I admit, I got this book to look at the art. But! I was thrilled to find the content interesting and informative.

If you in any ways shape or form care about art history you get that here. Although, it is specifically American art (as the cover advertises). There are lots of beautiful works here, and you see a clear thread running through the years to what we have today. I personally prefer and enjoy the more realistic and dreamy works consisting of landscapes. But each to their own tastes!

You also get insight into collector and critics history and practices. I however did not find these sections as interesting. Just not a subject for me.

If you are interested in American art history, collection, or critique, then I do recommend this book to you.

Giving this 3 stars. A fine read.
