning because I know some people don’t like this: There are a lot of pop culture references and current, “TikTok-ish” language. So if that’s not your thing, this isn’t for you.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Audio for the ARC. 🖤

If you put Gilmore Girls and the found family vibes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer into a cozy small town second chance paranormal romance, you’d get A Simple Twist of Fate. I love April Asher’s Supernatural Singles series and this feels like it fits right into that world. Not only do we have a plus-size FMC with magic, but she moves back to the small town she ran away from that is full of magical beings/creatures that is invisible to humans.
I really enjoyed Jax. I mean who wouldn’t tho. He’s a grumpy shifter who’s been hurt and left behind while Harry (Harlow) ran away for 14 years. Now that she’s back, he wants to jump her, but he’s making her work for it. And while the story is not exactly about him, he definitely was my favorite part. 😂
I could definitely get behind a series set in this town and with how it wrapped up, I’m hoping we get more books with some of the characters that were matched up at the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my gifted eALC

I had the privilege of listening to the audiobook of April Asher's A Simple Twist of Fate, courtesy of Dreamscape media. Isabelle Ruther and Teddy Hamilton are pros at their job and the reading of alternate chapters really kept the tale moving for me. Their phenomenal narration brought the characters to life especially with Gavin's accent!!!
At the crux of the tale is the second chance romance between Harry Pierce and Jaxon Atwood, former sweethearts of Fated Havens community. During the last fated mates ritual, thirteen years ago, Harry is heartbroken when the wisp leads her best friend to Jax, and she's been keeping her distance ever since.
Jax never had a say in the split, and Harry's anti-tracking spell made it impossible to find her. In her current avatar as caregiver for a sparky half-shifter teen, Grace, Harry returns to Fated Havens in order to ask Alpha Atwood for help, while her friend Cassie, and Grace's mom, continues the elusive search for her unknown one night stand and Grace's father, seeking answers.
What follows is a romantic comedy, with innuendoes, old hurts, repairing bonds and a lot of sizzling moments. Each arc is beautifully etched and the mystery of Grace's parentage is also engaging. I loved Harry and Jax, but am eager to check the ensuing stories between Gavin and Lenny and especially Elodie and Silas. Archer has crafted a wholesome community of characters who are supportive and make this tale a warm, cozy hug of a listen.
Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape media for the ARC! It was such a pleasure to enjoy!

A Simple Twist of Fate by April Asher was a delightful surprise! I honestly didn't expect to enjoy it quite as much as I did. This book perfectly blends humor with genuinely swoon-worthy romance, creating a vibe that's part Hallmark movie, a dash of Halloweentown, a pinch of Gilmore Girls, and a touch of steam.
I absolutely adored this quick read. The chemistry between Harlow "Harry" and Jaxon "Jax" is incredibly cute, and they share moments that truly make your heart flutter. The scene where Harry imagines Jax's arms as her safe haven was just the sweetest thing. Their evolving relationship is a joy to witness, and it's easy to root for them from start to finish.
I'm sincerely hoping this is just the first book in a series, not a standalone. I'm already invested and need to know what happens with the other couples!
The audiobook experience was also fantastic. Isabelle Rather and Teddy Hamilton did an exceptional job narrating, capturing all the emotions and truly bringing the characters to life. Their performance makes this a book I'll definitely be revisiting, whether by rereading or relistening.
If you're looking for a charming, funny, and heartwarming romance with a touch of magic and a great cast of characters, you absolutely need to pick up A Simple Twist of Fate.

A supernatural romp with a fun cast of creatures! Perfect read if you prefer your spooky to come with a nice helping of sass - like a grown up Halloweentown. I can’t wait to read the next in the series!
Read if you like: Small towns, Fated mates, second chance romance, competition shows, quirky characters
Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for providing me with a copy of the book.

I cannot put into words how much I loved this cozy fantasy romance. A witch and a shapeshifter along with a cute small supernatural town. Count me in. I am still hoping this is the first in a series and we get to see more of Fates Haven. Add in Harry's teenage god daughter who is half human and half shifter(literally the best character in the book) and you have a great hilarious novel.
And lets not forget that Teddy Hamilton is the male narrator, which is just a huge bonus.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape media for the opportunity to get an advance copy in exchange for a honest review,

A cute fun second chance fated-match romance gone wrong.
Will it work the second time around.
Some drama ,humor mystery about Grace ,
The whole town gets involved especially Aunt Nora.
Enjoyed listening to the narrators, they are very good.
voluntarly reviewed.

I really was looking forward to this one! The writing just felt really juvenile and I thought the audiobook might save it for me but unfortunately, it didn't. I tried to get through it multiple times and couldn't.
