A spin through the history and evolution of technology, from the handaxe to the wheel to the astrolabe and other nautical gear, to the tech of tomorrow, with nanobots and the flying car. But while the educational side of things here is pretty decent – it's nice to see the progression of things from the arc light to the LED and from the IBM to the Blackberry – the delivery system did my pip in. There is a narrative, in which four friends get up to no end of shenanigans when a museum crab shrinks them and sends them all over the place by magical elevator, that I really could not be doing with. It was disrupting, of zero interest, and made very little sense – and I guess it's common to all six books in this small series. A real disappoint, then, that this disturbs the technical writing, and the really fine look of all this is pretty much in vain. Those two stars could so easily have been doubled.

The idea of four kids on a journey through the history of technology was intriguing, but this text would be a hard sell for elementary kids because the visuals and organization can’t compete with other nonfiction texts out there. Also focus on the history of one type of technology may have also gained it more readers.

As a technology teacher working with elementary students, I really enjoyed this fun and informative e-book! Adventures in Technology is part of the Magical Museum series, where the Museum Kids explore different science topics—there are also titles like Adventures in Space and Adventures in Natural Science, which I’m now curious to check out too!
In this adventure, the diverse cast of Museum Kids stumbles upon a magical elevator that transports them through time to different key moments in tech history. Each “floor” of the elevator reveals an era—from stone tools and the wheel to televisions and cell phones. I loved how this story mixes imagination with real historical facts in a way that keeps students engaged.
Although the book is geared toward grades 3–4, it also works well as a read-aloud for younger grades. There’s a ton of great information packed into the pages, and even I learned a few new facts! The quiz, glossary, and index at the back make it teacher- and parent-friendly too.
I gave it 4 out of 5 stars only because the amount of information could be a bit much for some readers to handle alone—but with support, it’s a fantastic resource to spark curiosity about how technology has evolved.

Thank you so much for this arc!
This book is so fun and informative. I would have loved to read a book like this as a child. Not to say I didn’t love reading it as an adult, because I did! Also I must add that the illustrations are absolutely beautiful.

A book full of information about the various technologies and tools that human beings have invented over thousands of years! Ben Hubbard's text and story is engaging and doesn't seem long or too "informative." The characters take you on a journey where on each spread you land in a different era and time, to learn about the technology invented. The book is full of facts and you learn a lot on every page.
Max Rambaldi does a brilliant job of illustrating this book; that features many small and big details and keeping the art as authentic as possible from the time it shows!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Adventures in Technology is a great read for kids who are into history and love learning fun facts. The story features a diverse group of friends and magical time-traveling elevator that shrinks its passengers, guided by a mysterious old man and his quirky crab companion. From an adult perspective, it’s…. definitely a lot to take in, but for my kid, it’s fun, engaging, and pretty silly.
The illustrations are vibrant and fun, showcasing the different time periods the characters visit. Every page is filled with elements that reflect the era, making it easy for kids to immerse themselves in history. I also enjoyed the additional dialogue between the kids. It brings their personalities to life and adds a playful dynamic to the story. The quiz at the back is a great touch, reinforcing what kids learned throughout the journey.
I would have loved this book as a kid! It makes history feel exciting and interactive, blending education with adventure in a way that keeps young readers engaged. Overall, I think this book is a fun way to introduce the history of technology, showing how past inventions have shaped our current knowledge and paved the way for the future.
