As a lover of spooky season and Hoa-Hoa weather, I really enjoyed the premise of the book. A cozy haunting? Yes, please!

Unfortunately the writing itself fell flat. We meet the two main characters pretty quickly during a meet-cute moment. However, that moment felt rushed and unauthentic and this became a theme through much of the book. After about 50% in, I did find myself enjoying the book more, but still experienced difficulty with the pacing until the end of the novel. This story definitely could have benefited from being longer.

Overall, it wasn’t a terrible book. I do think the novel could have thrived with a deeper developmental edit and the addition of more description to make the story more engaging and immersive.

Ghost of a Chance is a spicy, cozy paranormal romcom with a fun premise—fake psychic meets haunted hero. Kirsty, an author who sometimes pretends to have psychic abilities, crosses paths with Jasper, who believes his late cousin’s ghost is tied to an old physics book. They team up to investigate, sparking chemistry along the way.

Told in third person from both POVs, the story leans more on emotional drama and self-doubt than paranormal action. While it was an okay read for me and not especially memorable, fans of angsty romance with a touch of spooky may really enjoy it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for the E-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The premise of this book is super cute! It was a fun paranormal romance that had me giggling and smiling along as I read. Definitely one of those books that was good, light, and easy read!

Just an enjoyable one sitting kind of read for me!

Thank you NetGalley for an eARC!

Paranormal romances are my absolute favorite so I thought I’d give this book a shot. Unfortunately I did not connect with the characters or this book. I found the main characters a bit frustrating. I did really enjoy the spooky fall vibes as well as the coziness so overall I’d rate this a solid 3 stars.

🖤Thank you NetGalley for this eARC!

I fell in love with the premise of Ghost of a Chance. Kirsten, an author who writes a series of books about a woman who can solve mysteries with the help of ghosts and who *maaaybe* has exaggerated her own paranormal abilities meets Jasper, a man who has a haunted book he would love to get rid of.

I expected romance, hilarity, some spice, some banter, and a fun mystery to solve.
I got...some of that.

There is romance. I loved the MC's meet cute and follow up miscommunication. It was cute and we got to know these people and see their chemistry very quickly. There are even some pretty decent spicy scenes sprinkled in there.

I liked the mystery. The little twists and turns were fun, even if it was a bit predictable.

The problem is, I didn't like either MC. They annoyed me throughout the entire book. There was no growth. They were petty and childish the whole time. The withholding of information, while I know it was meant to build the mystery, was just frustrating. Plus, their conversations just felt mechanical. I wanted witty banter and teasing and build of their relationship and I feel I didn't get that.

I did like the minor characters in the book and wish we got a little more of them for the comedy and fun of the story.

The sweet moment when they figure out the mystery was wonderful and almost had me tearing up. The afterward was also very cute and I'm glad we got that.

So two stars: The plot was fun. The spice was spicy. The resolution was nice.
But overall, Ghost of a Chance had so much potential that it didn't live up to.

This was a nice fun romance with a supernatural twist that was very enjoyable. I look forward to buying this when it is fully released. ANYTHING THAT can spice up the very saturated romance market it a 5 star book.

Ghost of a Chance was a fun paranormal romantic comedy and perfect for a cozy fall read!

Kirsty, the FMC, is an author who writes cozy mysteries and may have given her readers the idea that she, like her book's main character, has some psychic abilities. She gets herself into a bit of a mess when she is approached by Jasper, the MMC, and he wants her to exorcise a spirit that's been plaguing him for 5 years ever since his roommate died.

I wasn't sold on either of the main characters in this book, but I learned to tolerate them both while reading this book. I also figured out the mystery way before the reveal, which was a bit unfortunate.

Overall, I felt like this book was a fun paranormal romance with a side of mystery. This was my first book by this author, and I'd definitely like to read more by her.

Expected Publication Date: September 30th, 2025.

Thank you to NetGalley, Afterglow Books by Harlequin, and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ghost of a Chance is the perfect cozy paranormal romcom for fall. Kirsty is a total goth queen with walls around her heart, and Jasper is the cinnamon-roll news producer who just might be haunted. Their chemistry? Chef’s kiss.

Between Judge Judy-obsessed ghosts, and the witty banter, this story was equal parts heartwarming and hilarious. I loved the slow-burn romance, the quirky plot, and the emotional depth. The cover drew me in but the plot and storyline kept me strapped in!

LOVED THIS ONE!
I love Kirsty, I really relate to her. Two parts of her, one is armour and one is her true self. Loving her own space and using her goth armour to keep people at arms length. Feeling a bit called out 😅
I do think she made a bigger deal of Jasper not telling her about the story but I get that she feels like she’s still not getting the whole truth and it scares her. Giving your heart to someone is scary!

“I am really judgey and I hold onto my anger. I’m not going to pretend I can just let things go” — why is this me?!?

The story and the whole thing was just fabulous. It was not hoaky, just very real and fair. I did kinda see the twist coming but it did not take away from the story at all. If anything, it just fulfilled everything I wanted it to be.

A mystery author with "PSYCHIC ABILITIES" + a news station producer + the ghost of an old college roommate = a paranormal romance novel

In this spooky/romance novel we find a protagonist who in order to feel seen fabricated a persona that can communicate with ghost and her love interest is actually being haunted by his old college roommate who also just happens to be obsess with Jude Judy.

Amazing book loved the characters and plot. I couldn't stop reading I stayed up all night. I loved the book so much thank you for the arc.

This book was okay. I feel like it had so much potential. The idea of a poltergeist haunting the MMC was so good. I loved the idea of gothic girl meets sad boy. I think my biggest problem with this book was the grammar errors. I’m aware that as an arc we aren’t supposed to look to much into these issues but I felt that there was to many to over look.

Personally with one more round of editing I really think this book can be more than a 3 star read.
It has the spooky vibes with the ghosts, gothic vibes, and all the longing between the MMC and FMC. The FMCS need for love and comfort while also being afraid and emotionally unavailable. This book has so much potential to be a great fall read.

Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin - Romance and Afterglow Books by Harlequin for providing this book, with my honest review below.

Ghost of a Chance has a really fun concept, I just wish it had delivered on it a bit more for me. Kristy is an author of a popular series where her protagonist is a ghost whisperer who uses her connection to the other worldly to solve crime. To be clear she’s sure she herself is not a ghost whisperer, despite what the public thinks and some interesting moments. Jasper is haunted by his… physics book… which he is sure houses the ghost of his roomie and cousin. When Kristy goes on a talk show Jasper works on and the physics book ghost makes an appearance, the two get stuck in an house for a reality series that is meant to follow Kristy getting to the bottom of the haunting.

Both Kristy and Jasper were adorable and funny, though Jasper’s lack of sharing relevant details was something I was sure would end them (how frustrating and unnecessary!). The parts that didn’t quite work for me was the house setting not having been taken full advantage of and the latter part of the story which was both predictable but also not smoothly done. This book has a lot of promise and may appeal to some, certainly the beginning was great, I just wish it kept that same energy throughout.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Romance for a digital copy for review!

I really wanted to love this, but I just couldn’t. The supernatural elements are done well, but they get shoved to the side for a lackluster romance that progressed way too fast. The dialogue was bland, the plot was slow, and the fact the big mystery of the book was solved by asking one character…underwhelming.

Kirsty and Jasper themselves were cool characters though. I just don’t think they meshed well.

👻 FAKE PSYCHIC + HAUNTED NEWS PRODUCER + ONE VERY OPINIONATED GHOST = A COZY, SPOOKY ROMANCE YOU NEED THIS FALL!

Kirsty is a mystery writer (and total goth queen) who’s built her brand on pretending to talk to ghosts... until Jasper, a slightly chaotic and very charming news producer, shows up with an actual haunting. Oh, and did I mention they’ve already had a one night stand? Yeah. Awkward.

I really enjoyed this one! It’s cozy paranormal romance at its best, which I am a huge fan of. There’s witty banter, a little bit of angst, a small age gap (she’s older, love that for her), and even a solid plot twist near the end. Kirsty and Jasper’s romance was fun and sweet, though I did wish Jasper had been a tiny bit less secretive because it caused some unnecessary drama. But their chemistry worked, and I loved how they helped each other face their ghosts (literally and emotionally).

Also? The ghost roommate obsessed with Judge Judy had me cackling. The paranormal elements were quirky without being over the top, and the fall vibes were perfection.

If you want a fun, slightly spooky romance with a dash of spice, this is such a good pick for October or fall or spooky season reading.

⭐ 4/5 stars – quirky, cozy, and perfect for paranormal romance fans, or those who want to get into the spooky Halloween fall season mood.

Tropes:
✨ Fake Psychic x Haunted Love Interest
✨ Small Age Gap (older FMC)
✨ Forced Proximity/Working Together
✨ Cozy Paranormal Mystery
✨ Slow Burn With a Dash of Spice

I had high hopes for this one but it was just a romance with no banter or anything remotely funny (to me). I DNF'd at 41%.

Unfortunately this book wasn't for me...
The premise around this paranormal romance had me intrigued and was looking forward to reading about this author with a secret, however, I didn't connect with her character (I did like the MMC more).
I liked that it had dual POV in the 3rd person. And absolutely love the cover!

Although this specific title didn't work for me, it's a personal preference and will for sure work for other readers - especially those into paranormal romance (especially focused on ghosts).

“Ghost of A Chance” is a spicy, cozy paranormal romcom written by Katherine Garbera. Kirsty Henson is an author of cozy paranormal mysteries, and she sometimes pretends she has some psychic abilities which has inadvertently furthered her career as an author. On one of the last nights of her book promotion tour, she happens to meet Jasper at a concert, and there is definite chemistry but any action gets interrupted by unexplained flashing lights and other creepy effects at his apartment. Then the next morning when she is being filmed live for a morning TV show, she finds that Jasper works for the show. He also thinks he is being haunted by his deceased cousin Paul via an old physics textbook. Ultimately, the host of the talk show convinces Kirsty to try and communicate with Paul’s ghost because it would make for great ratings. Jasper has felt haunted by the book since his cousin died 5 years ago so he is hopeful that Kirsty can eradicate the ghost he feels is lingering in the book. Kirsty reluctantly agrees to try; she doesn’t believe she has real abilities but she knows that her career could be ruined if she appears to be a fraud. So Kirsty, Jasper and a few others form a team holed up in an airbnb to try to get footage of Kirsty making contact with the ghost.

The book is told in the third person, mainly from Kirsty’s point of view but also sometimes from Jasper’s point of view. Their characters are full of angst and self-doubt, constantly analyzing their feelings and how they appear to others. They have both lived without a father at a young age, and although they both have strong mothers, this early loss colors their actions and how they relate to others. Their relationship develops as they investigate the background of the book and attempt to contact the ghost. Ultimately there is a happy ending, but in my opinion, there is more drama about their feelings than there is action. This story could be satisfying for readers in their 20’s and 30’s who are figuring out who they are and how much they want to accommodate people they meet. All the characters are likable and there is nothing scary or psychologically uncomfortable in this book. This is a review from an ARC from NetGalley.

Cute and Cozy Paranormal Romance that would make a great Fall binge!

This storyline is unlike anything I've read recently and overall I really enjoyed it. The plot is filled with bit of angsty tension, a slower burn romance and a paranormal mystery that was both cozy and quirky. It's not everyday that you read about a Judge Judy obsessed haunting.

This was a new to me author and I'll definitely be recommending "Ghost of a Chance" as well as taking a look at some of her other stories!

This book had so much promise. The FMC is an author that writes cozy mysteries whose readers believe she can speak to ghosts (just like her main character). She runs into a guy who’s been lugging around a physics textbook haunted by his dead roommate. After an almost hook-up they run into each other again and Kirsty finds herself agreeing to help with crossing this ghost into the afterlife. I was sold on this description, but unfortunately this story didn’t work for me in a number of ways.

I was hoping for great banter, a haunting nosey ghost, and a budding romance. What I got was a book that read as a paranormal romcom without any actual comedy and banter that was so mechanical I couldn’t enjoy it. The MCs frustrated me the entire time. Just when I thought their arcs would lead to growth, their walls immediately shot back up and the dialogue would get childishly petty. It was hard for me to imagine them as the 25 & 30 year olds they were meant to be. Sadly I felt no emotion from any character and the big secret at the end was all too predictable and unsatisfying.
